One of them is required for the "normal" way to upgrade one of the four-card lodgings. Though if you’re planning on doing that, the Neathmas option is vastly cheaper and does not require it.
Ulysses Kingfisher - I had gained at least two Starstone Demarks from Exceptional Stories and the like after I had spent scraps to get my first one. So had I known that I probably would have saved those scraps for something else.
That said, there are various rewards for many of the stories depending on which decisions you make, so nothing’s guaranteed.
J-
P.S. I had also sold the location of the Cave of the Nadir to the Great Game, saving me a boatload of scraps for “Something Secret.”
=)
You don’t get favours fast. Most favours come from cards and as far as I know there is no other way to get Society excepting turning cards and hoping the RNG is kind. Tip for that is to use the places that don’t have location specific cards - the Forgotten Quarter and The Labyrinth of Tigers. Good luck and may the RNG be kind.
The options at the Carnival close when you get to a certain level of renown. The only other thing is that you need Carnival tickets to use those things. Use mouseover and you will find out why you can’t use the big top.
i have no renown with society thats the problem. im trying to get to the ball…
[li]
You can get 5 renown at plenty’s Carnival, plus 7 favours.
i have no renown with society thats the problem. im trying to get to the ball…
Correct me if I’m wrong, but you don’t need Renown: Society to reach the Ambassador’s Ball? You need one Favour: Society in addition to the material cost. If you currently don’t have any Renown, though, you can easily get this at Mrs. Plenty’s Carnival, as previously noted.
EDIT: Adding a question of my own:
What’s the best way to reroll the Airs quality? I’m currently working with the Widow to restock my jade and to get the profitable conflict cards / Implausible Penance option, but is there a better way? Thanks.

I generally find Opportunism in Spite useful for this and other things (weasels! bundles! Suspicion lowering!)
You need The Darling of the Ambassador’s Ball in order to get Favours: Society at Mrs Plenty, that’s likely the problem astranox has run into. In that case, I think opportunity card based options such as Park and Palace: Society or the Thoroughbred Slug are their only options, I can’t think of any non-opp card based sources.
I’ll be first out of the gate and ask mine…where have the BDR indicators gone?
You know, the three stat-doodads that measure your total modified BDR.
Yeah, they no longer show up when I equip stuff that would increase it like my Gang of Hoodlums…or my Blemmigan Tourist…or my Academic Gown.

Yeah I had that happen for a bit, it seems to have stopped happening by now. I thought I was completely stupid for a bit, or that I’d somehow maxed out the number of icons I could have on that sidebar, because of the Popular Song menace, an (accidental!) point of Turncoat, and Irrigo–it was the first time I’d had Irrigo; I’d just gotten back from the Nadir. I’m glad I wasn’t imagining it!
I’m on a Voyage of Discovery–if I stop in Polythreme, will I still be on a Voyage of Discovery when I set sail again, or will I have to go through that entire process again? Or does it only reset when I reach London?
I think it doesn’t actually reset until you go to organise your notes or something, but I may be wrong - I can go research any of the islands right now without doing anything beforehand to embark in a particular way, but it may be different for the very first time you set out, I don’t quite recall. The wiki might be helpful to check whether any qualities are modified at any point.
I personally always go for the Tradition Developed After the Fall in Ladybones Road, which gives wine (always good to have wine, for Tears and Blood and eventually perhaps a Noman tattooo) and, more importantly, a pretty good chance at an Aeolian Scream (might be something like 10% in my experience) which saves on using Urchin favours to upconvert plaques (with said Favours being better used on scraps in the Flit if you’ve maxed out the renown already).
I use the Honeyden in Veilgarden. The options change with the airs so you can see immediately if you have got the value you want.
Exchanging wine for honey gives 1cp of MW. The honey can be upcoverted to Romantic Notions and exchanged for the wine when Mr Wines turns up, not vastly profitable but a reasonable cycle.
Some of the 2 action options are pretty good as well.
It only resets when you pick a special option in your lodgings - you can jet around the Unterzee even unto the Winking Isle itself and it’ll stay in place until you’re done.
Anyone know what’s up with the blemmigan tourist that we got recently?
The storylet just showed up, I got the tourist, and now it’s gone. Does it have to do with #loveindies ? Is it tied to some recent ES that I did? A setup for some future content?

It’s a reward for the Sunless Skies Kickstarter.
Question. If a storylet is locked with Impossible!, is it impossible for all players because the content hasn’t been released yet, or is it impossible for me because I haven’t reached a level of attainment that is deliberately hidden from me?
I ask out of curiosity, because there’s a particular storylet that has been Impossible! since I went on hiatus 5 years ago, and I have difficulty believing that FBG hasn’t implemented that content all along.
Second question, to do with social action etiquette. I (the player) have a main and an alt, listed in my sig, and many forumers list their alts in their sigs too. What is the etiquette about making Acquaintances with multiple alts? ie. Is it alright for my two alts to make acquaintance with another single character? What about my two alts making acquaintance with each of another player’s alts?
I know it’s a bit much of a muchness (it’s all about the character in play, who cares that they’re all alts of a single RL person) but I was wondering if there was an etiquette behind this. It currently feels a bit weird making Acquaintance to one character with all my alts (almost like I’m spamming them), but I’m sure this feeling will pass… ;)

That means the content is as-of-yet unreleased for every player. And yeah, some things have been Impossible! for a while. They’ll be released when/if they’re done.
Hi everyone!
I have just completed “The Gift” (many thanks to FBG for the discount), choosing to let Beatrice munch on me a little, and I’m now insatiably curious about the other two choices, as well as the earlier choice (I searched around for valuables and would like to know what happens if you replace the doll).
Could someone PM me the results or post links to relevant journal echoes? I realize this thread may not be the best place to ask, but the thread dedicated to The Gift hasn’t been posted in for 3,5 years and I felt awkward about resurrecting it. And I have no hope of finding the echoes myself since it’s been the same 3,5 years since most people played the story. Help me out, pretty please?..

It is generally frowned upon (and in extreme cases possibly a violation of the ToS) to use your alts to dramatically improve the stats, wealth, etc. of your own main or other of your own alts.
As far as your alts interacting with the mains/alts of other people I’m not aware of any standard etiquette, other than to ask people individually if they are okay with your alt(s) talking to their main and/or alt(s. I RP with the mains and alts of several players, as do many others, so what you propose is not at all unusual.[li]

Many thanks to all my fellow procrastinators for confirming that I can unlock and play the purchased ES at my leisure! Having missed out on unlocking this ES in time once already, I was a bit anxious about it…
How do you guys do that? HOW?
I am always too fond of the lore; it is hard waiting for a few hours.
Just as Plynkes wrote, I also have the tendency to "save" nice things for later, mostly because I know I’ll enjoy them more if I’m relaxed and in a good mood. I do all my grinding when I’m stressed from work. ;) It’s been helpful sometimes when the ES is discussed in the forums, e.g. to avoid an unsignalled quirk drop, or whatever.
