The 'good evening' thread: introduce yourself here

Good Evening Delicious Friends!

I’ve been playing for about a year now on two alts, though one of them - Kitara - I had started and abandoned much earlier. I think this is one of the few games I’ve played which genuinely encouraged role-playing, not just in the sense of getting you to make moves based on what you think your character would do, but in terms of challenging your initial ideas about the character based on subsequent events.

When I started my second account I had the idea that they would be the &quotbad&quot alt - a snobbish imperialist and thief, compared to my serious Vake hunting revolutionary main. Two ambitions later and I find the sentimental Mercy a more sympathetic figure, while Kitara is an untrustworthy nihilist. Yet it all felt very organic.

Good afternoon (it is afternoon where I am located at the moment) dear Londoners!

My name is Rakel, I am an intellectual historian (intellectual history is the study of science in history) who has been playing FL and SS (both of them) for quite a few years now. I enjoy lore and roleplaying as well as real-world equivalents and references in fiction. If you want to discuss something just hit me up.

Lady Krakel of the Fifth Decent is a businesswoman, turned noble, turned scientist and professor, turned revolutionary/player of the Great Game. She descended to London with her family fleeing anti-semitism and political rivals and started engaging in the amber-trade. When her parents disappeared she took over the family business. Her immense wealth made her a friend of the upper crust, and she later got into the secret order of the Fifth Decent. There she started to learn the deeper secrets of the Bazaar, Masters, and Neath which she perused at Benthic College first studying the REDACTED and later Crytotheology. This deeper understanding of the going-ons in Fallen London brought her to, let’s say, people less respectable than her merchant or noble friends.

Lady Krakel likes to take on students of the Language of the Heavens, sending them research in form of Flame-proof Missives. She also likes to discuss the general politics of the Neath over a cup at Beatrices.

I hope we meet soon, perhaps at a dimly lit back street somewhere?

A hardy hello to all.

It has been some time since I visited FL. My last visit ended with me going North, a place from with one does not return. So I’ve put on a fresh face and set myself up in a smoky flophouse to investigate the changes that have occurred in my long absence. You will find me at Lorelu. Surface obligations keep me busy, so my visits are sporadic.

Ahoy, me hearties! I be an old zalt upon these waters, though me current guise be fresh. Thought I’d stop by and pay me respects. I’m currently digging neath the Blind Helmsman and having a grand old time! It warms this old zailor’s heart to be working alongside the community towards a common goal!

Greetings,

I am very new to the game. I was looking for something to play and saw this game recommended on a list of good games. I am quite lost and unsure of what I am doing but, perhaps, that is a normal for a first time player in the beginning.

howdy! i am a player who is relatively new to the game.

my character, khufu is a rootless madman who just recently gained a personality which is both arrogant and hungry for knowledge

Good evening. I am an old soul with a new face.

Eleanora Braithwaite, at your service. Unusually quiet. All shall be well – somehow. Too poetic for her own good, and knows it. Open to acquaintance. Very open to friendship. Please come for tea.

Hello hello! 820 here, reporting in with a fresh new coat of face after a very, very long absence from FL. I used to play quite actively back in 2015 or so, but never really engaged with the community, and eventually stopped playing altogether. I decided to make a new character and try to be a bit more sociable this time around, which includes joining the forums. I hope everyone’s looking forward to the turn of the century!

Good evening Delicious friends. I’m returning to London with a fresh start hoping to become a person of some importance this time. please don’t hesitate to call on me if you need a friend.

Good Morning,

brand new citizen here. Only joined a bit over a week ago and am definitely still trying to find my way around and learn as much as I can. That being said, I’m more than happy to find new friends and am open for any and all social interactions.

Greetings,

I recently began my stay in Fallen London. Although I am still finding my way, I am a lady inclined towards gathering knowledge, solving mysteries, and investigating strange occurrences. I would be pleased to make the acquaintance of any other denizens of this fascinating realm, should you be so inclined.

Kind regards,
Evaine Thuryn

Good evening! It’s been about a year since I fell into the Neath (I got here just in time to see the Grand Clearing Out, but not in time to meaningfully participate). In such time, I’ve completed my Ambition to Bag a Legend, built much of a railway, become a Paramount Presence, and now I’m eagerly snatching up all the Exceptional Stories my meager wages permit. More than happy to send anyone correspondence (or Correspondence!) of any kind.

