Weekly Fallen London Questions, 07/12/2020

Here’s this week’s questions thread!

Am I imagining it or did Send a Christmas Card move from Your Lodgings to Your Social Engagements?

I’m sure you are right, that is was in the lodgings previously. It threw me for a second until I found it.

I suppose it makes more sense for it to be where it is now.

Just what is a Hillmover when it’s at home?

I realise that it is a thing for moving hills, but what is its nature? Is it alive? A machine? A really big shovel? Do the warblers lay these industrial-strength Fabergé eggs in their nests, or collect them to put there? The People demand answers!

I believe the warblers expel them from their mouths. Advanced toxicology research reveals that they’re a product of the birds’ insincerity, in the form of a whopping great bomb. The kind of bomb you use to move a hill out of the way.

I would love to use one of those in the real world because they can litterally move mountains when they are activated. Just imagine, there’s this Urchin which keeps stealing things from your house, or your house is full of rats, and you simply destroy your house to destroy the problem (Well, it doesn’t actually get destroyed, more like moved away, but still).

Moved away in several hundred small flaming chunks, I think.

Speaking of flaming chunks, is there any reason not to light one’s Rat of Glory?

This is what I am thinking. I already have a Scuttering Squad. Is there going to be a need for this later?

Something rum going on with Babbage difference engine the game runs on. I didn’t get the message about a Rat of Glory, instead I got told off for trying to use the advent calendar access code twice. Bloody cheek. But then checking my messages tab five minutes later there were TWO messages telling me I had a Rat of Glory.

Maybe it is because I’m in Parabola right now? :)

You won’t need the rat of glory later, but it does have a 10% chance of containing real rats, who will then steal your candles.

If you’re worried about the Rat of Glory you could, in theory, just sell all of your candles and then activate it - it can’t steal what you don’t have. I wouldn’t advise it at all if you’re Seeking, though, as it can and will steal Saints’ Candles.

So, I gather that there are new items available from the Incarnadine Fur Robe. As I’ve got a couple saved from a previous year, can anyone clue me in to what exactly they are, and if they’re worth it? I can always just keep the postman waiting on the step for a few more years.

Hi, don’t know if this is the place to ask, but hope so.

I have opened a stall at the Bone Market and started creating new outfits in order to trade. I need to get rid of my respectable to deal with the Bohemian Sculptress but I’m a member of the Parthenaeum. I can switch clubs, but will I have to do this every time I need to change my BDR status? And what about ships? Is there a workaround?

Does the real rat event happen when you light the Rat, or does it activate on its own?

There are items that grant negative Respectability. If you have a Parabolan Base-Camp, check out the Dome of Scales. If not, look in the Bazaar Side-Streets for the shop that wasn’t there before.

Thank you very much.

I’m in the same boat, with the added disadvantage of having no memory of what, exactly, I got. Possibly I should have taken notes. :)

Happy to help… :D

Dagforth has been holding on to last year’s Rat o’ Glory and now has two… No spontaneous activation so far but there doesn’t seem to be any definitive guarantee out there…

I’m particularly interested if there’s any real threat behind the warning on &quotOffer your Rat of Glory to someone else&quot (&quotNote: there is a tiny chance that sending it will cause a sleeper agent to activate.&quot) for a, uh, friend who is interested in a particular number of candles… The wiki has no record of such a threat materializing.
