Question: is the Salt option going to be meaningful if you haven’t played Sunless Sea? I was planning to Grieve because it’s much more in character for me, but I’ve missed all the SS lore.
And congratulations on your forthcoming gig! That’s amazing.
That was one of the most fantastic memoirs I’ve read in my entire life. Thank you so much for keeping me up past midnight tonight. And congrats congrats congRATS on the FBG position.
This is probably of interest to the sorts hanging around this thread; a giant memoir I wrote containing four years of Seeking, complete with Words, Pictures and At Least One Gif.
(there’s also a slightly-wonky version on Tumblr if you want to show how hip with the times you are by reblogging it or whatever they do these days)
Finally read the whole thing. Wonderfully written, with lots of nostalgic moments for old Seekers (I remember your stream when Alexis pranked you. Good times :-) )
I managed to forget that you wrote on the IRC re your move to FBG. This makes the whole journey even more symbolic (an end of a long journey to your character, new role for you as the player).
Speaking of options requiring an exact number: Does the option to get the Calling Card require having the exact number of needed Proscribed Materials, or is it OK to have more than that?
Read through most of it this morning. Good stuff - I do particularly enjoy your tone and sense of humor.
Congratulations on the position! Also, thank you for maintaining the Tumblr for as long as you have. Your stuff and NiteBrite’s stuff have been immensely informative and entertaining for the past few years. edited by Stygota on 6/30/2016
So I’ve restarted seeking and previously had it at 7 from a few years ago, but I’m unsure how I progress from here. I previously was working towards 7 stains/scars/chains, is that still a thing?
Most of the progress will be via The Seeking Road storylet in your lodgings. You can increase your SMEN level by spending more and more resources (at worse and worse odds). Be careful, as some of these options are completely disproportionately expensive.
At the proper SMEN levels, more options will open (such as getting stains/scars/chains, etc.).
You can also gain a SMEN level by special options on new menace cards which appear if you have Unaccountably Peckish, but you can only use these options once a week.
My alt is slowly, painfully clawing it’s way toward Seeking 27. So I’ve been starting to prepare it for St. Cerise’s Candle. It has a goat, and I was mentally preparing myself to chuck it down a well when I realized that one of the benefits of the account spending the last year(ish) doing nothing but collecting Tales of Terror and Eyeless Skulls to no particular end was that it’s been hoarding Trade Secrets. 10 of them, to be precise. So I did some searching and it looks like the best plan here is to get Short Story potential to 84 and then burn them all to get a 100% check on creating a Classic Short Story. Which seems insane. A dedicated end game account could farm enough money for another goat faster than it could farm 10 Trade Secrets. But I already have enough Enigmas to do what must be done and I don’t have anything else to do with them. This seems right, but it feels weird. Fortunately, not as weird as throwing a goat down a well.
I just realized I can kick the Amanuensis out, which is going to be awesome. What other things do people generally avoid doing because they’re long-term unwise but would be fun?
Schedule a party date where you invite all of your friends, forums or otherwise, to say their goodbyes with a shower of rats. Make a special thread for it, post about it on social media, dare people to send you rats. Say you doubt they could even send that many in just one day. Laugh madly as your account rapidly becomes buried in rats. Scream to the heavens that it’s not enough rats. It will never be enough. Then give thanks to friends past and present and nyoom off into the Zee.
