Zero Summer Discussion Thread

quick typo catch, the opening text for the hallowed ground 18 card says, “You’ve seen here there in the party crowd all night:” Presumambly this is meant to be her.

Edit: Also on the “an Evening under Lamplight” card: “The sky is overcast by the air is mild” perhaps, that should have been a but?

Note to closed beta testers: we goofed and didn’t remove Key of Dreams from a crucial Storylet at the beginning of Day 1/Evening. That Storylet should fire the next time you log in. If you’ve moved to Sunrise House and do NOT have the An Evening Under Lamplight Quality, please let me know.

this likely belongs here

if you chose to say hello on the ‘Company for the Governor’s Aide’ card you are told ‘Company for the Governor’s Aide has increased to [level]!’

I assume it shouldn’t be saying level?

It should be displaying your Quality level. I’ve got an email out to Support already. Thanks!

Found an interesting image bug. I have no Idea what caused this but it definitely doesn’t look right.

We’re having the same image glitch. I’d assumed it was a platform issue, but I guess I haven’t checked any other games. Can someone confirn whether this is a platform thing or a ZS thing?

well, i have the same image glitch, including that the top banner seems like a white/grayish line.

Adittionally, i assume that ‘the last dance’ card is supposed to up our quality to 6? I’ve had 2 or 3 ‘last’ dances with each lady now chuckles wryly admittedly its the only card i seem to have left(as its the only card showing each time i want new cards)

edited to add: are they supposed to give the same item?

Fixed, and yes.

[quote=Gordon Levine]DIRECTED FEEDBACK FOR DAY 1/AFTERNOON
(although as always we’re happy to hear whatever feedback you have in whatever way you want to give it!)

1.) How do you like our current Opportunity card setup? Are the ‘grind’ cards appearing enough? Are the Ally cards showing up too much? Have you drawn Absolom the Tinker a lot, or not very much at all?

2.) We would like specific feedback on the subplots you picked: what you liked and didn’t like about their structure, their plot, the quality of prose, their mechanics – whatever you’d like to tell us.

3.) Who are your current favorite characters? (Or other setting elements?)

4.) Once you’re done playing with Day 1/Afternoon: how high is your Cityslicker?

5.) What plot pieces are you currently interested in following up?

And two more general questions:

6.) After Day 1 is finished, there will be a longer-than-normal delay between content releases. We’ll be using the time to create Menace results, our first Nex-locked content bloc (see below), and generate a similar amount of content for Day 2/Morning as you saw in Day 1/Morning. Given your druthers, would you prefer to have the new content all at once, or have us release it in phases (e.g. first the White Noise menace, then the Heavy Hand of the Law Menace, then the Nex-locked content, etc.)?

6.) We anticipate releasing our first bloc of Nex-locked content in the near future. We have two different content blocs in mind: a mechanics-light sequence about the early years after the Longest Day, and a mechanics-heavy action sequence that gets a little monster-heavy in the middle. We will release BOTH of these content blocs eventually – but which would you like to see first?[/quote]

Sorry for the delay! Real life got to me.

  1. Absolom appears rarely; allies semi-rarely. The grind cards are appearing enough, but the Skunk Brothers card never appeared. I did get my Comanche Charm from Absolom, though.
  2. I like Cutting your Spurs, with its hint of danger— though I am kinda worried about the Roughriders now :) The Mission is mildly interesting at the moment.
  3. I gotta love the Jackrabbits. The Hon. Ms. Dowd seems like a colorful character as well.
  4. 18, of course.
  5. I am wondering about the Mr. Velvet and company. He seems… intriguing. I’m also curious about Little Japan and the Amarillo academy, both of which are mostly closed off as of yet; they seem like they might prove fruitful. Additionally, it’s obvious Ms. Postmaster’s-Second knows about Our Hero… interesting…
6A. Phases. Every bit I can jump at helps~
    6B. Mechanics-heavy. I really am wondering about the monsters…

Also, slight typo when first meeting the Governor's Aide. The card says:
"Company for the Governor's Aide has increased to [level]!"
No number, just [level].

Also, with our friend the Engineer...
" She'll order two drinks. She'll order one, give it to you to "hold" -- read: pour out -- and snipe another off a passing waiter.[i]"
[/i]Is she ordering two drinks, or one? [confused]

Also, meeting Ms. Ironfist:
"...a towering figure in black satin and pearls, six and a half feet if she's an inch, straight-spined, haughty, imperial."
I went to the trouble to steal a diamond necklace for her. Why is she not wearing it?

