Seeking Mr Eaten's name

But then you can’t throw her down the well :(

…wait, you’re, you’re not going to throw a Goat down there? You monster!

:D

Or it might be obtainable if you try to go to winking island without an answer. I mean, that is a thing you can do with a good ally or support network.[/quote]
…that’s a good thought. We should try it sometime.

I’m sure if no one does it before me, my plan will ensure someone does it. At step 3, it wouldn’t be much to ask of them.

Maybe…Could it have to do with that &quotAn Intimation&quot Ambition:Enigma option? It probably doesn’t, but then, we don’t know what Grieve and Hate do themselves. If it only gives different text, it might be possible.

No. I wish that I could afford a goat.

I plan on throwing down a Classic Short Story. I’m very close to getting my 4th Trade Secret. I’ll have it well before I’m ready for that step.

Well, I finally realised that Arensen (and scarily enough, myself too) is the literal definition of the kind of character who would seek, and although I’m only at SMEN 6, I do have a Classic Short Story which I could dunk in the well when I get that far. What level of SMEN does it need?

27, with two candles.

Each candle traditionally provides 1 level SMEN, but as at lv.29 you can unlock the winking isle- which is when seeking starts looking really really absurdly expensive otherwise- you should gather the candles you have access to (Arthur, Beau, Cerise) prior to that point.

As at lv.28 you have a relatively cheap option to level up seeking- 87.5 echoes in incubatula- you probably should, for optimal usage, gather candles at lv. 25- arthur for 26, beau for 27, cerise for 28, incubatula for 29.

There’s also Light a Taper, which will give you two whole points for some stuff you’ll be selling off anyway.

I got Arthur (and BOOM) at 21 so I’m at 23 now. My plan is to wait for TtH and marsh-mire to 24, get Beau to take me to 25, light a taper to get 27, get Cerise for 28, spend incunabulum for 29, and then it’s time to start fasting and meditating.

Yeah, but even assuming you actually have all the items, it’s two points for 4700 echoes- and if you’re lacking any one of them, it could- no, is- be far nastier, as they do have aquisition costs, and ones higher than their sell-price. most notorious, the impossible theorem costs over 3062 echoes, assuming nothing goes wrong.

Yeah, the theorem takes more than triple the enigmas its worth. It seems to me that Seeking this time around wants you to have three things; An Ubergoat, an Extraordinary Mind, and patience if you want to use the most efficient options like a Classical Shortstory down the well.
edit Whoops, got the theorem mixed up with the 77 Enigmas that used to show on God’s Editors.

Not actually true. It wants us to have one of those things, minimum. Patience is believed to be capable of getting you all the way to 27, even if the early levels weren’t easy. sure, that’s up to 8 months to do it using peckish alone, but seeking wasn’t supposed to be easy.

Hitting lv. 12 is within any player who’s played everything else they’re interested in to the content boundary’s abilities, and if you can convince someone to give you a calling card (not viable now, but will be someday) then you can go to winking isle, which, while time consuming, mostly just requires not having whatever it is. For someone who gets supported with a calling card, and has a watchful of a mere 200 with gear, you’ll need less than 2000 echoes, on average, to get to the isle, by outright buying the clues! For someone with no overcapping, and the watchful total of 266, you can get to the 12 with 1500 echoes- less than a fluke core.

The theorem doesn’t even cost double the enigmas. It’s worth 25 enigmas and costs 49.[li]

…I have achieved the Second. Beau. On the day the Gate was first opened…[li]

Does anyone know if that event with the devils in the Forgotten Quarter still exists/what exactly causes it to trigger (i.e. selling a stained soul or just having it stained at all)? I’m just about at the point where my soul can become Stained, but I’m still trying to grind to Melancholy 12 at the Cave of the Nadir.

I believe it only happens if you have stains and your own infernal contract (which means you sold your soul at Hallowmass, usually). I’d wait for someone more certain of their answer to confirm that, though.

Also! Hit SMEN 24 and I’m currently mapping the carnival to the best of my ability (not quite reckless enough to see if scorched by the sun is still a thing or not). I should have Beau as soon as I succeed at watching this damn chess match.

Selling stained souls is the only way to do it- and some devils will catch it and save you from the suffering, or at least used to. (The only one used to be selling it at Hallowmass, but idk if that’s still the case.)

Thanks! Though I suppose even if the event did occur it wouldn’t be too terrible, at least relative to the rest of this quest, since I have yet to obtain a candle.

wait, what? it zeroes connected hell, removes all infernal items, and 4 types of 312.5 echo items, alongside all money. Are you thinking about the candle one? that is by having a rat of glory with a seeker’s candle.

Whoops, nevermind! I thought it also took Saint’s Candles for whatever reason. Didn’t know it takes all your money, though, that’s really the only thing on the list I’d mind losing.

To clarify, the Infernal Hunt MUST event isn’t completely understood, but the general theory is it occurs whenever you enter the Quarter with any Stains, Your Own Infernal Contract, and no Searching for your Soul (or whatever the fate-locked storyline is called). This is only possible by selling your soul at Hallowmas as all other options require no Stains.

The requirements may well have changed, however. On the day SMEN returned someone encountered it with the expected requirements, but I’ve heard Stains no longer remove your soul. As such they don’t put you on Searching for your Soul and those with that quality may no longer be safe.
