Tried running Void Ab Initio to eight with Running from Death at seven. Nothing.
Looks like we need to raise all menaces to 7 and Cheat Death on the pinned storylet. Cruel.
Or wait until enough people sacrifice themselves to get puzzle skip.
I’m probably way off even attempting this, but one possible anagram for “Er don in lond eness, un lart polraven.” Is “Unravel riddle nonsense, plan or not” and that at least describes my approach :D

If this is not necessary for progressing the event but is only needed for the item, it’s far from certain if a puzzle skip will even be coming up. Though if the old trick with menace-reducing social actions still works, you may at least be able to avoid going to the menace zones, no?
At any rate, hope that the finale of the event will allow us to help the prisoners. I’ve ever been a staunch ally and friend of Southwark as well as the reactionary and monarchist devil factions, so I’d relish giving Hell a proper what-for at least this once…

I did it hard way! Also skip is available now. Pretty sure it is necessary for the progress of the festival.

I think the skip locks you out of getting a unique vanity quality. Which means of course I’m doubling down on doing it the hard way.

They need to be close enough to 8 that the Cheat Death will take them over the edge - and then you supposedly have to go through all 3 menace zones afterwards! I’m still questioning if I’m really insane enough to do this.

You don’t have to go to any menace zones, but it needs tight coordination with another player (or an alt account). If you use an alt account, you need to log in to it in a different browser, so that you can be logged in to both accounts at the same time.
You need to follow exactly this order of actions:
- On main account, raise all menaces to at least 3.
- On main account, choose “dupe your friend” actions 2-3 times each for Scandal and Suspicion. Your alt now should have those 4-6 messages pending. (Make sure you haven’t Betrayed your alt too much this week and it can actually use all of those messages! Ideally it should have A Victim of Frequent Betrayals not higher than 2, but it’s a hidden quality, so don’t be fooled if you don’t see it in your qualities list.)
- On alt account, choose “help your friend with Nightmares” action 1-2 times. Your main account should now have 1-2 messages pending.
- On main account, raise Nightmares/Scandal/Suspicion to as close to 8 as possible (level 7 with 6CP should be ideal).
- On main account, choose “Cheat Death” and do not click “Onwards” button or refresh the page.
- On alt account, respond to all the pending social actions that will reduce your main account’s Scandal and Suspicion. This should be happening while your main account still haven’t clicked “Onwards”.
- On your main account, still without clicking “Onwards”, respond to the social actions that will reduce your Nightmares.
- If you did everything correctly, you should be able to avoid going to ALL menace areas.
I’m not 100% certain about Nightmares, but almost certainly they will be avoided too.
If you did steps 1-5, but on step 5 accidentally hit “Onwards” and got sent to the Scandal area:
- To avoid the Suspicion area, you can do step 6.
- To avoid the Nightmares area, you can do step 7.
If you never did steps 2 or 3 and clicked “Cheat Death”, then you won’t be able to avoid the Scandal area, but you can still avoid Suspicion and Nightmares, if you bring those Menaces below 8 while in Tomb-Colonies:
- Choose “An investment in soaps” option on “Among the dead” card to get -1CP Nightmares.
- Send “An invitation to Beatrice’s Tea Shop” from your alt account and choose “The Sunlit Special” for -2CP Nightmares or “The Khaganian White” for -2 CP Suspicion. It’s the only social action that can be sent when both accounts are in different settings (one in London, one in Tomb-Colonies). This method however requires both accounts to have a Free Evening available (you get 5 every week), so it’s not reliable.

Even if you didn’t use Social Actions, you don’t need to play through all three menace areas.
While you are in the Tomb Colonies, you can draw and play a couple of cards that can reduce your Nightmares below 8, so you won’t go to the Royal Beth/Mirror Marches when you return to London.
You’ll still be sent back to New Newgate when you disembark, however…
