Summary of loose ends and unresolved stories

Recently on the Discord, Hannah mentioned that De Gustibus will probably return eventually, so that might be worth adding.

What does &quotits own map&quot mean, exactly?

Like how London has a map, with locations such as Watchmaker’s Hill and the Flit. As opposed to how the Zee has many locations but does not have a map, and uses stories and actions to navigate around.

I would also point out that this year’s Hallowmas story on Arbor included

Both settings, for extra points. However, statements like this are never really going to go away unless Failbetter comes and says &quotWe’ve completed everything; there is nothing more to learn about Parabola&quot and makes us all weep. Thus, even when an item is on the list you can’t necessarily take that to mean that nothing has been done about it.

Does anyone know the source for that detail?

My source is probably the post from genesis in the following forum thread:

http://community.failbettergames.com/topic24215-parabolan-base-camp.aspx

That claims to have gotten the fact from an AMA, I assume on Reddit. Closest I can find is the following reply from Alexis, which makes a weaker claim about mapping Parabola, but without mechanical details:

https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/4fi67d/were_failbetter_games_makers_of_sunless_sea_and/d291ld5

So, I dunno. Wouldn’t the first time this community (or any other game community) reads too much detail into a dev post and then those imputed details become accepted as canon. At least in Fallen London it’s appropriate to the setting!

Alexis is the source for the &quotmap of Parabola&quot and further content on the Elder Continent. This was from around the time that he was stepping down in responsibilities and handing the keys over to Chris Gardiner for directing the narrative of Fallen London, and so it’s very old information (nearly 5 years by this point). This was after Sunless Sea first entered development.

The source is from [REDACTED], the other thing we don’t speak of. The similar wording implies to me that this is genesis’s primary source.

Hm. I’m asking because I suspect

that the supposed Parabola map would be part of the [REDACTED] you cite.

I don’t see anything suggesting such a restriction there, personally… It’s all about the main game content.

The link that PSGarak posted is a completely unredacted confirmation. I don’t agree that it doesn’t contain any mechanical details. &quotYou might eventually see a map of Parabola in the game.&quot is pretty clear to me. Yes, it’s slightly weaker in that it only says &quotmight&quot but certainly combined with the redacted comment, I think it’s pretty clear.

I’ll add De Gustibus. It was already implicitly there under the &quotParticular day in the neath&quot content but I agree that, especially with hannah’s comment, it’s worth making it explicit.

Can anyone in London (I am at Zee) confirm that we have a new Heist level? Should I add it, or give FBG some leeway to actually implement it first before considering it a &quotloose end&quot?

It’s here.

I am also going to add the whole confusing thing abut the Implacable Detective and the key in the well.

ETA: And Notability gifts are back too, now!

A new Exceptional Story comes out tomorrow, and it’s part of a new Season. I would guess the new Heist is part of that content.

My point is that I suspect the references to a map of Parabola are really references to expanding Enigma, rather than new normal content. Mostly because of the panoptic mirror-map, plus some other assorted cartography/Enigma ties.

Considering we were told the Envoy’s story would continue, I doubt Failbetter would restrict the rest of the story to Fate-locked content.

This option’s back. Yippee!

There’s no place to start it, even with an &quotImpossible!&quot lock-out. But, if you select an existing Heist, you can see the list of available Heists by looking at possible values of the &quotPlanning a Heist&quot that unlock the storylet. That list has a new value.

When will the Ambitions finish, any idea?

Damn

Probably long after I’ve finished Seeking :D

Arise from your grave, thread.

I’m updating the list, more info is needed.

  • A rework of the unusual Connected qualities - Widow, Duchess, University and Masters.

  • Closest to: The Masters, The Duchess, The University

  • Intimidating… - may be removed

  • Growing… - just a single &quotturnip&quot, really?

  • Third season of Knife and Candle - apparently, won’t happen

  • Tier 5 Professions - removed, erased and banned from existence with extreme prejudice

  • Sultan’s Dream - probably won’t ever resurface

  • An Expedition: Seeking an Infernal Picnic

  • Engaged in a Case: the Other Wax-Work, the Copper Thumb, the Early Grave, the Man with the Mirrors, the Crooked Bridge

  • Your Quarry: A Keeper-Moth and Something from the Roof (Contracts at the Department of menace eradication.)

  • Sixth and Seventh Coils in the Labyrinth of Tigers

  • Locked Unterzee destinations:
    – The Pillars - apparently, soon-ish, since Irem is hinted
    – The East

  • The “Follow cold trails and the suspicion of footprints” option in “Hunting across London”

  • The “There’s definitely something in it” option on “A Theosophistical Decision” (to unlock the continuation of the Theosophistical Society storyline)

  • Keys to Your Future (A Bringer of Death, Empire’s Kingmaker, Hellfarer, Fist of the Bazaar) - apparently, dropped

  • Caught in the Gear’s Teeth (part of Playing with Broken Toys storyline) - orphaned and forgotten, since Daughter’s storyline is concluded

  • Dreams - ending/second tier of Chess, Water, Someone There

  • The Blind Pianist and the Sallow Spirifer - completely forgotten

  • The Wars of Illusion - possibly superseded by Parabolan Wars, with loose ends declared not loose

  • Leather Hearts (extracted from Jack, somehow linked to the Revolutionaries) - most likely noone cares and never cared

  • The Interpreter of Dreams (Consultations for non-Water and non-Strategy dreams missing)

  • The Numismatrix - un-fleshed still while presented to be important

  • The Implacable Detective and whatever happened with the key in the well on Hunter’s Keep - looks like a forced tie-in to add at least some depth to Detective’s campaign

  • The nature of the maid and the thing at the bottom of the well on Hunter’s Keep - ma-aybe in Zeefarer

  • The Ambassador - hinted to be important, but the storyline is a stub, and most likely what plans existed were never written down

  • False-summer - referenced, but not encountered

  • [strike]The lack of foxes in London (in-game, as the Mysteries answer claims there is in-game basis for the lore)[/strike] Mentioned in Fate Sackmas story.

  • Drudgewick - ???

  • A Nocturnal Visitor to the Palace Cellars - just cuts off

  • Metempsychosis - currently the very long term plans

That was part of Spite, not Veilgarden. It’s now a sub-location near Spite, named &quotThe Crowds of Spite.&quot

Arguably the conclusion of this storyline is the premium story The Gift. But there’s no explicit connection. I wouldn’t be opposed if they just added a pointer from Palace Cellars to The Gift and called it a day.

You might add Metampsychosis to the list. It definitely hasn’t been dropped, but it’s been pushed back a few times.

One of the the fate-locked Mr Sacks options features a group of rats who are indignant that there is a fox in London, in violation of the agreement between the rats and the Masters. And now I’ve told you all the lore-relevant parts of that story. So it is in the game, at least a little bit.

(I don’t have time to go hunting for it now, but the echoes from that story are in my journal for the time of the most recent Sacksmass)
