Raise the Darkness to 7 (candles at the stove), the diffuculty will spike dramatically.
You can also darken the environs by indulging in drowning play at the hot springs.
I love the text on the card that lets you interact with the goat demons. They’re really cute!
Just to be clear: you have to finish the storyline with Deviless to advance the stones, or there is an independent hidden puzzle you can clear before that?
My Cold Comfort is 3, Steward skill is 3, and I’ve figured out how to get a specific Number and play cards with it. If the puzzle is about the correct Number regardless of Deviless - just confirm.
Curse my excellent luck! I’ve been trying to fail one of those digging checks for a while now and haven’t seen the first failure despite a high darkness.
Max the Darkness, take the talkative rat, it’ll be around 32%. Beyond that - well, luck.
Does anyone know if we are supposed to play cards with the steward over and over again? The card text is confusing. The best I can tell is that the Steward may be able to raise "Steward of the Discordance" beyond 3. Does anyone know if this is correct? I am not sure what I am supposed to be doing.
You’ll need to cash in Trust several times. If you talk with her and it doesn’t advance anything - go and advance Deviless’ storyline until she moves to read the stones.
On the off-chance anyone’s made a breakthrough, does anyone know what to do after she moves to read the stones? Should you keep trying to move them around, or study the Discordance with the Steward, or something else?
Go to the Steward, you’ll see new option.
You mean to study the Discordance, the one with a 20% check? I’ve done that a couple times, should I do it a couple more?
Hah, the option to use the Übergoat statue requires you to still have an Übergoat. Can’t have him pose for the statue then kick him off the board like you did with the poor Bishop!
Edit: I mean metaphorically kick him off the board, by cashing him in for a Heptagoat or selling him to buy more mundane items. I didn’t mean for that to read like he was now a possible board member

Oh, then you’re at the point further than I thought. Disregard my advice.
It was told that the Hurlers contain a puzzle - maybe you should rearrange them properly?
A-and I’m taking a break from the Hurlers to attend certain other grinds.

Damn. There is a puzzle, yes. A seemingly random set of checks (50% apiece) for rearranging the Hurler stones by counting them. Damned if I know how to solve it, I thought the 333 whispered hints were, well, a hint but I’ve tried miscounting each set of stones by 3 and that hasn’t seemed to have done the trick even if I miscounted with a “You were fortunate!” result. Hence why I thought maybe I needed to up my Steward of Discordance, given the Steward said something about the stones reflecting my Discordance-prone mind or…something.
If you’re not making progress talking to the Steward, then go pick up loose ends elsewhere. I had to go back to the Frozen Lake two or three times in-between talking to her. There’s nothing there of prominent interest.
The Stove just turns alive and wanders off.
There does not seem to be any way to reduce Stoking the Stove.

Mine never came home. And after everything I did for it, feeding it all those candles and plaques. Maybe it’s out petting goat demons.
I don’t think I’ve seen her move to read the stones, and counting the stones has me completely baffled. Surely there’s a simple thing I’m missing.

Wow, I…I am suddenly obscenely grateful I didn’t Stoke the Stove very hard before deciding to double down on darkness for the sake of Discordance advancement
I will force my stove to come home to keep my new imp company. I’m really enjoying the story in this one.
And I absolutely did not witness a terrible game of Hurlers between teams one and two composed of goat-demons. It certainly did not take place within the Adulterine Castle accessible when you open your eyes on the frozen lake. I absolutely did not gamble on who would lose, since gambling is not allowed. Lastly, I most definitely did not cheat in the sporting match that did not happen.
I just don’t understand why, when I stopped the Disembarked Deviless from reading the stones that it did not give me the +1 Steward of the Discordance that it promised me. I wonder if this is some error or I am just confused.

This wasn’t the solution to my confusion about counting the stones, and I’m very grateful and relieved to have solved an unsolvable puzzle, thanks! Also I believe the +1 Steward of the Discordance is attached to the Imp itself, which becomes a companion.
I certainly don’t want to find out the echo of what you get if you help the Deviless read the stones. I can’t imagine it would be as valuable as further mastery of the language that doesn’t exist.