Be well!
Caiphon

Evening all,

I’ve been playing the game for nearly ten years (that makes me feel old) but only just joined the forum.

I used to be a chef and now I’m a gardener, also an amateur writer.

My reasons for joining the forum are to talk about the food in fallen London and to guess what real places are in the game.

I’ve attempted to make rubbery lumps, but I used fresh tuna, octopus might be better, but it’s too expensive.

I’ve never been to real London and have no desire to, it sounds a lot less whimsical than fallen London. And you’re more likely to get sliced.

Good evening, I’m John. I like most things to be done with horror, tabletop games, and lemon poppy seed muffins.

I am frightfully new and just started playing on impulse, so I have no idea what I’m doing. If anyone would like to offer some advice or take advantage of an easy mark, I’m all ears.

Hi! I’m Mel, or Avra, whichever you prefer, and I started playing maybe two weeks ago? I’m fairly new, but I’ve already kinda gotten an idea of what I want to do in the game- if anyone wants to help me with getting into the Great Game (currently needing some Favors and Renown), it would be much appreciated. Of course, I’ll be equally amused if backstabbed.

Best Regards,
Avra Lost

Greetings, citizens,

After lurking for a while, I’d like to make my debut in the forums. I like many things, like programming, history, linguistics, ecology, coffee, and now, Fallen London: long story short, I read Lovecraft and now we’re neighbours.

Sarandi here left the tropics about a month ago and is completing a week in the Neath. He’s still figuring things out, but I think he’s been handling himself pretty well: he managed to publish not one, but two books during this period. Could this be the beginning of a successful career?

Looking forward to getting to know you and exchanging letters,
Sarandi

Oh my… this has… changed a bit.

On my early foray into Fallen London (2010) this was the thread to introduce yourself to the community - in hopes of making friends and acquaintances and whatnot.

Having returning after over a decade I am pleased to see that things have GROWN considerably, and while navigating the Forum is a bit more complex - I’m sure I will eventually catch on with a little practice.

Resurrection of this ancient thread is my way to put out a few feelers and see if any of my old friends are still about. I’m certain there have been newer ‘introduction’ threads since this one but, this is the one I could easily find.

Sincerely,
–Mme Heather

Greetings, delicious friends.

I used to be a citizen of the Neath under a different name around 2016 to 2020, until I decided to return to the Surface for personal reasons.

However, part of me always missed London, and so this year I have returned, under what I consider to be my true name. I look forward to stories both old and new, and secrets of the most intriguing and deadliest kind.

Sincerely,
Daryl Sun

Dear DarylSun,

Welcome Home!

Are you starting out from the beginning? or picking up where you left off?

I have also just returned to Fallen London from a rather long trip to the surface and My how things have grown. I’ve been inelegantly floundering and stumbling around much more than would be expected of a citizen of my (ahem) tenure and wondering if you are experiencing the same. Most of my friends and acquaintances seem to have moved on but, Maybe we can help each other navigate the changes and reacquaint ourselves to the Neath again.

Sincerely,
Madame_Heather (Fallen London)

As an old hat, I’ll hang myself here.

Northern Wind, or just Northy (or, for that matter, Captain), at your service. I’m not gonna lie, I won’t always be active, but I’ll always be ready to be, time by time. As a citizen of the Neath, I’ve always been eaget to dissect the mysteries and many of the beasties down below. I’ve recently posted my discoveries concerning one of the Neath’s oldest mysteries, and if I have any more revelations, I’d like to continue sharing them here. Been working on a piece on what the Parabolan Sun is a reflection of in reality, as most (if not all) things in Parabola seem to be.

Following off of @Madame_Heather, I am not struggling to navigate many things. I have a fairly firm grasp of what to be doing, just a sluggish motion in my step and an ill-suited schedule to continual activities that has drawn out my growth over many, many years. I enjoy roleplay (even to the detriment of getting things done), story analysis and our fair city a lot. I’m always happy to help, whenever I can. This old Monster-Hunter has seen a lot, despite his relatively low ‘status’ in regards to ‘progress’.

And that’s about that. For your consideration,.
