Weekly Fallen London Questions, 09/07/2018

Hey folks! Here’s this week’s thread for quick questions.

Does anybody have the echo for acquiring a Barrel with Leather Shoulder-Straps? I’m afraid that I accidentally dismissed my own.
Does anybody have the echo for acquiring a Barrel with Leather Shoulder-Straps? I’m afraid that I accidentally dismissed my own.
I wouldn’t want to volunteer anyone’s profile without their consent, but if you do a Google search for &quotAt least there are no pockets for thieves to pick&quot (with quotes) you should find a few examples.

Are there any ways to raise Melancholy above 10 for a late-game player aside from (A) raising Great Game Renown and (B) &quotRestitution for the Drowned Man&quot (which gives Marsh-Mired and raises SMEN along with Melancholy)?

Obviously at 12 you can use one of the items or another, but getting from 10 to 12 is the tricky part.

I suppose one COULD just grind Unaccountably Peckish via the Starveling Cat and play Restitution weekly until you get to 12 before giving up the search from &quotA Bad End&quot (the worst you’d suffer is having &quotA Dream of Dark Waters&quot stuck in your hand), but that’s such a damned inconvenience I was hoping for a better way.

I’m sure this is an exceedingly dumb question, but…
I noticed something that is either new or has been there the entire time and I’m just unobservant.
On the card for investigating Dr Schlomo, there’s a small yellow smudge on the man’s cheek.
This has been here the entire time and isn’t something new, right? Because that’d be a real unusual thing to update…

He had roast beef with mustard for lunch.

Is there any special time during the year or something that there are some kind of ‘deals’ for purchasing stories with Fate? I am eyeing a few of them but the 45 Fate seems a bit steep, and wondering if waiting until Christmas or similar may bring better prices.

This was not repeated last year and there’s not a particular reason to believe it’ll appear again, though.

Probably I know the answer, but there’s no way to get the Sharp Iron Key, right?

Not until they reimplement Knife and Candle.

Do you need to stay Notable to keep the good Professions, or just to get them?

Just to obtain the respective profession.

Sweet

You can use Tears of the Bazaar. Using them this way requires a quality that can only be obtained during Sackmass, but can be done any time of the year if you happen to have some points left over. It also requires Tears of the Bazaar (duh), which are difficult to obtain even aside from the considerable expense. But the text is also in my personal top-5 for the whole game.

I recall reading somewhere that the Cider allows for a very profitable echo grind, but I can’t see anything on the wiki. Is it just that the dream cards are so frequent that they can be used as a ~2.5epa grind, or is there something else?

You receive 10 Taste of the Garden per 1 action (and full Wounds healing), as much as you will to get. Then Dream cards give you 1 CP of Nightmares and an EI per 1 CP of said Taste.

Assuming you need to readliy clear amassing Nightmares, it’s closer to 1,9 EPA at best.

Basically have an alt which will always cure you (but not allowed)! 6 AP to use 6 cards, 0.6 for the quality and 1 more AP for curing 6 CP of Nightmares. So a 1.973 EPA.

Alternative: probably it was me talking about Cider and being a Shepherd of Souls to instant clear the menaces. With two items that lower your Nightmares you can go use 54 of those cards. Maximizing those, getting Souls and Contracts, using the Shepherd card, cashing in the 13.5 Favours takes you to something around 190 E for 110 AP. Not much compares to other grinds (specially after the Tiger Court), but there are a few things:

 1. cash in the wines on the Wine card

 2. anyone who finished Soul Trade is advised to do Thieves Cache expeditions for Souls and you get an increased value of the expeditions; you can &quotreduce&quot the AP for expeditions by 500/60 for every stash of souls.

 3. every point of menace that you cure with the Shepherd increases the EPA of this.

 4. probably missing something as it was mostly napkin math

So nothing groundbreaking, and almost downright useless since the tigers were added. Good to know, thanks.

Is there a planned date of release for the conclusion of the last season of ES stories?
Probably missed the announcement
