For me it became literally unplayable. Due to some server hiccup while I was zailing I somehow ended up at Zee, but not in any particular zone of the Zee. I was right in the middle of a Roof Below carousal when Hallowmas ended. I was pretty sure I was 3740something HoS when I went in, and I had to reload FB several times to get it to work. It seems the server/the developers/The Power That Be smiled on me that day, because despite not finishing it I came out with 3800 HoS.
well I screwed up, I thought you can get companions until the 15th, and not just turn in my confessions.
woe is me, for i have only one new rubbery friend instead of 3 (and a waste of confessions to boot)
and of course i thought for some reason you lose your confessions, so I just traded them all for items.

I was caught in the middle of trying to turn in my Wounds to the Fool’s Apostate when Hallowmas ended. I don’t think I did get the Spirit points, AND I was stuck with 7+ Wounds! Thank heaven for my Parabolan Base Camp. :-)
Really not at all – it’s something that goes on in the background. Make sure to upgrade all that Absinthe to Broken Giant, and the BG on to Cellars, then get Airag whenever a certain gentleman comes calling (plus, get Airag in the Nadir or Waswood). Good to know. I’m still glad that I got it, as it seems I will need it quite soon for Vake luring. I ventured onto the wiki to check what uses it had.

Aw, man that sucks. My sympathies. I think you do lose any unused confessions, though, in the end,

Yes, I was massively sleep-deprived at the time but having seen that others have had the same misunderstanding - there were some comments on the FB blog last year - I feel that the wording in the initial post could perhaps be improved a little for clarity and comprehension…
That said, you’ll always have a chance to get any companions you missed next year, unfortunately for Fate - but who knows, if FB are going to continue to bring back companions from past Hallowmases, maybe the ones you want will be free again!
