Jericho Locks

As happy as I am to have a steady source of upper river rumours, I have to wonder – now that we have the option to talk to the archaeologist in the pub, it seems to me that an enormous amount of card options are suddenly completely obsolete, and a large number of the cards themselves have been made close to useless as well.

Also, can you build statues of yourself at both Ealing and Jericho? Will we be able to have statues of ourselves at every station?

That might depend upon your qualities. I built a statue of myself at Ealing, honoring myself as Poet Laureate, and was offered the chance to build a statue of myself at Jericho as Scholar of the Correspondence. (I have not taken the game up on that opportunity, nor do I plan to).

Obviously you need to fulfil the conditions, yeah, but assuming that – there’s nothing (short of a modicum of modesty) to prevent one from erecting multiple statues of oneself?

It just tells gives you the &quotHonoured with a Statue - Multiply Honoured&quot status, the same as what you get for doing the Jack case multiple times. I’ve got two (or three?) statues of me in London, one in Ealing, and one in Jericho now.

Upon taking a barge to the lower rivers, is it just the RNG that determines what location you land at, or is there some quality you need? I’ve gone three times and gotten to the same place each time.

In general, there are a total of 6 different discoveries that can be found at Jericho Locks: 2 found at the lower river, 3 found at the upper river, and the Sere Palace after finishing the Gondolier’s tour. It should be noted that RNG decides where you go, so if you are very unlucky, you will keep going to the same location over and over again instead of getting new discoveries.

The benefit is that once you discover all 6 areas and give all the reports to the Doleful Poleman, you will become a Doctore of the Guild and have the ability to choose which of the 5 discoveries (not Sere Palace) you wish to visit at a 40% discounted price, assuming you have Esteem.

The discoveries can also unlock new options on cards. If you have the pub, you get an Option on the smuggling card to get the steel needed for railroads.

What a frustrating system! I’ve also done the lower rivers three times and gotten the same result every time. 62.5 echoes and ~7 actions is a lot to spend with no indication of why I’m getting nothing for my trouble.

I’m just here to scream in frustration (at myself I mean) that it took me THIS LONG to figure out the gondolier locations are randomised and I only have 10 HOURS OR SO to rack up enough Collated Research to start debates and get enough esteem to go check out the other locations and learn more about the mysterious fella who’s apparently burdened the Bazaar with debt.

I had a suspicion that it is randomized, because there was the &quotWaters of Jericho&quot quality that is not entirely visible to the player.

After I spent Esteem on the same barge option, I can confirm that it is randomized.

What do you mean by only 10 hours? Is anything here timed?

Oh no I just mean-I like to be on schedule for new content being released, and I live in a timezone sufficiently different from most here that from my point of view the opportunity to build new tracks will be released later tonight. Barely got my Cartographer’s Hoard in time for what promises to be the more fun option for it, too.

Edit: Wow, the RNG was merciful. Only went to the same place twice, leveled up my gondolier standing enough to steer my own boat and had the chat with the Commissioner. Now to fret over whether I have enough biscuits, wine, pies and whatnot to supply the workers later today for me when it’s railroad building time.

Agreed totally. Four times Persephone in a row. This sort of RNG-dependence is extremely frustrating considering the high and specific material costs…

Also, a question - is there any way to reduce Darkness in Jericho Locks? In Ealing we have the Watchtower, but I haven’t seen anything here.

For now, I don’t think so.

Heh. Kind of envy you. I’ve taken the 5 esteem option at least 6 times now, every time with the same effect. Definitely hope this won’t happen with the Octagonal Tomb (last one I need for the 10 Esteem ones).

Oh wow, if you fail the mithridacy check while swapping tales with the locals in The Arborist’s Hands, you lose your Night on the Town (but not your gossip) and gain only some scandal. I hope that’s a bug, as it’s a rather harsh penalty…

I’m happiest that I built the gift shop at Jericho Locks as a very specific set of circumstances allow it to be the best area in the game for me to get Hinterland Scrip right now. You can sell an Infernal Sharp Shooter’s Rifle at the gift shop and it gives 450 scrip at max train luxury. I can make the rifle at my lab by getting 26-30 research an action by combining Lettice and the Smith from the Nemesis Ambition which means getting a rifle takes 63-70 actions.

This ultimately means I’m getting around 6.4 to 7.1 scrip per action. I’m not sure if Bone Market shenanigans can get more right now, but this is the simplest method for me so far.

Does the reformed protester and lettice allow you to replicate this grind?

I tried with the Reformed Protester and he does not. From a purely gameplay standpoint, the Smith from Nemesis is mechanically better in every way, which I’m thankful for as Nemesis has so far gotten fewer rewards than the other Ambitions.
