Ah, the candied door wasn’t listed as a prerequisite when I posted that, must have just been added. That’ll be it then, cheers.
Re. the elephant thing – it only became playable for me (after being greyed out) once I winnowed my rats down to the required number.
I also confess to absolute embarrassment that it took me so long to realise that hunting specific types of law was what opened up particular areas, e.g. the Candled Door.
Yeah nah I had the right elephant number all along but at that time the wiki didn’t say anything about needing to finish the hide and seek first, that’s what had me confused. Got the elephant now.
Next part is out, talk to Milton again.
From the “Consider stones unturned and angles unworked” in the "“fallen london, where something is very, very wrong” storylet:
“A piece of equipment can still be unlocked. Look to your friends at the Brass Embassy.”
From what I’ve seen looking at people’s comments, it kills you with nothing to show for it. There is clearly more about this than immediately apparent.
It seems like something you have to do more than once - but I wonder if you HAVE to die to unlock the next step, or if a sensible FLPC can keep doing whatever it is that’s the next step on the path.
Is there anything new with the Boatman, after you die here?
I didn’t even get the opportunity, so there is clearly more even before it becomes immediately apparent.
… but a thought occurs, to maximize neathproofed before climbing in.
ETA:
it showed up next time, after I talked to Milton again (at Dante’s).
Neathproofed 10 didn’t do anything.
Horsehead amulet kicked in so I didn’t get to see if the boatman has anything new.
“Sometimes, you have to just keep feeding the furnaces, and see what falls out,” Milton said.
Nothing about climbing in, there. Unless he meant feeding the furnaces with ourselves.
Has the Urchin reward issue been solved yet? I’ll wait a bit before talking to Milton.
Maybe this is what Running from Death is for? If you have it at a certain value, maybe?
Cross-post from Patch Notes; I have some support tickets left to work through but related tickets should all get a reply soon!
Yeah, this must be what the Cheat Death option is for.
Thank you, I can confirm that I have received the Urchin reward.
Although it’s funny that the five Sightings I made remain on my profile page, I believe those who turned in the clues properly had them removed?
They’ll get cleaned up somewhere else down the line, I wouldn’t get too attached to them!
So are we just stuck with 12,345 rats? Or are they likely to come in hand again later?
It’s not like you can’t do with them what you could before. Sell them, turn them in for a reward and all the other uses.
A shame, I was very close to 100k rats. Most of them were gained from my first profession: a Rat Catcher.
Maybe I’ll make it my goal to reach 100k rats again eventually.
On the bright side, I have a lot of money now. Some stuff are only available at the Bazaar e.g. Rookery Passwords.
I didn’t see anything new in the available storylets, nor in the three cards I could draw there with my depleted hand. I expect that progressing in this may require either repetition, or a specific value of a quality such as Cheating the death, as others have noted.
I’ll keep up killing myself for science once I have enough actions again, having the Cider on hand makes it very much more convenient.
