Weekly Fallen London Questions, 22/1/2018

You spend the Scheme quality to invite people. You can bank it without limit.

There are also a few options that require higher amounts of scheme. In general, the amount of Making Waves you gain is proportional to the CP loss of Scheme that you spend.

Ok, so what is the deal with the Scandalous Party part of the Townhouse card? Sometimes I get favors on it, sometimes I would have done but it can’t exceed that number, sometimes it goes higher then the number in the previous example. I don’t get it. All I know is my scandal is getting high.

I mean, it’s exactly as described on the wiki. You get 0-1 favours of each type but all favours from all sources are hard-capped. If the RNG rolls 0 for a favour type you won’t get any of those favours. If it rolls 1 you’ll get a favour as long as you are not already at the maximum of 7 favours for that type. What exactly is the source of confusion?

The way the Townhouse reports its results can be confusing if you don’t know all the mechanics behind it.

You always have a 50% chance to gain a Society favor and a 50% chance to gain a Bohemian favor. These two chances are independent. If the results text says “remains unchanged” for a Faction, then you lost the roll and failed to gain a favor.

If you have 0 favors with a Faction, and fail to gain a favor with that Faction, then the results text will not mention that Faction at all.

Favors are hard-capped at 7. If you have 7 and succeed in the roll to gain one, you get text informing you that quality cannot exceed 7. If you have 7 favors and fail to gain one, then you get the same “remains unchanged” text as a regular favor.

Concerning Salon scheme: raising it above 6 is never wasted. You may choose to raise it for example say to 12, and invite people over and over, till it is below six again. OR you might choose to invite someone who requires a higher amount of scheme. The presbyter Diplomat for example generates a lot of making waves, and requires scheme 8.

Oh, the app version has music?

One don’t need to use app to hear it, look here!

Let me try my luck in here:
Can someone PM/post via spoiler tag the reward for a A Blemmigan work?

A sacrifice is required, but I’m hoarding Trade Secrets and a Goat is a bit expensive to do so.
Checking wiki I see that there are some Fate locked stories which require the player to pursue a case. I guess that The Effusive Relicker is no longer available so, besides the The Seven-Day Reign, I finished the Clay Man’s Arm and Where You and I Must Go.
Does The Seven-Day Reign really offer the possibility to farm case notes? I only need loads of those! :D

Cheers!

It’s very similar to barely-clad decadence but without zone change.

As for the case notes, the wiki is up-to-date on what fate stories gives you notes. Effusive Relicker is from a Trade in Faces which can be repeatedly reset for Fate. But the only reliable way of getting lots of case notes without sinking ungodly amounts of fate is during the election.

Incidentally, if you are after a sacrifice, why not a noman?

ETA: Ah yes, there is of course the option of repeatedly abandoning the case once you reach 10 progress. I forgot about that.

So those Fate stories don’t have the regular investigation where I can quit the case (or however is done) and just start the case again? :|
And sacrificing my snow friend is out of the question!

For completeness’ sake: if all you want is to grind case notes, then you can abandon your case at 10 progress and still get one. I don’t know if this outright cancels fate stories, but it should work on any of the starting cases (if for some reason one still has them available) or of course the election case.

Yes, you see to explain better what I want. If the Fate locked investigations have the same possibility to abandon the case at 10 progress, get case note, repeat. I’ll do another check about the regular stories in case I missed an investigation opportunity. :)

Cheers!

I have a question that I couldn’t find an answer to on the forums. I hope it fits in this thread. If not, my apologies.

Is there a way to somehow export all my journal entries or at least gather them in a quicker manner than going through my journal page by page?
I was hoping collect them in a single document to kind of reminisce about my adventures of the past years a bit.

I’m considering trying to keep a Noman alive this year until the Feast of the Rose, but am not sure I have enough Tears. (I’ve read NiteBrite’s guide, and I’m afraid I’m still confused.) I currently have Taste of Lacre at 7, 6 buckets of Lacre, and 18 Tears of the Bazaar. This seems low to try to keep a Noman until the Feast, but I’m really not clear on the best way to raise Taste of Lacre to 15 for the Noman, or the best way to raise Noman’s friend after I get the Noman.

Any help with my confusion would be most gratefully appreciated.

It’s possible, but it will be very risky. If you’re unlucky then the investment (mostly the cost of Tears) will be lost. If you don’t like taking risks, it might be best to save the Tears (and ToL!) until next year, which will give you a head start (also consider converting left over pails to more ToL for next year before they melt - this requires having a Dreadful Surmise).

If you are interested in risks, then here’s the breakdown on how to do it:

If you still haven’t create a Noman, then your only way to even get one is if you have a Dreadful Surmise (if you don’t, stop here):

  • Use Tears to raise ToL to 11 (and hope you don’t lose a Tear doing so)[/li][li]Use a Dreadful Surmise 4 times with pails of so-called snow to raise ToL to 15 (use second chances as much as needed - you can’t afford to lose this Dangerous stat check).[/li][li]Buy a Noman

At this point you’ll be left with 2 pails of so-called snow and probably 17 Tears (assuming you lost one).

You can only get ToL again (from scratch) using pails and you’ll only have 2. So you can only do the following process twice:

  • Use your monocle on a pail to gain 3 x ToL.[/li][li]Warm your Tears until you get to ToL 11. This will cost you 1.5 Tears on average.[/li][li]Use the ToL option on the Noman’s Progress card to convert the 11 ToL into 33 x Noman’s Friend.

Doing the above twice will give you 66 x NF (166 in total) and no more pails nor ToL. You’ll also probably have about 14 Tears left.

Here’s where the luck part comes in: Applying the Tears directly to the Noman (which doesn’t require ToL) can give you 1-25 NF. So on average you can expect to get 182 x NF, which in total should get you to 348 x NF.

Depending on how many visits of Time, the Healer your Noman needs to survive (until the tattoo parlour opens) this is possible but very risky.

If you’re really lucky when applying the tears, though (i.e. getting 25 ToL out of them instead of the average 13 I’ve used above) they might get you 350 x NF instead of the 182 I’ve listed above (for a total of 516, which should be plenty to get the tattoo with little worry). But the chances for such an excellent result are very slim.

Thanks! That’s a really helpful breakdown. I think I’ll probably wait until next year, then, as I’m not feeling particularly lucky.

What is the best way to raise connection with the Widow? I need it for conflict card with urchins.

Buy a copy of O’Boyle’s Practical Primer in the Various Languages of Nippon, Tartary, Cathay and the Princedoms of the Raj.

Well that will only get you so far without Fate (not far enough to draw the conflict card) and it costs thirty nicker. To my mind that’s thirty nicker wasted.

You could try simply going to Spite and working for her.

I got a ton of connected by just working for her, yeah. Averages out to ~7 CP per action and nets some pittances of jade.

How much connected does tha card require? I have never seen it.
