Weekly Fallen London Questions, 30/10/2017

I’m currently in Venderbight, and I need just a smidge more Ambition: Nemesis to get up to the level I need to progress things. (I think.) But I also am just a smidge of nightmare away from being sent to the mirror marches.

I don’t have permanent access to the docks, so I had to wait for the card in order to be able to reach Venderbight. If I end up in the mirror marches, will I be sent back to Venderbight once I regain my sanity, or will I be dropped back in London to await another card for access to the docks?

You will be returned to your lodgings. But some non-london places don’t boot you if your menaces are too high, so you can hope.

Set off for Hunter’s Keep. If your nightmares reach 8 there, you’re sent back to the start of the carousel with your nightmares set to 5.

How to increase Hedonist from 10 to 12?
How to increase Hedonist from 10 to 12?
If you haven’t moved past the initial Term Passing… carousel at the University, you can hook up with the Provost at Term Passing… 12, which can increase Hedonist up to 15. If you have access to Court, there is an option there, but it involves pursuing both the Barbed Wit and the Acclaimed Beauty simultaneously, which is an excessive amount of actions. The third Renown: Hell raising option also will increase Hedonist above 10.

Aside from those, there’s a rare success on a repeatable storylet during the Feast of the Rose, if you’re willing to wait a few months.

Thanks Kaigen. I will wait for Feast. What is the storylet exactly?

 1. They don’t have access to the Docks yet, so they don’t have their own ship.

 2. Venderbight which can be reached via the Nemesis Ambition is not a sailing destination anyway.

I have a spare mark of credit page in my inventory. It can’t be accessed from there and can’t be sold. Is there any use for it at this point? Or should I have spent it when I got it? I notice there is still the option on Spending and Secrets to get another one from the Numismatrix. So I’m assuming there is a use I am unaware of. Anybody know? Should add that I have the Iron Republic Passport.

In addition to using them to buy an Iron Republic safe conduct or Consonant Violin, you can trade them for multiple favours with various factions (which ones depend on your Closest to…) on the &quotSecrets and Spending&quot card when it comes around.

To clarify, you get one favour from multiple factions, rather than multiple favours from a single faction.

Raise Counting the Days to 14. After that on Secrets and Spending opportunity card you can spend your marks of credit. More info here http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/Counting_the_Days
Im sorry I feel like I ask questions too much lol

My seeking alt has just got to the point where they can well, start seeking but, what do I do now? I did the option in the Forgotten Quarter, got a Bad End and have my seeking up to 3 now, i’ve looked up some guides but i’m still a bit confused, some seem to say I have to wait a week for cards but others say I can raise my seeking by other means too? What do I do?
You can advance faster if you use resources, as outlined in the I’m a Candle guide. Appalling Secrets, mostly. If you have a lot of them and high Watchful this is doable for quite a few levels.
You’ll come to the weekly point eventually though, unless you really want to spend a lot of resources. That one works best with a Starveling Cat and access to the Labyrinth of Tigers (1st Coil). In the Flit you go to the Cats and Bats storylet (must have advanced to that as well), pick cats and then the Starveling Cat. You’ll get 3 Unaccountably Peckish (UP) each time you use it. Use it three times - you could use it less at lower levels, but it’s not the best option.

Then you draw cards, and you can draw up to 9 different ones if you have 9 UP. Playing the Seeking option on them (the one that is available if you don’t have Marsh-Mired) will give you a point in SMEN up to (Value of the UP card + 1). While you could, hence, rack up less UP and use lower cards while your SMEN is still low, the 7 to 9 cards are really the most non-crippling ones. Once you have your point in SMEN, you can’t use this option for a week until Time, the healer takes Marsh-Mired from you. So when you’ve gotten your point, you go to the Labyrinth and get some refreshments, for -2 UP a go.

If you find yourself with a full hand of UP cards you don’t want to use, you can use the Labyrinth as well, until you have UP low enough for them to disappear, then use the Starveling cat again, etc.

You can do this up to SMEN 28, when you can go for gaining Mr Eaten’s Calling card for yourself, if you don’t have it already.
http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/Seeking_Mr_Eaten’s_Name_(Guide) is a good resource for the whole process.

I am aware this option exists at the crunch point of drawing the Secrets and Spending card. In fact, I just drew it and spent the new mark of credit. My problem is that last time the card came around, I opted to buy a mark from the Numismatrix, and it now sits in inventory and is not accessible. I can’t use it or sell it, and nor can I sell the Iron Republic pass in order to put the m.o.c. towards a new one.

– Hold on, the penny just dropped. I haven’t got the violin yet, so there is still a point to saving the m.o.c., Thanks for the nudges!

One round to get the mark, one to spend it, unless you’re going for the violin or the contract - then you’ll need a few more rounds of buying the pages until you have enough.

Since you have one spare, you can spend it the next round.

Uhh… so, I got the Errors of London storylet. What will happen if I betray/keep the confessions I’ve gained?

Yes, well, it clearly doesn’t work that way, since I had the &quotspare&quot already when I drew the card this morning, and was only able to spend the &quotnew&quot one. I assume that once the player has acquired all the items that need more than one mark, the card will no longer show options that allow a mark to be received but not spent.

Are you closest to a Faction? You can use Marks to get Favours, but only if you’re closest to a particular faction.

I’m confused by your description of what happened, or you might be confused about how this works. Once per draw of Secrets & Spending, you can either acquire OR spend a Mark. If you had a spare Mark, and you drew the card this morning and spent a Mark, then the Mark that you spent was the &quotspare&quot one. You did not acquire a &quotnew&quot mark unless you somehow drew Secrets & Spending twice.
Uhh… so, I got the Errors of London storylet. What will happen if I betray/keep the confessions I’ve gained?
Exactly that and nothing more. You can roleplay the decisions without fear of missing anything unique or especially noteworthy.

When it says that Hallowmas lasts until November 7, this means that I should finish everything by November 6, yes?

(I’m sorry this is such a silly question. I can never remember, and I want to carefully watch the Notability grind and make sure to trade in Confessions.)

It is likely going to end on the 7th around noon in the UK, but as there is no precise announcement about the time, it is better to get done sooner rather than later.
