<<-- This guy here totally regrets siding with the Constable MORE THAN A YEAR ago, and not even talking about the ultimate regret of leaving the Court. In all fairness, shouldn’t friends of the Constable get a useful card too?
I would actually pay Fate to replay the constable story and return to court…
A drink with the Cheery Man now gives Tomb favours?
That’s a second faction that card gives (Criminals, Tomb colonies).
And that’s starting to create quite the gap from players who chose the Cheery over the Constable long long long ago.
Asymmetrical choice, blah blah.
On the flip side, the situation might get a reversal later on if something like "Daddy get toppled by his daughter" happens, or maybe the Constable learnt to poop Antique Mystery from her trip.
I sided with the dad, but I certainly wouldn’t mind something like a Carnelian Coast option for those who sided with the Constable. She is, after all, hiding on a colony on the Elder Continent.
I don’t regret the storyline - it’s probably my favorite of the early ones and I didn’t even look into the Cheery Man’s side deeply. I remember getting the mental image of holding on to a gold fishbowl on a jetty, and holding on to that single goldfish for the longest time as my first pet. But I’d like for her to come back some time!
Well, put it this way - at least it doesn’t also give out a Dock’s Favour?
I wish the rewards weren’t so unbalanced, though. I mean, I’m not getting anything out of siding with the last constable, while other people are getting reliable favors, just because they choose a better horse to back, so to speak.
I find it quite surprising that they wrote nothing equivalent for choosing the Constable. I found the decision a tough one to make, with arguments in favor of both sides. It definitely didn’t feel driven in any given direction, thus my surprise that the results are so uneven.
(I mean, it wasn’t Cheesemonger-level of tough-decisions, but was still quite hard)
It’s just too bad that “Family and Law: 4” + “The Cheery Man and the Last Constable: Favouring the Last Constable” doesn’t unlock an extra randomly-appearing storylet in Port Carnelian having to do with the Percipient Secretary.
Actually, until the recent Favours/Renown change, it was arguably uneven in the other direction, since siding with the Cheery Man adding a (mostly) useless non-discardable card to your deck. So, (role playing aside) siding with the Last Constable used to be the much better choice.
I don’t think they are the same person. The Constable really doesn’t feel like the type that can say "London’s fickle" without raving madly.
Not all of the complaints are about financial benefits. It felt uneven because you have all the time in the world to watch senior citizens manhandle the Cheery Man while never getting to interact with the Constable as they breeze though the storyline.

I agree. That’s why I said "role playing aside". I, too, would love to see some continuation of that storyline.
Besides, what’s "profitable", or "better mechanically" changes all the time.
For example: for a long time, high level players who’ve originally chosen the Last Constable were blocked from choosing the Enforcer profession (since the path via Criminals requires choosing the Cheery Man, and the path via Revolutionaries requires Plotting Against the Masters, which at the time could only be obtained in a very specific mid-level Shadowy stat range).
Hey, I totally forgot about it! And it’s a super great card! I wish she was able to return to London so we could spend some quality time together… Especially since some of us actually obtained her as a companion during the Feast.
In fact… FB said the two next exceptional stories will also be family themed… The Last Constable comeback exceptional story, anyone? Would be pretty damn cool.

EDIT: I should have taken a screenshot of the result page. I think that it has a Hedonist gain, Auster drop, but I can’t remember… Can someone verify?
Gah, I got that card three times in a row and I didn’t keep any notes, but I think you are right.
I can confirm that the branch "Investigate it" of the card "Remnants" grants the aforementioned benefits, and that it offers advance warning that the player will gain a Favour in exchange for increased Scandal.
I have the latter, if you’re still interested (echo here), and I’ve also added an abbreviated version to the wiki.
Can confirm that the unusual frequency card: Allow Dr Schlomo to publish your dreams -> Describe your dreams of dead men
Gives a Favour
Previously, there were two possible successes, only one of which gave TC faction. I’ll let my nightmares creep up a bit in order to confirm whether that’s still the case. Good find.

We’ve seen two high Renown unlocks, but none as high as 20 or with a new card (granted, Docks isn’t a card either). But, I’ve exactly 5 Renown myself and no serious desire to gain more at the moment - anyone actually have 20 and seen anything?
