Seeking Mr Eaten's name

I had an odd idea, but I’m not sure if it would be helpful or not. I have a character that I am going to begin Seeking with. This decision is already made, but will take a while to implement. Upon reaching SMEN 28 she could start manufacturing Calling cards so others could jump ahead. It would be slow work, but my biggest concern would be lessening the sense of complicity (using FBGs definition) in those who asked for them. SMEN is not something that, thematically, needs easing or trivializing. Anyone insufficiently dedicated to their own self-destruction is probably not very engaged in the storyline. And that’s not even taking into account the loss of fun text and lore that would be missed by such rapid advancement.

I’m leaning against it, but am convincable. If anyone has any opinion on this then please say so.
probably should, for optimal usage, gather candles at lv. 25- arthur for 26, beau for 27, cerise for 28, incubatula for 29.
Excellent point, duly noted in spreadsheet.

Anything that would actually ease my way in Seeking would be a delight. Does the calling card actually give you an advantage though, other than not having to buy it yourself?

From what I’ve read upthread, it can be used at level 21 to skip about 7 levels of grinding, including the need for candles.

Given the amount of time or resources necessary for reaching even SMEN 21, the amount of grinding on Winking Isle necessary from then on, and the sheer amount of sacrifice necessary for later steps. To me it sounds like an excellent idea - shortening one of the grindy bits slightly so people can get to the more interesting and more painful parts sooner.

Plus there’s always that success we haven’t seen…

Is there still a nightmare carnival with a wheel that can destroy you?

The Forgotten Quarter is safe if you don’t have a contract, I went there by accident on my way to the sidestreets after getting Beau’s.

Or at least, it’s not 100% guaranteed to trigger the Infernal Hunt.

There is a Nightmare Carnival, and a wheel. It will not destroy you, just waste an excessive amount of Fate and give you a quality called Scorched by the Sun.

How much fate are we talking? So long as it doesn’t cost a prince’s ransom, I’ll gladly throw some fate away for something pointless.

It was 50 Fate back before the revision. I haven’t seen it post-revision, but I would expect it to remain the same.

Someone took a screenshot. I believe it’s 40 Fate now.

I think when I did it, way back in the day, it was 50 fate. So kind of a lot.

[edit: It being the carnival, not the ride. I think only NiteBrite was foolish enough to become sun-scorched.]

Ah, so a bit cheaper now.

I believe it was NiteBrite plus two others.

Indeed; NiteBrite was not the first to get Sun-Scorched.

NiteBrite was the second. The first was Mac Trilby and the third was Victor Gulenko.

Screenshot for the Carnival from a few days ago (which I just double-checked) says 50 Fate. Unless the storylet was updated since then.

(It’s 40 Fate to get a certain associated candle without giving up worse but free things.)

I found a thing: http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/vswest

Has anyone done the Hate option on the Question?

Or not all of them? I thought getting all the candles was absolutely mandatory…
