A damp fog fills London’s streets. Londoners of all stripes lurk in its concealment: masked, cloaked, triply hidden. It is the season of Hallowmas, of the commission and purging of sin. Londoners seek out the Attendants – the masked representatives of the Bazaar – to be shriven.
The end of October is upon us, and with it, another Hallowmas comes to Fallen London. Hallowmas is a free revel, open to all Londoners. This year, Hallowmas will run from today, the 28th October, until the 11th of November. After the festival closes on the 11th, you’ll be able to turn in confessions and claim rewards until the 18th.
Select a mask! Attend secretive balls around London. Speak with the Fool’s Apostate, and trade your Menaces for seasonal rewards. Collect confessions from London’s sinners, trade them with your friends, and confer with the Attendants to transform and upgrade your companions.
Argh, curses! The accomplice is on the docket this year, and yet only one of her upgrades! And it’s not the one I want! I’m ace and I really did want one of the only platonic spouses in the game. Ah, well. There’s always next year.
In my mind, the smart Londoner’s play is to pick up advanced skill companions first and foremost unless you’ve got a compelling RP reason otherwise (like my obsession with obtaining luggages, or my desire to platonically marry the Fabulous Accomplice who sadly isn’t available this year). I’d personally prioritise the Deathless Chieftain, since it’s a +2 and those don’t come around every day.
My plan is to get hold of the Shabti-Box (3), the Deathless Chieftain (3), the Staunch Comrades (2), the Empire of Hands on Deck (3) and the Palette of Revealing Pigments (2) - sadly, this means I waste a Confession, but such is life.
The Matriarch is the best non-advanced skill choice for your echoes, though; both monkeys are significantly outclassed by non-seasonal equipment, whereas the only thing that beats the cat is the Overgoat.
It also helps to have lots of favours from various factions stocked up. So you can just get into the masque directly at its location without needing to wait for the card.
Everytime I use a Knob of Scintillack to advance at St Elmo’s I die a little inside. Each Knob is worth 5 Scrips. I have a little over 1k Knobs, that’s at least 5k Scrips or 2.5% of a Hellworm’s price.
Also the opportunity cost of participating in Hallowmas = no actions spent on grinding for Scrips.
I do St Elmo’s this year as it’s the only one remaining not done by me. There’s not a very reliable way to pre-boost Suspicion so you take less actions to finish a masque carousel. Only think I can think of is the aftermath of a Heist, but that takes too many actions, not worth it.
But if you want to propel yourself high up the Knight of Hallowmas vanity totem pole, the other three masques/menaces are probably the better options to pre-boost your specific menace, take less actions, and gain a large amount of Spirit of Hallowmas.
Sadly there are very few items that increase Suspicion, it might be a good idea to go for acquiring Wings of Change in Zenith in order to maximise gains.
