Weekly Fallen London Questions, 27/09/2021

Here’s this week’s thread for quick Fallen London questions.

If I put my townhouse in the hands of the governess, what happens to my accrued scheme engagement? I’m keeping over 20 in case I need to make some serious waves, but I’m also getting sick of the card.

Scheme sticks around. My Salon is on ice, and I have 58 levels of Scheme still on my character. You will have no way of using it while the property is mothballed, but if you let yourself draw the card again later you’ll be able to spend the scheme that you previously invested in.

You are most very welcome!
Wait. No. I am most very welcome. No.
Yes! Thankful! I am thankfully very welcome!
Crap.
Well, it’s all there, somewhere.

Other than the Lapsarian Art - does anything else in the game have a negative Dreaded modifier? Or does my membership at Sophia’s mean i can never get a clockwork drownie?

Yes, there are quite a few. The biggest Dreaded penalty is the Forty-Nine-Voiced Warbler, -12 Dreaded. There’s also Tentacle Mitts and a Possessed Goldfish, -4 Dreaded each.

Are any of them non-fatelocked and non-seasonal?

All of them are, but most negative BDR items need access to Parabola. Tentacle Mitts are purchased in the upper river for 800 scrip

That’s fine, my main (being the Sophia member) has a Parabolan basecamp. Now, to figure out how to raise the number of that warbler’s throats to the second power…

Streetcat has a similar (worse, actually) problem with Bizarre. What items should it aim for, to offset that?

Parabolan stuff for that too. Viric frock, viric lizard, possessed goldfish.

And a possessed lucky weasel (Weasel of Social Discomfiture) is the Respectable one. All three stats have a -12 pet you can get in the Dome of Scales once you’re in Parabola

Best way to increase Dreaded, anyone?

I am trying to buy surface blooms, but the Teller of Terrors won’t talk to me. I have possessed goldfish for sale, damnit!

I have Sophia’s, a Bifurcated Owl, a remorseless carriage, and some +1 items. I get to 11…so close!

Gloves, boots, home comfort and an affiliation are the obvious holes to fill. I have access to Parabola but not the railway.

Can’t you hire a busker?

Anyways a quick way to increase Dreaded is to have someone slight you and then send an assassin after them. It will give you a temporary dreaded mood.

Busker still requires 13.

Check out Dreaded Items - Fallen London Wiki

  • Boots: Kingscale at the Bazaar is the easiest. The Renown 25 item for Revolutionaries or Renown 40 item for Constables would be better because they are Best-in-Slot for other stats.[/li][li]Affiliation: Gang of Hoodlums gives +2, that’s a POSI item. Their opportunity card gives a Criminal favor.[/li][li]Home Comfort: Wage campaigns in Parabola until you have 5 Parabolan Parables, them combine them into the Snake Staff. Huge investment, it’s 1.5k echoes of items, but it also gives Glasswork and good Shadowy. (The other staves give Bizarre or Respectable.)

Thanks! I have yet to explore the Parabolan war, I only just got there. Gang of hoodlums looks easiest. And the boots. I had forgotten about these. Though I’m saving up for a parabola linen suit, so not very cashed up. I could, though. I’m not too sure what items are good to sell and what to hang on to, so I’ve been quite conservative and have a lot of some low level things.

So, apropos of my previous: got any recommended London cash grinds for low shadowy characters?Low shadowy makes the Bone Market and Newspaper harder. (Or beginner parabola, or local Zee.)

I’ve been looking at the wiki for items with no known use so I can sell them. I need so many echoes for parabola suits for camp fortifications, and perhaps those boots. Also I really need explosives so the lab grinds are not so slow.

Perhaps an odd question–I’m not even quite sure how to phrase it-- but, is there a " point" to the Khanganian Intrigues? That is, is there some specific goal I should be having in mind as I Intrigue my way around? I’m building up my network, but at the moment I have no idea as to why or what for-- I went to deal with the storylet, and now there’s this Cycle, and I’m wondering where it all stops, and if there’s any reason not to just boat back to London, and my business with the railways, and a Clay Marauder…

I’m not an expert, but the wiki lists a few options that don’t require Shadowy, depending on your other stats.

The Infiltrator’s Footsteps is a major goal. You can also earn Corresponding Sounders - and, thus, Violant-filled Mirrorcatch Boxes - and a variety of other rewards.
