Hallowmas 1898

Nah, it’s the same bear, just kinda stumbled into the Treachery of Clocks and wandered out several times instead of one, because, you know, honey makes you mazed.

Am I missing something obvious? I’ve been lingering with Bohemian comrades in the Butterfly Pavilion, but though it says when I reach a certain nightmares the Fool’s Apostate will appear. I’ve ducked in and out of the masque a few times in case I’m missing something - how/when/where does the Fool arrive?

Thanks!

Huh. I got to 7, but maybe not quite close enough to 8. I’ll keep trying!

Ah, figured it out! I did have 7 nightmares, but was still carrying that bejeweled walking stick. Cheers. :)

I see upthread that we’ve discussed if we can re-acquire various companions if we upgrade them in the Hallowmas festival.

But I haven’t seen any discussion of the Rubbery Bellringer. I don’t want to lose him, since I’m collecting all the references to music that I can find. But I kind of want the Bellringer as an upgrade to be on my railway board as well. Is there any way to re-acquire the Bellringer if we upgrade him?

Edit to say: because the Bellringer is a reknown item, I’m not sure if it will show up again for those who have reknown 25.

The only requirements for getting a Rubbery Bellringer is 25 Renown, 5 Favours, and not already having a Rubbery Bellringer, so you should be find getting another if you upgrade your first one!

Honestly, I am so enthused with this hunt, but am so very lost, as this is my first and I’m still trying to figure things out… I think I have like 4 companions - 2 are tracklayers with each different - tough and nocturnal that I believe I used confessions to ‘level up’, plus a sedulous cryptanalyst and a rubbery feline that I haven’t done anything or don’t know what to do with them. I tried each of the different locations and got the level to 7 before being kicked out and interacting with the Fool, and have chosen to go with the Moth Mask because of my Fae nature, but I’m ever so confused…even more so than usual, it seems. Any help for the confused and befuddled during this thinning of the veil? ~Kaerlyss

What can you tell us about the properties of your upgraded tracklayers?

Can confirm that you can just go back and grab another Bellringer after you upgrade him. I changed mine into a Rubbery Herald last year and was able to grab another Bellringer just fine afterwards.

Intriguing news - because the game takes into account only the base menace, you can increase your Spirit of Hallowmass gain by equipping menace-reducing gear, saving yourself the actions needed to exit/enter a party and the favor cost of each entrance.

Menace levels 8 and 9 get 6 Spirit each.

I noticed that as well. I’m not sure it makes any difference, though. I turned in 7 Nightmares for 28 Spirit, and then 10 Nightmares for… also 28 spirit.

Mildly infuriating, but the Moot no longer gives you -12 Dreaded so if you want to benifit from that…you have to make another Warbler.

So are those party-locations actually good for accumuluating menace? Most of the time I only get one CP.

I just turned in 9 nightmares and got 40 spirit. I guess there’s some slight randomization.

I found a link over on the reddit while I was working out how best to grind SoH here [https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/dni3r6/psa_optimal_method_of_grinding_spirit_of/]

Relevant information here:
4 levels of menace (10 cp) -> 10 spirits -> 3.33 spirits per action
5 levels of menace (15 cp) -> 16 spirits -> 4 spirits per action
6 levels of menace (21 cp) -> 22 spirits -> 4.44 spirits per action
7 levels of menace (28 cp) -> 28 spirits -> 4.67 spirits per action
8 levels of menace (36 cp) -> 34 spirits -> 4.86 spirits per action
9 levels of menace (45 cp) -> 40 spirits -> 4.44 spirits per action

On another note, does anyone know if Spirit of Hallowmas rolls over to next year? I know it didn’t in the past version of Hallowmas, but wondered if that had changed with the new one!
So are those party-locations actually good for accumuluating menace? Most of the time I only get one CP.
The mask options are good. It probably takes me an average of around 7 actions at the party to hit 7 menace. Plus 2 extra actions for entering and leaving, and 1 more action if a favor was used to get in. So do the math from there.

Does anyone have a rough idea of how many people you need to transform/how many times you need to distribute your Menace to the Fool to max out Spirit of Hallowmass? I dun upgraded a tracklayer, a bear and a Fingerking and I’ve cracked out one Suspicion 7 for him so far, just trying to get an idea of how much grinding to do here.

A lot a lot. If it’s the same as last year (which it seems to be), you need 2500 spirit for the top rank. I’ve upgraded a couple of companions and turned in menaces maybe ten or a dozen times and I’m sitting on 556 now.
