Here’s this week’s thread for any Fallen London questions you don’t want to start a whole thread for!
Welp, I asked a little too soon about the ivory humeruses.
Considering this is a primate week, I’m thinking of liquidating them along with either my headless or human ribcages. What’s the best way to go about it? Sticking any random skull on? Selling to the author of gothic tales purely out of convenience?
I had a quick looksee and I don’t appear to have a huge stockpile of anything else aside from St Fiacre’s, if it’s any help.
Thanks in advance to anyone not as smoothbrained as I!
You won’t be able to use Headless skeletons to get rid of arms because they don’t lack arms.
Human or Thorned ribcages will both work, difference being Thorned lets you stick a tail. Primate week applies to Ape & Monkey in addition to human, which lets you use only Arms. Personally I would leave the Relics and home for a more heretical use and just liquidate your Arms.
The Gothic Author isn’t incredibly convenient imo because you need both Antiquity and Menace, and Ivory bones have neither. So you would either need to be picky with your skull and use Horned or Sabretooth, or you have a bit more flexibility with Thorned because that already comes with Menace. Use those skulls if you happen to have them, but I wouldn’t go looking for more.
If your goal is just Scrip, then maybe consider Mrs Plenty, or the Rubbery Collector. A thorned ribcage on its own has the qualities to make the sale to either. Bonus payout for both is Rubbery Pies.
Would you say it’s be worth punting a Vake head on it?
It is an option for me, I should have mentioned it, I suppose.
I don’t have one myself so I never considered it. Looking at the wiki, it seems good? Converts Bone Fragments to scrip at a fair rate and good volume. It gives a lot of Menace but no Antiquity, so this is probably best if you were planning to sell to Mrs Plenty. And if you are, she’ll love it. Absolutely adore them. She’s gonna make a whole tent just for your Vake Apes, which will piss off both one of the Masters and the entire Empire of Hands. Beauty.
How about an Ivory Rubbervake Monkey?
Thorned Ribcage +1 Menace +1 Amalgamy
Vake Head +3 Menace
2 Ivory Humeri
2 Knotted Humeri +2 Amalgamy
Jet-Black Stinger +2 Menace
Declare as Monkey
Sell to the Rubbery Collector
The main issue with that is my lack of thorned ribcages, really.
Do you have surplus Pincers? You could put your Vake Head on a Human Ribcage, add one Pincer and three Ivory Humeri and declare it an ape to sell to A Teller of Terrors. It’s slightly above 175 € for eight Actions, though 60 of those echoes are in Bone Fragments and 37.5 in Humeri that could be sold directly instead. If you don’t need to source any of the bones and use only stock, ignoring the initial actions sourcing the bones, it’s 10-ish €PA.
Addendum: using four Humeri if you lack Pincers the final sale value is only 2-ish less, but the input value is 12.5 higher leaving you somewhere between 7 and 8 €PA.
Apparently I’m also low on pincers. Guess I never got them as a side result from some carousel or other.
So I’ll stick with human ribcage/vake head/four humeri.
The only place you’d end up acquiring them organically is hunting crabs during migration. If you don’t participate in that, there really is no remotely attractive source otherwise.
As a variation on your recipe, you can use a Brass Skull instead of the Vake Head, if you have more spare Echoes and Brass than Bone Fragments.
In either case, I recommend selling the Ape to the Theologian of the Old School instead of Mrs. Plenty.
The total payout will be slightly lower, but he pays fully in Biscuits which can be sold directly for Scrip.
(Mrs. Plenty’s bonus Rubbery Pies can be converted to Scrip only by spending additional actions at the Pie stand in Ealing).
There’s a fundamental problem in all of these simple recipes, however: an Ivory Humerus attached to a simple skeleton has an effective value of 1500 pennies + 10% zoomania = 33 Scrip, which is only 8 Scrip better than its direct sale value.
You can get Scrip at a faster rate by selling the Humeri directly to the Upper River and using your Actions on any other endgame Scrip grind.
If you could get a good bonus payout from a multiplicative buyer, it might still be worth assembling the skeleton, but that’s going to be very difficult on Primate week. Maybe some sort of Vakosaurus on Reptile Week?
I have also been hit by two TtHs, and they are definitely two separate hits (one where I had enough MW to keep notablity, and the second after halving my MW which cost a point of notability).
I had two TtH messages, but I don’t remember what my MW was the night before, so not sure if it cost me extra. I did NOT get two payments or two Snowbounds, sadly. Seems like a rather cruel accident to happen at a time when so many people are grinding notability!
If anyone dropped to zero notability from the extra hit and needs a donation, I don’t mind sending a point since I’ve hit my minimum goal already.
Yes, same here. But the making waves quality stayed the same, and they both arrived in the same minute (8:08). So I assumed it was a mailing problem rather than something more hinky.
RD
I only received one TtH message (an hour ago).
I’ve messaged support about it straightaway but I don’t necessarily expect them to answer before Monday.
Looking around my accounts, it does seem like almost everyone received two Time the Healer messages, but in most cases they arrived simultaneously and therefore without consequences. Only for two accounts there must have been a slight delay between the messages, resulting in a second halving of Making Waves.
My bad, it’s been repaired already! Lost Notability and Making Waves are reinstated. ![]()
Does the “Social Engagements” tab only come up on the map if you are friends with other players?
I am new to the game and I don’t know any other players yet. I am not quite sure how to connect with others in-game.