Also, listening to Very Old Johnson's legends:
"Nevertheless those kinds of details could be of interest to you."
Needs a comma.
Re the bats: "...a handful of tiny Stephen Kings afraid of their own bogeyment"
'Bogeymen'.

At the conclusion of the Astrologer storylet:
"You eyes have seen the [might be a spoiler]."
Should be 'your eyes'.

Okay, I’m done with the first part of Day 1/Evening.

There is a serious timing issue with the party. Put simply, I was able to wrap EVERYTHING up by 10:00 except the dice game, which was sorted by 10:27. (This is with me failing at my share of Cityslicker challenges, too.) Once everything was done, the ‘Close Evening’ card showed, where it says it’s half past 11. However, it was immediately followed by the final pinned card for Cutting your Spurs, which takes place at half past 10.

This is mildly confusing. Perhaps the ‘close evening’ card shouldn’t fire until all the subplots have been resolved, too?

We may need to lower the time cap. Stay tuned. And thanks for the feedback!

Couple of typos in Afternoon, on ‘White Collar, Blue Collar’, if you pick the Roughrider option:

and

On ‘Cleaning House’:

Those shouldn’t be possessives, as far as I can tell.

Attention closed beta testers (folks with access to Day 1/Evening):

We’re locking off Day 1/Evening for a little while to make a few structural changes. A Must card will fire the next time you log in. The card will be unplayable until we’re done futzing, which shouldn’t be very long.

Once we’re live again, we’ll post another note here. The changes being made include: increasing the time increment on An Evening Under Lamplight and slightly increasing the difficulty on all D1-E Opportunity cards. Thanks for your patience!t

I’ve been playing this morning (finally was able to begin to increase my “Time to Move On” quality.) and I noticed that, after I had visited St. Francis, the words “St. Francis” came up over the logo (right next to the words “Welcome to StoryNexus”) and won’t go away, even though I’ve since changed game locations.

Catherine - Have you had a similar thing happen in any other world? And is there any chance you might be able to provide a screenshot?

And Zero Summer’s first session of Emergency Maintenance should be complete! The Evening is once again accessible. An Evening Under Lamplight and card Difficulties have been adjusted (along with some light proofreading), hopefully leading to a smoother and more natural play experience for all. Do sing out if you encounter further bugs or anything strange, and it will be dealt with as swiftly as we can manage.

Catherine, you might have already been informed, but it seems your quirk with St. Francis is a platform bug, and thus beyond my powers. The FailBetter team might or might not want a screenshot still.

We would like to hear from someone who 1.) hit the Emergency Maintenance card during downtime and 2.) was either able to, or not able to, return to the regular game.

Just a bit of playtesting here. One response is plenty. Thanks!

Woah jeez looks like I’m tardy again.

-“An Evening Under Lamplight” card: The sky is overcast by the air is mild

-The clock generally seems to advance by 4 minutes every card, not 3.

-“Drinks With an Excitable Engineer” card: Then she insists you dance faster The ellipses is missing one period.
–Also: “The Hex is where I work” she tells you Missing a comma.
–Also: “Scotch on the rocks with a twist,” she says firmly. "But hold the ice. Is “But hold the ice” supposed to be part of the previous sentence? If so, there should be a comma after “firmly” rather than a period, I think.

-Drinks With an Excitable Engineer shows up in the second section (“minor” qualities, I think they’re called?), but Legends of the Fall does not (it’s in the drop-down section you have to click on to see).
–Same with The Dark Hungry Eyes of Elena Villalobos.

-Seems you have an error that shows the wires: Company for the Governor’s Aide has increased to [level]!

-“Legends of the Fall” card, level 3: afraid of their own bogeyment

-“An Amateur Astrologer” card, level 5: among the pink and baby blue hydrangeas clustered along southern face Sounds like there should be a “the” in between there.
–Also: his face more each time Sounds like there should be an adjective in there somewhere?

-Yay you’re acknowledging that long periods of unconsciousness mean brain damage!

-Woo, I managed to finish every single storyline at the party! : D I clipped it by a wire, too – the last story was finished literally at the final opportunity, I think.

So I guess that’s it, then? Interesting! I like what you did with the opportunity cards. And the new subplot chapters are very interesting indeed – looks like we’ve got a healthy dose of some supernatural stuff.

There are few facts with which I am more intimately acquainted with than unconsciousness and brain damage.

And as ever, typos assassinated!

It’s all in the details. :)
