The guide says that Gifts of Adoration are one item that can be turned in for Masquing and are obtainable from the Perfumed Pleasure Garden. Masquing has existed for four years now so I see no reason the guide here would confuse the two, especially when both are mentioned in the same sentence:
How do I get Masquing?
You can get this up to 30 without Fate by playing specific storylets on The Feast of the Rose opportunity card or by trading in masquing items; things like Gifts of Adoration, Gifts of Scorn or Buttered Chess pieces to a woman you will grow to hate for her tardiness, The Lady in Lilac.
edited by Optimatum on 2/12/2016
It works the same way as the non-Fate gifts - the sender gets a snippet for sending a gift away, and later on the recipient can turn the gift in to Lilac for a different snippet of text (and Masquing).
Hey, sure enough. That must have been done more recently. I remember you used to be able to get Gifts of Adoration at the Carnival.
Then again, I also remember when they cost Fate and you could send this to other players.
Anyway, good catch. I amended the guide to reflect the changes.
Technically, you can still trade in Gifts of Adoration for Masquing. But as there is presently no way to obtain them anymore, most people who still have them probably won’t.
I think this was changed last year.
But that’s why I wanted the guide to have this level of interaction. This is my 5th Feast and some of them kind of blend together.
Thanks for bringing it up!

If my maths are right, and they usually aren’t so feel free to correct me, you would need 389 in non-Fate Masquing and 470 Masquing in Fate gifts for a total of 859 Masquing.
That’s about $85 US and a heck of a lot of Glass Teeth!
Although the Green-Eyed Devil and Quiet Deviless are cheaper (in terms of Fate, though you will have to spend a Direful Reflection and Portfolio of Souls respectively) when bought from the Brass Embassy card during the Christmas season. For the Quiet Deviless, you also need Intimate of Devils 10. Last I drew the card yesterday, the options were still there. They cost 50 Fate each there.
I’d go for that route instead - one stop and no need to wait for multiple FotER cards to raise masquing first and arrange Fate gift exchanges.
Notice that for the 389 non-Fate Masquing, much can come from “free” Masquing from the Feast card and not necessarily in non-Fate gifts.
This is cheaper in terms of gifts, but also slower, as you have to wait each time for the Feast card to raise your Masquing to 20 (actually, you can raise it to 21 if you’re careful and lucky), before cashing in gifts to raise it to 30.
If you’re patient and lucky on the card draws, you’ll only need non-Fate gifts for 11 of the items, to take you from 21 to 30 (so 99 Masquing points worth of non-Fate gifts will be needed out of the 389).
For the Quiet Deviless, you also need Intimate of Devils 10.
Sadly, this is why I’m unable to get the Deviless as a companion, regardless of Fate cost. I can’t raise Intimate of Devils with the state of my stained soul.

You could also try your luck with the Feast’s revel. A couple rare successes there are listed to give Intimate of Devil CP (up to 4), and only the first card cares about the Stains until the option at the end.
I know. I chose not to, both because of RP reasons (it is a character defining attribute), and because I couldn’t be sure of the long term effects if/when Seeking returns. edited by dov on 2/12/2016
That’s an interesting concept! I do have Intimate of Devils 1, and I don’t get the cards which advance this. Do you mean that by getting the quality to 2 the rest of the cards will be unlocked?

Those are the “5-card lodging” options, not christmas options. They are available all year round.
And, IIRC, the devil companions are also available during the early-game loquacious vicar storylinelet. Most people probably don’t want to spend so much money so early in the game, though.
Also, the wiki lists the cost as 40 fate at the lodging, 50 fate via loquacious vicar (and, for completeness, at the feast it’s 70 fate worth of gifts on top of 30 potentially nontfate masquing).

Yep, once you raise it up to 2 you should start getting cards for the storyline since the wiki doesn’t mention anything about them locking due to stains.
You can actually get 22 Masquing by getting to exactly 19 and then grinding the Dance option at the Carnival until you get the rare success, generating 3 Masquing. I was going to do it, but decided I didn’t care enough to not play the Feast of the Rose card every time I got it.
I believe- though i could be mistaken- the devs actually made that impossible. instead, the 3-masqueing won’t pay out at all unless you are at 17 or lower. silly, but… there you go.
Still, if someone can tell me i’m wrong i’d take their word for it.
I treated myself to a nice tattoo of the sun last year. Now I can’t seem to get a second tattoo, because I still happen to have "A recent visit to Millicent’s parlour"
What is wrong here?
