Pain Points, Pet Peeves (Presented Politely!)

Over the course of the game, I encountered things that are mildly frustrating: something - likely fixable by browser extensions, or related to balance decisions, or personal preferences after all. Again, and again, they return to haunt me.

I know that feedback email exists, and used it many times, but FBG are busy and have their priorities. This topic is not to blame them. It is to not feel alone.

A small later edit to clarify once again: I do use the standard feedback emails, and they reacted for many, many other things! Some of them were outright fixed based on my emails, for which I am thankful. For these ones though: I might be forgetful, but some of the points, when written out there, didn’t even get a standard ‘Yes, we’ve read it, will add it to our list for considerations, no promises.’

Yet, by all means, this is no replacement from the standard feedback e-mail. Please write one first if you didn’t already.

Spoilers will happen there.

My top 3 (but actually four!) is:

  • Marigold navigation: it is a single place where you could have one-click Headless Skeleton, but getting there is a maze about 8 clicks long. Going around there is simply not fun.

  • The game has an inherent limit of 200 social contacts you can hold. If you accidentally go over it… nothing happens. The action you wanted to do will just silently fail. Also, when you will try to delete your excess/forgotten contacts, they are unordered, plus it is really hard to see if they are after all your Acquaintances, Patrons or Protege which you would prefer to keep.

  • You can blast your railway link. Easily. If you are groggily going through your Tracklayer City, chances are that you will click to this option: it has a Hillmover icon, and a standard dual requirement of Tracklayer City. Enjoy your ~250 echo loss with a sprinkle of complicated rebuild process on top. Why not hide it among Tracklayer’s City storylets instead?

  • There is no option to quickly burn your actions with any decent efficiency which would be very welcome on a slow/sporadic internet connection. Unfinished Business options are deliberately horrific: of course I won’t ask for any full efficiency, but at least a half? 12.5 echo from a truly endgame option which costs 5 actions, please?

Feel free to add your own notes.

It would be really, really great if we could search text in the Journals. The only way to find something specific is to remember when exactly you saved it, which isn’t exactly easy to keep track of.

Searching the journal, or being able to export it, would be great!

I’m terrified that I might groggily sell my submarine. Again. So, I can understand about blowing up the rail link. Maybe both of those things deserve an extra, “are you really, really sure?”

I think marigold has to be the way it is because grabbing whichever 4th tier item isn’t the only option that could be present. It could be done differently, but I think it would likely be ugly if not unwieldy.

As for burning actions, I again share your peeve. For me though it’s usually, “I can’t keep my eyes open, but I want these turns to go to something.” I’ve been sending my villains to do some casing. I don’t think the payout is any better than unfinished business, but it doesn’t really matter.

On busy RL work days, I tend to spend 10 actions selling one of my many accumulated Trade Secrets.

And re. the journals: stopped using it years ago due to the inaccessibility. I save crucial text offline (mainly ES stories, including a key to identify unused branches so a replay can be different).
