It was patched in later, yes.
Wait, Spices is still hanging around Station VIII for me. Do I need to do something to activate his departure and invite Fires, or should I report a glitch?
When did the Dirigible bring him in? The current Master deparing is a Living Story which should trigger after about a day, plus or minus server hiccups. If it’s been longer than 24 hours, then I would file a ticket.
If you visit Mr Spices after talking with Mr Fires about its medical condition and raising to the Watchful cap, it will raise the Watchful cap to 218
Ah no worries, it just happened a bit later; must be some quirk of timezones with my country. Also I’m pleased to say that I’ve discovered yet ANOTHER use for A Winged and Taloned Steed, Formerly Mr. Veils. Between this, the unique excavation option at the Evenlode and being able to further reinforce your Parabolan defenses I’m extremely happy to report the Steed seems to be by far the most useful of the Bag a Legend awards.
I previously speculated that Curator Veils could be used to travel to the Roof in order to visit the Hybrid in the future, so it is not a complete surprise. Nevertheless, congratulations on your discovery. Maybe you’ll reach the heart of Stone next!
That WOULD be amazing! Honestly I just feel bad for a couple friends I know who killed Veils all the way because it’s what they set out to do and they didn’t want to listen to no spooky whispers on no winds in Parabola, and they feel let down by the Vast Network for how relevant it is to either gameplay or interesting stories. I’d feel worse for the folks who took the Long-Dead Priests as their reward but from what little I can tell for most people who went that route the real reward was being able to get some pre-emptive payback for Mr. Eaten anyway so they seem content on that front.
We really need more ways of getting Scintillack Snuff, currently (Outside of the FotZ Festival) you can only get it if you picked the right route when going to Jericho or from a rare success when voting a dividend among shareholders.
You can research the recipe in your lab, and then just manufacture your own at will.
In order to research the recipe to make more you actually need a sample of the Snuff (not just a Knob of Scintillack) to begin with. The only ways of getting the first bit of Snuff involve either of the two options I mentioned (Going through the Marshes to Jericho post-Discovery and getting a Rare Success when Voting Dividends).
It was the same with Railway Steel and Perfumed Gunpowder.

The Jericho route source did clearly state that it would give you Scintillack Snuff, and that it was quite difficult to obtain any other way. It would be nice if there were more misclick-protection, but it’s not as if it wasn’t signposted that that was clearly the option you should take. The existence of the rare success does mean that you can still get it even if you misclicked on your way to Jericho, which is more forgiving than some other things.
I think it only said it would give you a valuable item - it didn’t specify snuff. Plus, at that point, we didn’t know where would be the uses for snuff that were later implemented.
If you’ve your final Watchful Gains from Spices, you can now “loan” Transportations and remove the opportunity card from you deck. Currently includes the Velocipede, Ratwork Velocipede, Respectable Landau, and Clay Sedan Chair.
You can also get them back via Parabola, if you are so inclined.

You can manufacture Consignments of Scintillack Snuff. But doing that requires that you have at least 8 Knobs of Scintillack, and it does not let you manufacture Knobs of Scintallack themselves. You need to find Knobs elsewhere–in the Waswood, or along the shore when you dig using an Upper River Opportunity card.

Or by selling skeletons to the interesting zailor, or graduating shifty students, or flogging Fillip of Effervescence, or several other ways. If you’ve got a lab, at least the first two of those are guaranteed to be available.
To take a not-random example, one of the alternatives at that stage gives you an item that is literally otherwise only available for real-world money. I (tired? ill? don’t remember why not) didn’t notice the very small but extremely important difference in the text, only discovered this afterwards, and am still a little bit real-world salty about my lack of neathy salt.
Knobs of Scintilac from the Zailor is one of the X times Y payouts, and he’s the only one whose regular payout is warm amber. If you’ve ever found yourself in need of warm amber to make something amalgamous, you’re likely swimming in scintilac.
…maybe I’m missing a big spoiler from not having grinded Watchful 218 yet, but it seems somehow mysterious to me this ability is gated at (currently assumed) peak Watchful. "You must be THIS smart to figure out yes, you can loan out vehicles"
It makes sense in context. It’s more that, at 215 Watchful, you meet someone who’s really interested in borrowing vehicles.
