Based on my experiences in Parabola, I think it’s safe to say that UNLESS the check is at 80% or above, the percentiles for given options in the game are like the mathematics involved in studying the Discordance: An occasionally helpful delusion that doesn’t actually have anything to do with the subject matter at all.
Would any of you delightful friends have found a way to remove the Discordant Law one might have stumbled upon?
Ah, right after I post this message, I find the answer all by myself.
Well, I suggest to anyone in my position to seek the advice of the Steward of the Discordance.
The RNG has been killing me for weeks now on 60-70% chances - same kind of experiences as yours, and none tilted the other direction. And honestly, the whole Hurlers experience has just made me dazed and confused.
I did have some in the other direction – where I kept repeatedly succeeding on dig rolls of ~30% chance and getting other stuff instead of curios, so I had to keep going back to prepare more supplies. I hate this.
There is a reason the RNG gives us a peace offering during Sacksmas.
It’s because it’s the literal worst.
Hoping against hope, has anyone discovered the fabled means to raise Steward of the Discordance above 3 that apparently involves downgrading some other traits? Stumped where to go after “Nothing more to learn”, what’s that about getting seals from the castle that isn’t there?

Is there anyway to lower that massive 1000 Shadowy check for the vault?

I think so, or at least it depends at which point you are and what you mean.
I found a way to earn a couple more points of SotD over 3 (though not up to 4 yet, must be at 3.2, and I can’t remember where I got those points…), but I do not think this is what you mean.
You want to unlock Discordant Studies and start your training with the Steward of the Discordance.
From your statement, you already got a Discordant Law from reading the Stones, and the correct levels of Crystalline Knowledge (6).
From that point :
- (optional) go back to the Steward of Discordance to "Discuss the Discordant Law" to learn how you can remove this law
- Go to the Cave of the Nadir, in order to draw a super frequent card which will enable you to remove the law and unlock the Discordant Studies
- Go back to the Steward of Discordance to start this tortuous path
Anything beyond that should stay secret as requested by FBG.
I’m at this point and waiting for my candle to refresh before going further.
Hope this answers your question.

oh my god
I am sworn to secrecy of course, but to anyone else studying the ways of Discordance /is this what Seeking Mr. Eaten feels like/

I’m not terribly bothered by paying a hefty price in echoes or stat damage, but I’m still trying to avoid the boatman before I’ve got my cider for RP purposes. Would you happen to know if such a visit is required with no alternative?
You should hold off. I don’t know if these visits to the river are required per se, but they do seem to be leading somewhere. And they are not telegraphed or signposted.

Good to know. It strikes me that I would be significantly closer to that Cider if not for all these train stations, getting involved in parabolan warfare (and collecting Oneiropompic staves), and setting a great deal of currency on fire for absolutely no reason. I’m trying sit here and farm some Mammoths, but new content just keeps surging out.

…I must plead for a hint on the Second and Eigth Seals. I can’t seem to talk to the Caprine Vagabound about anything other than making more goats. Was taking on a new Discordant Law a mistake?
PM’ed.
I am DETERMINED to get a success on the Caveat Emptor option of the Don’t Perform Research card. Four failures so far on a ~20% chance, but I won’t stay in this damn castle flipping cards for as long as it doesn’t take.
Got it on my seventh try. Slightly underwhelming, but not altogether uninteresting. Definitely not viable from an earnings standpoint.

I would say this here: think twice about grinding up that Steward of the Discordance quality.
Thus far, I am relying on the "Game Instructions" statements to guide me, since most of the story text is just a headache-inducing mess of bullhonkey.
I do hope that these are not red herrings.
Also, black.png, black.png, black.png. Good grief.

To those who haven’t gotten very far deep into their Discordance studies and far ahead on this strange journey: I’d very much appreciate a certain letter, and would be happy to supply one in turn if nobody has gotten to a certain point too.
Am I correct in thinking that without Scholar Of The Correspondence at 15, progress at the Hurlers stalls out at a certain point?
Same here. But it begs the question of the chicken and the egg. How does the first one of us to reach this far managed to overcome this obstacle?
Hmm… Questions, questions…
