EXCEPTIONAL STORY: FLINT PART II, WINE OR WOUND

A rapid response from the delicious bug-squashers has added &quotAcquaintance: Regretful Soldier&quot as a requirement on that card, so there we have it.

…At least I have his Campaign Medal to remember him by. wibble

Speaking of losing friends, I just noticed my assistants on an expedition are finally gone! My loud, rowdy household just got six times quieter.

I’ll miss you guys. I made up names for you and everything :(

Can fate bring him back? [/quote]

Well, one presumes I could just draw cards in Watchmaker’s Hill until I meet another Soldier with suspiciously similar regrets and mustaches, but I’ll always know in my heart he’s not the genuine article, won’t I?

I think it’s a testament to the compelling writing in this story that despite hating this particular result of my choices, I don’t want to negate them.

(…yet)

Is it just me, or do I still get a free ship ride across the unterzee? Used it a couple times already to get to Polythreme, but could also be used to go back to Apis Meet, if you so choose to.

I’m not quite finished yet, so I haven’t read the thread. Has anyone tried the “Unstain your soul” option? I’m terribly tempted to experience more Seeking content after so long, but it is going in the opposite direction. I’d love it if someone could link me to an echo of the result.

A couple people seem to have echoed it, although no word on what the effects are (I don’t have access to any accounts with stained souls, so I couldn’t tell you, but maybe one of them could):

The effects are exactly as advertised. The Bishop is apparently a man of his word.

Any side effects though? Wounds, quirks, that kind of thing?

Thank you, all!

Not that I recall. I was sure about that until I hit reply, but now I’m second-guessing myself, heh.

My favorite part of the expedition itself was the gorgeous card art. But in terms of mechanics, I expected an epic journey and got more of a stroll in the park. I believe I reached the prison with 3 Foresights, 3 Comforts, a ridiculous number of Valors, and 10 Assistants. Was I just lucky or high-statted?

Probably the latter. I was surprised at losing my supplies upon reaching the prison because I hadn’t expected them to be needed only for the journey; I had made sure to purchase the maximum allowed at Caution, but didn’t really lose much along the way.

Part of it is due to being high-statted. I played on a low level alt and it’s certainly non-trivial. Part of it is due to the fact that the three types of supplies are not made equal. LC are very useful indeed. VI are useful to deal with one obstacle and one menace. FPs are effectively useless for a high statted character

In case anyone’s curious, I tried feeding a Tear of the Bazaar to the snuffer in the garden to see if level 9 intoxicating would make a difference. No dice.

YES! Someone had the courage to try it out.
Did you lose the Tears?

Oh yes. I’m just glad I decided not to go with the Master’s Blood.

Does anyone know if it is somehow possbile to raise Cherty again after finishing Flint? I guess it would have to be in Apis Meet, at least I didn’t notice any new storylets anywhere else.

I’ve recently spent an afternoon at the Biblioclasm in Apis Meet and lost my last point in Cherty. This replaces the 5 Echo option with a 2.5 Echo option, making the so-so carousel basically worthless (dropping from 1.4 EPA to 0.9 EPA if I calculated correctly).

I’m an exceptional friend right now. Am i to understand that i can now play Flint without paying the 120 fate?

I’m in the iron republic right now, can’t see at the moment

Afraid you’re about a month late for that.

Nanako, Currently Exceptional Friends have access to The Art of Murder. Which story is up changes from month to month.
