Ditto everything said above: this is the worst thing they’ve ever done! I think many players haven’t even realized what’s going on yet as it’s only affecting three relatively specialized areas right now. Imagine how irritating it will become once they roll this out across FL! This could make me walk away from the game completely (which I’d never thought possible before); it will definitely stop me from spending money on it.

Email sent.

I didn’t even consider the implications this will have on expeditions!

The change is annoying enough in the Bazaar Side-streets, but running expeditions without a way to track how many supplies you still have? Not a practical option. You need a way to keep track of your supplies in order to decide on certain actions (e.g. gamble on a riskier action or not).

Yeah it seems to be turning so many things into a gambling game of uninformed consent, from my perspective.

It’s a great idea to be more informed on whether an action will Require or Cost said materials, but at the loss of all other foreknowledge / efficiency that’s a game changer.

I still hope they can keep the new icons -and- rekindle the mouseover info.

Ah, this just occurred to me, but are there any plans to introduce social actions that include three or more people? (Perhaps with the extant dinner-at-someone’s-lodgings or salon parties or weddings, or other occasions that involve groups of people.) I have no idea how difficult that will be to implement, but the RP and networking potential would be immense! For example, I’m currently RPing with someone whose character is seeking to widen her social circle, and being able to introduce her to someone else through any such social options would be fantastic.

Also, perhaps it would be nice if we could get an option to &quotstar&quot certain contacts or separate them into groups in our list. It’s not that I don’t value people, but sometimes it is more user-friendly to have a list of people who one contacts very often, especially if one RPs or does social actions frequently (both, in my case!). My list was quite manageable and very trim up until Hallowmas, heh.

Can we have a better conversion system for Rag Trade Items? Favours are hard to come by and I think up-converting is one of the least productive ways of using it. Maybe we can have a “bulk” option for Whisper-Satin to Thirsty Bombazine so as to avoid the Favours System entirely.

I understand that fate action results can’t be discussed openly. Fine. The problem is when those hidden actions are incredibly detrimental. I just lost all connection to a certain group of over 100 levels due to a fate option. I never would have spent the fate if I knew this was the true cost. Good for Failbetter but incredibly bad for me.

I agree with what many are saying. Not being able to track my supplies is a step backwards, and it is seriously detrimental to my progress.

This is on the extreme end of things, but I had to concede a Fate Expedition due to these changes. To be fair, I was trying to see if Archaelogist’s Progress had a cap, but not being able to see how many Expedition Supplies I had meant that I didn’t know I had under 10 Supplies left right up until Rival’s Progress 10 hit me a second time around.

During the Feast of the Exceptional Rose, declining NON-Fate gifts should return the cost of the item to the sender (not provide the sender with the item).

Just remember that what worked for cancel/decline last year might not work this year. We don’t know of the previous behaviour was intended or not by FBG.

I wouldn’t think of unsubscribing or being angered, but I do admit the cost&requirement system is not working too well at the moment.

I really see or feel no benefits, while it’s being confusing, hides important information, and plainly doesn’t work correctly for many, many options.

Frankly at the moment I don’t feel this change does much good to the game.

Adding to the people finding that not telling you how many of a thing you have left on the result page is seriously suboptimal–this is currently an issue while doing Flint.

Am I the only one who has found the free content updates (or general lack thereof) to be a bit disappointing? I’m not trying to start a big argument, but back in the day there was a small amount of Fate-locked content and it was all good but the main game was the main work. While I don’t mind more premium content, and I’ve paid to play a decent bit of it, but the ratio of premium to free is getting really imbalanced. Now I’ve been checking the game every few weeks or every month or so and it seems like there’s been next to no free updates, except to early game, which I swear has been reworked for something like the third time now. I’m not sure, maybe I’ve simply missed them talking about progress on free updates, I have recently been out of the loop.

It seems like the only guaranteed content is the monthly story for Exceptional Friends, and what little free content I’ve been able to access as a late-game (endgame with the current state of things) player seemed lower quality than it once was, in particular the last Heart’s Desire update seemed very rushed and short and was egregiously padded out with zailing.

I know Failbetter has to make ends meet and all that but it’s awful to see what was once one of my favorite games, with the best atmosphere, story, and lore I’ve seen, is now putting almost all of its content behind a monthly paywall. And don’t get me wrong, I’ve played a lot of the Fate-locked content and what I did play was top-notch and I don’t really have any buyer’s remorse (except for maybe the Blemmigan Affair) but what I loved about this game was how dedicated the devs were, how great their storytelling was, and their solid connection with the community, and I don’t want them to fall down the path of far too many game devs these days and focus on money first above all else.

