Whitsun 1899

Whitsun is here! A Fallen London festival marked by the mysterious and abrupt appearance of eggs!

Eggs all over London – in bath tubs, balanced on chimneys, nestled in sofas, tucked in the holds of docked ships. And they’re vast ones, the size of a beer barrel, an over-rounded dog, a prize-winning marrow.

This year, a new type of egg is available at Whitsun. The Percipient Egg is much like the Scarlet and Aged eggs – except in the ways in which it is not. What will hatch from it?

All of last year’s Whitsun items are available again this year, though Scarlet Eggs will cost one Amber Ha’Penny to buy. Once again, you will get three Ha’Pennies at the start of the festival, with the ability to obtain more for Fate. Spend them wisely.

The three free Ha’Pennies are great to see. The speculation around that can finally be put to rest. Also, because I am currently in Parabola casing some places, I can see that one of the new creatures is a…scorpion-tailed squirrel! Apparently it’s called an Acicular Squirrel. You can use this cute killer to scout out Parabola using Kataleptic Toxicology instead of Glasswork.Happy hatching!

Until the 24th, per the blog entry.

With more Ha’Pennies available this year, does that mean the Experimental Device is no longer Fate-locked for wiki-purposes?

I believe it’s not considered fate locked now.

Wait, it’s started already? Just like that?

A little notice would have been nice, I think.

Can’t say I’m thrilled about the new ha’penny cost on Scarlet eggs either, it strikes me as a very nasty surprise for anyone who might have happened to prioritize Aged eggs last year.

I am going to update the wiki page on this.
As soon as this lag on the wiki clears up. Goddamn, Fandom was more reliable on its response.

Where are the Augments for the New Egg?

The only places that could reasonably have them are Wilmots End, the Bazaar Sidestreets, Moloch Street and Spite

Well, another year’s come and once again I’ve traded a Vial of Master’s Blood for A Sealed Copy of the Crimson Book vaguely wondering if the latter will ever be relevant in anything, ever.

Also to Deathjack999:

Enlightened: Wolfstack and Mrs. Plenty’s.
Invigorated: Veilgarden and Shuttered Palace.

Edit: Also can anyone confirm if the new egg has no interaction with Sinning Jenny’s finishing school? Or have I forgotten than you need to enlighten/invigorate and then augment it one or more times?

Ah, frag it. I am not updating the wiki’s Whitsun-related pages until tomorrow. The lag is horrible.

I’ll update the guide in a few hours.
Needed info: new augments, new pets, anything else new. Post there.
Ha’pennies are a sticky topic, there’s a catch I can see. More info when I collate the guide.
Ha’pennies are a sticky topic, there’s a catch I can see.
Gating old eggs behind them so you have to keep spending fate each year if you want to hatch all the types? Or something worse than that?

As with the others, the Percipient Egg has a buyer in the bone market: Author of Gothic Tales (respectable + dreaded), trades for 10 hinterland scrip.

This. I thought the augizmo this year can only be obtained through social action, but I was looking in the wrong place.

Anyone know what’s needed to hatch an Unquenchable Firebird? The wiki doesn’t say.

Matthew, take a look at this guide:

This guide does: https://community.failbettergames.com/topic27906-whitsun--guide.aspx#post248186
You’ll need Scarlet Egg (need Ha’Penny), invigorate it, slap both augments and augizmo (bought with Ha’Pennies) it.

I agree with you that there was no warning that some content from last year would be retired. But on the other hand, this soft-retiring is much gentler and more player-friendly than, say, Hallowmas, Fruits, or the Election. With those Festivals, legacy content either requires Fate, or is flat-out inaccessible (Mayoral content at Fruits). Legacy Whitsun content will be accessible without paying real money.

The bit that irks me the most is that while everyone is affected, everyone is not affected equally, in a way that we had no way of foreseeing.

Finally found all six of the Augmentation sites; a few are in different places this year:

Grotesque Augmentation: Department of Menace Eradication
Augmentation in the Very Latest of Fashions: Mrs. Plenty’s Carnival
An Augmentation Applied on the Sly: The Flit
Ornate Augmentation: Veilgarden
An Augmentation Rejecting Convention: The Shuttered Palace
A Contorting Augmentation: Wolfstack Docks

The Tailor is in Ladybones, as was the case last year.
