Seeking Mr Eaten's name

So it’d have to be a place that someone with 7 candles could get into, so presumably not the nightmare carnival (I don’t think you can go back). Is there anywhere that having 7 candles locks off? If so, that could be excluded.

Fun fact. Kept my poor dedicated Seeking alt around to find out about the tattoo. Completely forgot it has been obscured. Can’t even open the door to the parlour.

Well, obviously you need to be a Paramount Presence in order to get the tattoo. It’s elementary.

And in the very slim chance that this doesn’t work (though why wouldn’t it?), adding 50 Fabulous Diamonds and 7 heptagoats will definitely do the trick. Surely.

The Nadir seems like the most obvious place to check for the tattoo. That’s where Not-Lilac was after all, and the irrigo makes many impossibilities possible.

Unless going NORTH now gives the tattoo, but I doubt that.

I sent Minimum Viable Seeker into the Nadir after I realize that it couldn’t access the Tattoo parlor. No dice. Or at least, no dice for an obscured character within the number of cards it was able to draw.

Getting Beau’s won’t nuke my notability if I chose to give up my connections, right? I do want to make certain, because it would be very unfortunate if I lose my last few weeks of progress.

I don’t think so, and the wiki agrees.

I had the conversation with Lilac in the parlour, spent my ten actions on nothing, thought about it a bit, and went into the Nadir. Nuthin’. And I’m not Obscured, either, so that seems to settle that question.

(If anyone else has a suggestion I am all ears.)

Yeah, I was holding off on going North until Millicent showed up, in case I could get a tattoo… Nothing from her, as you already said, then I went North and got my Knock, nothing else there either.

I just assumed she meant that I wouldn’t find the Name with her, and what she was implying was that I’d have to go North. But I’m still really curious about the whole tattoo thing, since it was such an important part of the Torment destiny… Unless that part is clarified for people who actually went past the Gate.

Alexis has already explicitly stated that the Torment destiny is not a real thing. You can’t get the tattoo and experience what you see in Torment.

Not-Lilac also explicitly states that you can’t get such a tattoo.

I want to know why Failbetter added the Name as a possible tattoo value if it’s not possible lore-wise, and seemingly not mechanically possible either. I’d like to hunt for hidden options, but I’m nowhere close.

Next we’ll be looking for a Paramount Presence tattoo and a Mr Eaten’s Name PoSI specialization :P

Alexis was working pretty quickly when he was finishing up Seeking. He may have just added the value thinking he’d use it and forgotten to remove it. We may never know.

Has anyone tried going to the Chapel of Lights to see if they can get the tattoo?

I would be eligible for this, but it would mean spending fifty fate, and that’s a high price for something that may or may not be implemented. I know it’s out of character but it would be awesome to get even a hint from the Devs if this is something to pursue. I spent 100 fate in Flute Street, and feel that was worth it–there was a lot of stuff behind that paywall. But 50 fate for an apologetic refusal… no.

Admittedly, it’s at least partly my own fault for getting tattoos in the past, and not thinking I might want to go seeking some day.

It might be that the Tattoo requires Obscurity so that filthy little cheaters like me can’t do it…but I have a feeling this was added in the same manner as The Great Work. If it wasn’t, I will be displeased; I have used my second tattoo slot, and I’d rather not pay for something that ought to have been free.

The Great Work tattoo was added as a value but the option was never completed. Iirc someone datamined the result text and it just says something to the effect of “this is not yet implemented”.

On the last page, An Individual commented that you can’t get a tat at all if you have Obscurity, so that’s definitely out.

I do not have Obscurity but do have access to the Chapel of Lights, so I’m willing to experiment. (Without much hope of success. North means North means North; anyone who’s earned all the candles is essentially just faffing around until they make final preparations, as Lilac points out.) And besides, mechanically I can’t imagine being tattooed at the Chapel. It just doesn’t make sense.

Still. I will make the Zee voyage later this week.

The deed is done… again. Minimum Viable Seeker has served it’s purpose. It asked about Salt and was unceremoniously dumped in a well.

This is the second character I have consigned to the beyond. I have Grieved and asked about Salt, but Hating is still a mystery to me. If anyone would like to share, and be shared with in return, please send me a PM.

In the interests of science, I did go to the Chapel of Lights one last time.

Nothing nothing nothing. No tattoo for the Seeker.

Thanks for checking, Teaspoon. Sounds like maybe there was, at some point, a plan to have this go somewhere. Maybe it will go somewhere some day. I can’t wait forever to get that tattoo–a reckoning cannot be postponed for future updates.

Did anyone check what happens if you zail the river of blood after checking both in in the Nadir and the Chapel of Lights?
