PSA: next weekend will be the last Tears weekend until end of September.
In addition to Soft Demand (Parabolan Linen/Ivory Organza), the Rat Market also rolled Maudlin Demand, which means that you’ll also be able to sell Captivating Ballads and Parabolan Parables.
As expected, Eyeless Skulls are now available in the Rat Market.
Unexpectedly, Gant Mirrorcatch Boxes did not show up this weekend however. This means that they were retired from the regular rotation of Rat Market items.
Maybe Gant Boxes will show up during a Rat Market Eclipse? It would be thematically appropriate…
Not a big deal, anyway, since you only ever need one Gant Box to assemble a Neathoscope, and you can pick it up in the Khanate when you go there for the Violant Box.
Yes, the Rat Market helped me a lot back in the day in becoming a POSI, upgrading my accomodation, and gaining access to the Cave of the Nadir. Saved me plenty of hassle.
I hadn’t bothered to go into the Rat Market much since the revamp, is there anything worth going there for now, after having already obtained all the items on offer there?
Money, mostly. You can still sell things for a fairly notable margin, so if you’ve got three spare actions on any particular weekend it is highly worth it.
It’s not very fun or interesting anymore.
If you have 625E of whatever is in demand, you make an easy 200E, and then you forget about it for another week.
The problem, as I see it, is that there isn’t anything worth buying. So, it becomes an activity like visiting the Balmoral Castilian or picking up ‘reports’ in the Khanate. Something you do once a week to make a bit of cash, but probably not in a currency you need.
What would be worth buying, hypothetically? Except scrip-equivalents.
It provides many useful things. BiS gear, T7 and T8 items, best source for some things needed to progress main stories. And 200E/week (~10 000E / year) is not bad boost for cider / hepta / woeseller.
380 bonus echoes if you do 28 T6 items (the max before saturation keeps it from being worth more than market rate), which isn’t bad tbh. 380 for 3 actions is kindof insane actually.
Fair enough!
I used to be able to make scrip though, which was and still is where my interest lies (I’ve only just bought a worm, and the fuzzy thing needs a saddle).
Now it’s just a weekly chore. The excitement of an upcoming diamond sale is gone. I have my Noman tattoo, and no plans to try and keep a Noman till Whitsun for a few years at least, so there is nothing on sale that I want, need or don’t already have.
So now I’m sad. Weep with me.
Quietly.
Aren’t you in reduced returns territory like that? I forget where the cutoff is, but it sure seemed to be less than a third 312E sale. I just do the two (2 batches of 5 Night Whispers this time). The opportunity cost of doing it the way you are seems exorbitant.
But it’s your game, not mine. Do whatever makes you happy.
Any chance you are familiar with “John Finnemore’s Souvenir Radio Programme”? There was a great sketch where Sally, who sells seashells by the seashore, is approached by two business consultants who proceed to give advice that, while based on sound general principles, is utterly wrong for her business.
Here in the US, (where you may also be, how would I know), it’s election season. So, I have a number of people, who don’t know me, trying to tell me what my interests are. Many of those people are very, very wrong (I won’t say which).
I don’t want to do that. I just want you to enjoy your game.
And some radio comedy. These are mandatory.
That’s how I feel, too. And I second the notion of the rat market feeling like just another weekly checkbox like a gift from Balmoral, Khaganian Reports, Wellspring Water and others. I used to get excited for certain buys and sales at the rat market, but I suppose that also has to do with me progressing beyond needing anything from the rat market. I was a big proponent for letting the developers experiment with the setup of the rat market without talking the changes down from the start, but after playing the new market for some time I must say that I don’t see the rat market any closer to the desired goal.
They already did away with the “it takes an action to sell an item”, which made the rat market hugely more profitable in terms of echoes per action for selling batches of items. And freed up a bunch of weekly actions for other activities. That was extremely generous already, if you ask me—but now you want more?
Oh I certainly agree that there are valid criticisms to many other aspects of the revised RM. But purely in terms of the action economy for getting profit from turning in items, it seems wild to me to complain that hundreds of Echoes of potential weekly profit for three actions isn’t good enough, especially compared to the old system.
The Rat Market used to consume a huge number of actions, literally hundreds on some weeks. Now it’s a flat rate of three actions per week. Less profit, but waaay less actions.
So! I do not have the constitution for math(eww)nor the energy to read through the entire discussion about the updates to the bone and rat market-so, I will kindly ask you to narrow this down to a single question:
How hard would it be for me, an about mid-game, post evolution, start-of-railway player to make 100+ echos through rat-mart, and how much calculation and epa measurements would I have to do for it?
