Gives a night whisper and the Bishop’s Good Book.

The relevant ending from the Deacon as well (gives some society renown).

Here’s the echo for using the ticket.

You just get a little Scandal. It doesn’t take the ticket.

Echos of what happens if you speak with the Chandler yourself.

From an OoC position, I find it hilarious that:
the Lucifer stand-in ultimately regrets rebelling and fleeing to Parabola and becoming part of the Is Not. And that the other demons are trying to prevent him from leaving Hell.

It looks like the war between the Hell factions was about whether to leave Hell and (try to) go back to where-ever it was the devils originally came from. And the faction that wanted to leave Hell lost.
My character likes messing with the Devils more then they like helping the Church (although they don’t mind doing that either), so they left the Condotierre alive and made sure the Church canonized the Chandler. At least my character now knows what to do if they get the Location of a One-Time Prince of Hell…

As for the Deacon, it looks like letting him talk to the Chandler is what gives him the most chance to side with Hell. He was in the middle in mine and while he did leave the Church, it wasn’t to join Hell’s faction, but to go stay with his brother, now that he knew some of what his brother had been though.

Wait. The storylet called “Dues to the Dead” refers to the “blond of the Deacon’s hair”. Then why does the artwork depict the Deacon as dark-haired?

That’s interesting. I covered up the truth myself, but got a different ending from the Deacon (Bohemian renown). Here’s the echo.

I absolutely love this story. Fantastic writing and characterization!

Link to Deacon ending (high yearning, Great Game renown - it seems to relate to the highest renown you have?):

Well the reveal of the Lucifer expy rather buggers up my theory that he was the Capering Relicker.

How did you get this ending for the fete? I only seem to have two options for the ending.

You have to explore the battlefields in hell and risk breaking your cover. If you do it right, your cover won’t be broken.

Crap. Ah well, thanks.

Regarding endings, looks like we have:

Reveal the truth: Primeval Hint
If Deacon loyal, Church Renown; if tempted, Hell Renown

Cover up: Night-Whisper
If Deacon loyal, Society Renown; if tempted, Bohemians Renown

Alternative fete: Airag
If Deacon loyal, Church Renown; if tempted, Great Game Renown Renown

Whether you seduce him seems to change the ending text but not the results.

For the alternative fete, my tempted Deacon got the Hell ending, but I don’t remember getting Renown of any kind. Maybe I just missed it. Material reward was an Airag.

I got church renown with the alternative fete, but I’m not sure whether the Deacon was tempted or not in my case.

Edit: He wound up joining the military though, if that implies he was tempted.

Anyone know what happens for the missing endings?

As someone who isn’t Exceptional, I can only guess that the Tempted Renown for the Alternative Fete is the Revolutionaries.

After all, Temptation provides Renown with the factions that can connect to Parabola…and also each of the other tempted choices is for a faction the complete inverse of the loyal faction (Church/Hell, Society/Bohemians) so it makes some kind of sense.

I can at least say with certainty that I didn’t gain any Revolutionaries Renown for the Alternative/Tempted ending. (It would have leveled me up)

The Alternative Fete/Deacon Loyal ending gets you church renown.
In case you were lovers, you also get a broken heart as he joins the army.

I stupidly forgot to record the echo for it, but my deacon joined the army and I got church renown. Nothing about a broken heart for me because I didn’t seduce him on the train.

I told the bishop about the alternative path.

Looking over the Echoes here, I do regret letting the Deacon do the channeling thing as it would have been more interesting, if opaque, for me to have done it myself.

I think the story was good, though if I had made different choices I’d have felt much more involved than I did. :)

Also, I’m playing on the Beta site and the banner artwork for the journey through Hell was EXTREMELY interesting. I saved it for future reference.

My main gripe, quite frankly, is the very poor editing in this story. The numerous typos take you right out of it. Someone should really do another proof-read of all the storylets.

Actually, yeah, there were quite a few typos. Not enough to break my suspension of disbelief but I can’t recall seeing any in previous ESs.

I feel like there’s one on almost every other page. A misspelled word here, an extra quotation mark there, and plenty of missing periods. For a game that lives off its writing, it’s a bit shoddy.
