The Moth costs resources, but has the greatest opportunity to increase Spirit (because of the large number of Nightmares reducing items, meaning fewer times in or out of the party). The Baby pays you 2.5 echoes to increase the associated menace with both the +7 change point and +1 change point options. The +5 change point option is free.
So unless you’re going for the highest possible Spirit, the Baby is better, because you’re still earning some amount of echoes, rather than paying for the opportunity to get nightmares.
Out of curiosity, isn’t anyone going hungry?
I don’t want Nightmares to be my Menace for the third year in a row, so I’ve mostly been attending Masques at St Elmo’s. 48 Masques, to 31 Nightmare Visits, 5 to Wounds, and a single accidental trip to the Mirror Marches. So not quite as hasty as your Hungry trip, unfortunately (Congrats!), but there’s still time and I’ve only lost 83 levels of Watchful.
Did you have Nightmare-reducing equipment on? The Mask doesn’t stop the Nightmares Menace from taking effect. If you change outfits with your Menace to high, you may find yourself on an unplanned vacation.
What other equipment do you have on? I’ve have some issues here. The game message of increase tells you your base, not your total, so if it says you have 7 and you have a plus item equipped, you auto-fire the story with 8. The mask makes no difference here.
Also I seem to have discovered a bug that sometimes it shows as +1 when I have +2? Not quite sure, so I’m not reporting it yet.
Thank you Tsar for exchanging a Guile for my Curiosity.
I still have two extra Curiosity confessions an an extra Pride confession. I need one more Violence and two more Guile. Whimsy is acceptable as it is only one step away from conversion to Guile.
I’m not sure why there are only a few names that I can initiate a Confession exchange with. Perhaps it’s better for others to initiate an exchange.

These general threads aren’t especially focused, but consensus is that social action requests are sectioned off to slightly de-clutter things.
…I have to ask, are people burning Fate like crazy or is there some meta to the masques I’ve completely overlooked while gathering suspicion by failing at Balmoral?
Wow, you went with Severed Head, gg! :)

…I have to ask, are people burning Fate like crazy or is there some meta to the masques I’ve completely overlooked while gathering suspicion by failing at Balmoral?
If you’ve progressed along the Seeking Road, there’s an option under Attract a Visitor regarding a certain candle which allows you to trade ~50CP of Watchful for +1 Wounds and +1-20 Nightmares. Quite often two actions gets you from 0->7; the efficiency can’t be matched, but the price is likely measured in weeks restoring one’s ravaged Watchful (I’ve dropped from 230 to 130; I expect Skinnyman hit 0). It occasionally pays out a Night-whisper, although the odds are quite poor.
I hit 0 on Wednesday and I need to make a plan on getting it back.
My intention was to use Hephaesta and make Cartographer’s because that option was better if you failed and yielded 0 menaces. With the lab reworks things changes. But that is something I need to take care next week.
Time to gain Spirit at a slower pace, try all possible Hallowmas options and slowly advance my railroad tracks.
I don’t think it’s possible to hit 3.5k Hallowmas Spirit as a non-Fate user, right? Unless you’re grinding Spirit for two weeks non-stop, and maybe sacrificing sleep.
It’s possible, I’ve been grinding in underclay and I’m pretty close (I stopped), if you’re seeking the name and are willing to sacrifice your watchful you can get there even faster

As someone from the non-Fate-for-Hallowmas grinding, mildly sleep-sacrificing school of grinding I can confirm that to date my efforts to use Balmoral for grinds have eked a paltry 1700 Spirit.

Mine was easy: sacrifice all Watchful and get to 7777 in less than 8 days. But elderfleur is doing great and last year someone over Reddit got to 7777 with few Fate things.
You don’t need to end your character to finish SMEN or even use this Hallowmas option. If the black border cards scare you, they are doing their job: introduction to a great story where things are drum-roll scary sometimes. I suggest you give it a go or at least check this great Wiki guide. If I persuaded you do look for the name, do the extra effort to get this unique and useless quality: The Sun beneath the Sea?. I regret not going that far and the requirements aren’t that rare anymore.
