Well, my two-armed, insectoid, phenomenally rubbery, highly implausible skeleton just netted me 256 Final Breaths from the Tentacled Entrepreneur. Second time round. Even it didn’t believe I had the real thing when I first tried.
No idea what to do with the Breaths, but hopefully they’ll come in useful one day. I expect Failbetter have some plan planned.
Alright, I don’t know if I’m doing anything wrong, but for me both the Tentacled Servant and Rubbery Collector are consistently giving levels of magnitude less Nightsoil than the wiki (including the Skeleton guide) says it should.
According to wiki and the comments under the Tentacled Servant, a Skeleton with Amalgamy should give full Echo Value in Nightsoil of the Bazaar. For me, however, the reward is consistently (Value in Pennies/50 + 5), same as with Hinterland Scrips from the Gothic Author. I did this a week ago, with 10400 Value skeleton getting 213 Nightsoil from the Rubbery Collector. Today, for a Value of 5600 the Collector gave me 117 Nightsoil. And the Tentacled Servant then provided 237 Nightsoil for 11600 Skeleton Value. (I have screenshots for all of these instances, in case someone wishes to see.) The Amalgamy part works as it should according to the wiki, and all the skill checks were 100% successful.
Has anyone seen the same, or can anyone confirm that they consistently get as much payment as wiki says? Perhaps the problem lies in offering Humanoids to the Rubbery fellows? (But I’m almost sure the first time I actually sold a Bird).
Anyway, this actually seems to correspond with the rate comparative with Hinterland Scrips that, as seen when selling Viric garments to the Author/Collector, respectively. And the estimated value when selling Pulsating Amber to the Tentacled Servant. So perhaps the higher rates were an early bug that was since removed?
I suspect the earlier rates of 1 pence each was an error, and the true, original intended value is 50 pence each.
The Bone Market economy is mostly self-consistent. E.g. the Saber-Toothed Skull: It can be acquired for 125 Hinterland Scrip (which takes a Skeleton Value of 62.5 echoes to obtain), and adds 62.5 echos of value to your Skeleton. Benefits for secondary attributes like Amalgamy are consistently valued at 2.5 echoes. The "free" sources of items are usually worth around 2.5 echoes per action.
Nightsoil of the Bazaar was not consistent at 1 per pence. A Pulsating Amber, worth 60-ish echoes at the Bazaar, gives 120-ish Nightsoil. Trading a volume of poetry gives 7 soil for an action. These trades put a sensible value of Nightsoil around 50 pence each; valuing them at 1 each makes these trades nonsensical.
Long story short, I think the old value was a bug that got fixed.
did anybody else notice that the bone market now offers one of the best money grinds?
get a human ribcage, start assembling a skeleton, take it apart, boom ribcage and a whooping 625 whispered secrets for what can end up being an almost 3.10 epa including the favors and the actions needed to get into the bone market
Thanks FB, now we know what a truly dickish move is.
Oh, no wait, we already know it: it was placing a third tier Renown item there.
Yes, bunch of dicks. Wimpy dicks, who cannot even admit it and haphazardly rewrite fluff to hide controversial themes, in futile attempt to look better.
Raise cap higher than 5, like with most other new skills. edited by Aro Saren on 6/13/2020
That is true. I included the outcome for one of the Rubbery dudes after I got 5000+ Nightsoil from a sale.
This has since been readjusted - but not before a few of my characters profited from the design oversight! Heh-heh.
I’m checking out Bullbone island since in its description it talks about being covered in bones and that not all of them are bull bones. Nothing so far.
And nothing in the end. I guess the island of bone doesn’t give out bones. edited by Winthropx on 6/5/2020
Following up on this. According to the Wiki, now there are new bones on Bullbone Island. The item was on the Wiki as of Wednesday, but the connection to the island was only added earlier today.
Either our timing was very unfortunate, or there’s a possibility that this very thread is what made FBG realize that maybe there should be bones on Bone Island. In either case, we might need to arrange another sweep of the islands.
I have one character on Corpsecage Island, with two more on the way. Nothing thus far.
UPDATE: I have three characters, each made a cycle on Corpsecage and took the options that imply digging up stuff. Nothing.
UPDATE 2: I have done a total of 4 cycles with different characters and selected different options in the hope of rolling different outcomes. Nothing new on Corpsecage island. edited by Rostygold on 6/15/2020

This seems a rather silly thing to complain about since the item in question is mechanically pretty much useless due to overlap with the unexploded mine you get from docks renown.
Is it a rare or an alternative success? Can you roughly estimate the odds of getting the Horned Skull?

I was thinking about it as well. It is slightly worse than lab experiments with Fate-upgraded lab and Ambition-specific Specialists, but might have the highest non-Fated EPA at the moment (except Silk-Tread expedition using exclusively Docks favours, which is card-based and inconsistent).
I wonder how this works with the Leviathan Frame. Has anyone tried breaking it down? Is it even possible? And if so, do you retain the Frame or get some other form of compensation? It can’t possibly work the same as with Human and Thorny Ribcages, as that would give almost 80 EPA and bankrupt all economy. Unfortunately, I’m not really in the place to experiment with this at the moment.
Well, it was worth a shot. Edit: Two Successes and a Failure with just a Frame. edited by elderfleur on 6/15/2020
I figured that the solution would be to limit the returns on that one. Kind of a pity that it gives nothing at all instead of a small, fixed sum, but at least you didn’t lose your Frame. Thank you for the info! :)

I did two trips to Bullbone island and got two skulls (one each), so small sample size but it seems to be reasonably rare.
I have had multiple characters do six cycles already. It’s about one in four attempts. Every cycle only gives five attempts though, and there’s no way to force an early exit. edited by Rostygold on 6/16/2020
