You’ve lost 237 x Noman’s Friend.
Almost there, people!
Congratulations to @shaerys already as TtH passed!
Thanks, @skinnyman! Though it ain’t over 'til the noman melts, as the proverb goes. I’m on travel and unusually playing by mobile, so you may yet see me show up on “Worst luck and/or misclicks you’ve had?” absent a successful cul(inary)mination!
I am hoping for a reply here! ![]()

You’ve lost 242 x Noman’s Friend.
Last one I think, though I could probably survive a couple more TtHs with 818 currently remaining. All weekly losses in expected ranges, no surprises. Total NF loss was 2429. Total spend was 132 pails and 105 tears to bring me up to a very generous ~3200 initial.

It’s been a fun journey! This year marked my tenth consecutive Gant Tattoo on each of these characters, and the first time I got Memory of a Doubled Spring. I’ll be continuing to get the Gant Tattoo each year, since I have gotten it (I believe) every year it’s been available since the start, and it would be a shame to break the streak, but I’m happy to leave MoaDS as a singular accomplishment.

You’ve lost 263 x Noman’s Friend (new total 54 - A little time remains to the Noman).
One year later, one more sacrificed sNoChild.
Five more and it will be done.
So, who’s going for Noman this year?
I’m currently sitting on a pile of 141 Tears (plus more to come from the Rat Market this weekend), and enough Whispers and Threnodies for 161 Pails, so I’m obviously aiming for Doubled Spring.
Starting on Monday, I’ll be flipping cards and grinding Notability all day to buy all those Pails.
What’s your Noman objective?
Prolly nothing this year, I’m nowhere close to getting it to the Feast.
So I just won’t bother this year and keep my ToL for next year.
I’m doing my first attempt this year. My last years Noman - let’s say he had another purpose…
I actually am short some of the tears I intended to be sitting at 126 at the moment, but there’s still next weekend. My pail material is enough for 140-something, but I can push that up converting wild words, need be.
I am going for Memory of a Doubled Spring. I am currently sitting at 178 Tears and enough resources to buy 193 Pails of “Snow”. This is probably quite the overkill, but I am really worried about getting very unlucky with my rolls. I might not use all of these resources. I hope. It’s so expensive…
Last year Doubled Spring was out of my reach because of a lack of Storm Threnodies. I spent a lot of time this past year miser-herding in Zenith, and have the materials for 120 pails now. Hopefully this weekend I’ll run some numbers about variance, but my impression is that the larger volume means the disaster planning is far less necessary compared to going for the tattoo.
My understanding from a bit of wiki examination, is that extra pails are less of an obstacle than extra tears (since each conversation always takes 1 pail and produces the same amount of Noman melt) and that the main obstacle is drawing the Noman card the ~80 times required to turn in conversions before it times out.
Am I missing something regarding pails utility (it gets the first point of putting the pieces and then I use tears to grind up to 11 and turn in)? Additionally, would a Woesel be useful for drawing the Noman or does it exclude it? (It doesn’t appear to on the wiki but I don’t want to waste drawable cards in January if I’m missing a hidden interaction.
There are several obstacles that are notable enough to each qualify as the “main” challenge of most other grinds. The Tears is the most expensive. I just had happened to grind enough Tears last year, but only stumbled upon the Threnody requirement when it was too late to do anything about it.
In addition to the materials of Tears, Night Whispers, and Threnodies, you need to draw the Urchin card once per Pail which is prohibitive unless you have very good BDR. Plus drawing the Norman card in January.
Makes sense. I more meant that once you’ve got the required amount Pails (calculates at about 80-85) I can’t see an advantage on having extra, while tears can always trip you up via bad luck. That being said I had totally forgotten the need for BDR.
Having surplus Pails can patch up bad tears luck (and misclicks and stupidity and brain farts). You can still get ToL from Pails without Tears (at a fairly horrible rate overall). I suppose just stacking 4th City echo and going overboard on tears weekends on the rat market is a much more sensible solution, but I am not known for my sensibility… Once December hits I won’t be able to get extra tears but I can get extra Pails.
If you run out of Storm Threnodies during December, I don’t think you’ll have much time to get more from upconversions, because you’ll be limited by the availability of Urchin Favours.
That’s a good point. Good thing I probably won’t want more than I already have.
Ended up on 146 Tears, which looks like enough with average bad luck.
I’m going for the Noman for the first time ever despite having been playing for a very long time. Hoping to get both the tattoo and the Doubled Spring. I’ve got 126 pails’ worth and 192 Tears. Fingers crossed I’ve understood everything correctly and don’t have insane bad luck!
