Irem of the Pillars, and the Finale of Evolution

Hello, I was just reading through all of the posts when I noticed that you mentioned getting into the predicament of raising all three of the Naturalist’s stats way above the levels needed to where the options to pick a destiny are blocked. I have found myself in the exact same situation and for the last day I have been stuck going in circles and unable to move on in this story. I have tried reading through every post, reddit thread, and anything on the wiki about the subject, but I am just stuck. Is there any advice you could offer? I would appreciate any help, Thank You.

Some of the cards in the futures there decrease those qualities - the best option I can see find is to pick which cards among the various locations decrease the three stats (I think the locations are Category:Cards - A Forking Future - Fallen London Wiki , Category:Cards - A Mortal Future - Fallen London Wiki , Category:Cards - A Vivisected Future - Fallen London Wiki , and Category:Cards - A Manifold Future - Fallen London Wiki )? And jus play those cards and those cards alone.

It’s probably also worth a bug report to FBG, because that seems like a very unpleasant fail state that is not easy to get out of. Maybe they should put in a button to reset all three of the qualities to 0 or something.

I will second what has been said in that I, too, am interested in the Justice and Mask Destinies before I take a headlong jump into my own future.

I have also really been enjoying Irem, both in terms of mechanics and in terms of lore dive! So many hints, and so many answers! That of course lead to even more questions, as is expected.

This person here chose the Justice Destiny.

I’m also interested in the Mask and the World, if any of you Delightful Friends would be willing to share.

Otherwise, I collected an echo of all the others.

Judgement, but that echo has been posted since. Minus one cat, apparently :(

Ill put my hand down and also ask for a The World if echo if anyone has it.

It’s not mine but I found this one trawling through other profiles, which I think is the world (it matches the fragments on the wiki)

Almost unambiguously cheery, compared to the rest. Thank you!

Positively cheery compared to the one I picked that appears to be destroying the universe!

It’s me once again. still haven’t made a choice.
quick question that I didn’t really understand from the echoes - does choosing the wheel of fortune mean death is actually free or enslaved by the naturalist?

In my reading, the being rowing the boat clearly identifies himself as your erstwhile companion. Based on this, I believe the original Boatman is no longer bound to his boat and is now free. The Naturalist has inherited his position, powers, and duties the same as if the Boatman were replaced Hierophantly, but retains some of his own identity.

I must say, Ostzee is such a delicious pun.

As Rush sang, “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”

Since we currently have the option to change Destinies, I went and recorded the Echo for The Mask :)

Thank you for that! I could have seen it for myself since we can swap advanced Destinies around a fair bit, except I’d already forgotten all about it…

You’ve probably done it already, but the idea I got from reading everything was that The Boatman will still be free with both hierophant and wheel, but he believes that his replacement is capable in hierophant, whilst he isn’t so sure in wheel

I’m utterly confused by Irem. The wiki doesnt help much either. I don’t know how to get to most of the stuff people are talking about and I don’t understand what’s happening. Finding this location utterly off-putting. Ive spent about 60 actions meandering around the carousel trying to see what it does without accidentally committing to anything and cutting myself out of any options and it just doesn’t make any sense to me.

In each location, you can draw three cards. Each one gives you two choices: one gets you various items, the other gives you a wrap.
There are three distinct sorts of wraps. Not all locations can give you every wrap. In fact, most don’t.
You navigate from one location future to another by spending wraps. It can be just one of one specific type, or multiple of the same, or multiple types in variable quantities.
You can’t go to any location from any other location, not even taking into account having the proper wrap(s) to actually play the transitional storylet, which is where the actual mechanics come into play: you can keep cards across locations, letting use wraps in a location where you couldn’t gain them in the first place.
The wiki tells you which location leads to which other locations, and how you can access them (how many of which wrap you need).
Some of those locations can also let you choose a new destiny as well, independently from everything else (although you still need to access the location in the first place).
This explanation is all over the place, but I hope it helps a little with understanding Irem…

Well, tarnation. I’m lost. I thought I had everything I needed to gain no future but it just won’t show up even though I thought I had all the requirements. The wiki is utterly incomprehensible, I’m down a load of actions and am currently saddled with a Destiny that isn’t my preference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have crossroads 7? You visit all “simple” futures to raise it to 6, after that you visit Neon future and use some option on one of local cards to raise it to 7. And after that you go for no future. You also need Immaterial Material and Steward of the Disco 5.

Also there is very comprehensive guide on wiki (Irem (Guide) - Fallen London Wiki)

Just wondering why everyone’s so keen on having no future…