Sorry that this turned into such a long post. I just don’t want to see such a great game to take this sort of turn. Maybe I’m just being impatient and they’ve got free content plans after the mobile things and SS dlc get worked out, but to be fair, there hasn’t been as much updating the community on what’s going on these days and the Parabola board is more about mechanical changes than content. It just seems like everything now is either a UI or quality-of-life change or some premium stories. I think I’ve played maybe a few hours altogether for most of this year. Back in the day, I’d check every week or so and at least keep up with things on the forums. Nowadays the only discussion on the forums is from new players, people playing the Fate-locked content, and the like. I hope that I don’t come across as demanding. I’m not trying to say “Oh I deserve nothing but free content!” but there’s always been a fluctuating ratio of premium to free content releases and it seems like we’ve come to a point where free stories have fallen to the wayside.

TL;DR: I’m hoping we get more free content releases soon or at least get more information on content plans as, hopefully, the lack of content is just due to work on the mobile app.

You know, this gives me an idea. What if FBG hosts a monthly (or bi-monthly) contest asking users to send their exceptional stories for each of the Four main stats. The winners gets a fair amount of FATE and have their stories adapted as free content.

 1. FBG writers get less effort to generate content since these stories may only need some editing and should not necessarily affect the core narrative of Fallen London. We do have the &quotRatness&quot items as an example that user-content can inspire things within the Neath.
 2. Storywriters have a chance of getting FATE. I think this is self-explanatory.
 3. All FL players get access to new content.
I think I’ve played maybe a few hours altogether for most of this year.
Since you say that you have only played a few hours for most of this year, did you play Port Carnelian? It was added in June and should have taken more than a few hours to really explore.

As a relatively new player, Failbetter seems quite generous with content. However, I admit that I don’t know how generous that they were before I started. If I could make one change, I would have them open up some of the new areas to everyone. For example, I think it would be great for Apis Meet to be available even to those who didn’t play Flint. There is no story reason that I can think of to lock it. But, the rest of the locations and story elements should be locked or Exceptional Friendship loses some of its worth. Actually, I feel the Bleeding Forest should remain open for those that played Flint but that’s another topic.

I have a bit of feedback regarding Making your Name: Shadowy.

The &quotEmbroiled in the Wars of Illusion&quot is just awful to start. Almost everything in the game is skill-based, that is, if you get more skill you can probably do it easily, or you can pay something to take a shortcut, either items or fate. This is the case for all of the other attribute storylines, also, except for shadowy. In order to really start this chain, you have to get, I believe, three rare successes, which means it could take forever - and that’s not really enjoyable.

Shouldn’t there at least be a fate shortcut, or better yet, an adjustment that guarantees at least 1CP of EitWoF per X number of actions in the Flit?

I agree with Ruddertail that making the Wars totally random might conceivably result in never getting the story to fire. But perhaps there is some hidden trigger that will ensure a start after a few frustrations?

I wonder if Loitering could be made more appealing to players. Perhaps one could gain Connected: Criminals (or even Favours, but that might make it a bit too overpowered, unless it’s a chance to get Favours) even as they lose Connected: Society, and perhaps there could be a 50/50 chance of either gaining or losing MW (Since ‘waves’ among the criminal element of society apply too, as the heist success texts suggest. Maybe one might lose the usual amount that other actions provide, but the gains provide twice as much, so that it averages out to be comparable to other social actions). It just seems odd that a social action should be so detrimental compared to its equivalents for other stats.

I can understand Failbetter not wanting to do this but I think it is definitely a really neat idea! At the very least I wish there were more ways to earn Fate in-game. At the very beginning they give you fate and there are about two stories that reward Fate at the end beside, but seeing that most of the new content is Fate-locked it is really unpleasant to be unable to get Fate when I need it. I really do miss hoarding it as a reminder of my accomplishments. Obviously I don’t expect them to throw large sums of Fate left and right, but it would be nice to have more opportunities to earn small amounts.

I wish there was an equivalent to “Reminiscing about your adventures” for other story lines than just the Ambitions. Yes, the ambitions are definitely on the longer end, but I’d like to have all of my dream tidbits attached together (or the faction-specific text from the Jack case, as another example) and easier to browse.
