The Duchess and Her Roseate Splendor

With the new activity that starts in the Shuttered Palace and leads us to Arbor, both sisters became more prominent and somewhat fleshed out. We had some discussion in the last weeks short questions thread and I just came across two more bits that piqued my interest.

  • Her Roseate Splendor is referred to as one of the Duchesses six sisters, which implies there is one more sister than previously known?
  • The Duchess is Her Roseate Splendors older sister, which contradicts theories, that The Duchess is the youngest of the bunch.

For posterity’s sake, I’m including a link to said now-locked weekly question thread.

I noticed that statement about six sisters, and I think it’s just a typo or ambiguity in the text that they are part of a set of six, i.e. the six includes the speaker. In a different echo for the Granary, the text makes explicit there’s six total. (There’s a remote possibility of a Captivating Princess situation, an additional sister born after the Second’s fall, but please don’t believe this.)

I believe there’s contradictory or incomplete information about which sister is which. I have the Attendants reset but not yet replayed, I will be examining it closely.

I stated last week that I thought the Roseate Queen is in one of the three tombs in Willson’s Monument. That was a misinterpretation of the Queen’s interaction with the first tomb, where “from behind the glass, she waves at her own tomb.” I have changed my mind, I don’t think the girl waving is the Queen as a child, but the Queen’s memory of her dead sister.

On the other hand, I do believe the second tomb contains the Obstinate Adoratrice, who you can meet in Parabola. Both sisters associate this tomb with the sun, of which the Adoratrice is the architect. I re-played her parabolan campaign, and the text implies she left her body behind.

I’m not sure who the third tomb belongs to. My best guess is the Mother Superior, who died only recently.

Oh wow, there’s something new about the Duchess and her sisters?

Really hope I’ll find the time to play some Fallen London again soon…

I have two play-throughs recorded, so if I can be of any help after you’ve replayed the story, let me know. I’ll try and check them later to see if I can find any relevant information.

Wow, they wrote new dialogue for all the lab assistants. Truly one of the great things about the Lab, characters that aren’t part of a storyline get some lines. Everyone’s rolling their eyes at the drama between these two, especially Lettice. Although the Numismatrix’ comment has me wondering…

Thank you for the offer! I fully journaled my original playthrough as well, but I want to take the time to poke around in there and make sure I didn’t miss anything. Besides, I need to regain the story qualtiy for completing it, it has tie-ins.

I’ve been enjoying the new activities associated with this, particularly the new heist and Forgotten Quarter expedition. I hope that there are plans to expand this activity in the future to allow us to deliver gifts to and from the Duchess’ other sisters. In particular, as a Nemesis player I would love to visit the Mother-Superior at Abbey Rock.

She could have us deliver a weapon to the Duchess, hoping to bring her joy, but it would turn out she was precipitous in passing it to us - she forgot to heat it first, so we need to bring it to the correct temperature before delivering it. Mother Superior jumped the gun - happiness is a warm gun.

I can’t wait to get that one!

And I really hope they add an option to make a delivery to the swan-bride. I liked the Poisoner’s Library a lot and it’d be great to check in with her sometime.
