i thought so, i was wondering why this thread was here. just noticed it’s not stickied, i guess someone just posted in it
Sorry for reviving this thread again… I’m just about to set off to Flint and would like to know what sort of supplies to bring. I understand that a supply of presbyterate passphrases will come in handy. Anything aside from that?
Also, are there any areas that I should pay attention to if I wish to complete all sections? Was there something about a forest that one can’t go back to?

Don’t worry about using the old thread. Most people don’t mind and it can be the most appropriate thing to do (as in this instance).
The following resources will make your life easier/more options available: passphrases, various third-tier items (MoEC, ToT, ZZ, etc) proscribed materials, cheap wine items. Most of these you only need a few of but you may want to have a safer supply of PP and MoEC. You’ll also find it helpful to have higher Subtle and Melancholy.
The forest is called the Bleeding Forest and, indeed, make sure you’ve done as much there as you can. It’s not a resource grind but lots of lore-ish snippets. Apart from that make sure you fully explore the end-story area before leaving.
Just finished Flint. A completely wonderful story and more than justifies having gotten Exceptional Friendship just to see it.
Two minor items:
1. I was disappointed we weren’t allowed to grab a piece of the Flint Prison. The flavor text said there were a ton of shards from it scattered in the grass. I’d definitely have picked one up just as a memento.
- I took Alan, my noman, on my expedition with me. But there were no options to make him into a statue or extend his life. What happened there? (I’m just kidding, I never expected this to be part of the content - but I have been wondering if the Elder Continent would help nomen.)
Huh, that is an interesting thing to ponder about.

Thank you Rupho and genesis. Your tips have been very helpful! I’m just at the gates of Caution. Excited to see what happens next when my candles fill up sufficiently!
I’m now in the Bleeding Forest and have finally collected 8 comforts. I think this is the one that will unlock a card related to the Huz. Do I simply keep drawing? My progress is over 400 at the moment!
Edit: Still drawing cards and my progress is 500. Am I never going to meet the Huz? I now have 10 little comforts, 4 foresighted plans, 15 valorous inclinations and 4 assistants. I have no more melancholy and my subtlety is way too low. Is my little party doomed to march through the Bleeding Forest for eternity?

You’ll need to get the Road of Excess quality, or something like that. I think there’s two cards that can give that to you? I seem to recall two cards involving bees, and you might be able to start that little mini quest through either of them.
Argh, I don’t have enough subtle to do the bees option. Does that mean I’m locked out?
Oh no! Is the subtle requirement on both? If so then yes, you won’t be able to do it this time. I’m pretty sure the Bleeding Forest will return for other content, however, so you may be able to get a second chance in the distant future.
As far as I remember, yes. I have
A Hive in the Vast Beast’s Skull on hand right now and it definitely requires subtle. I remember the other one also required subtlety and I’ve been flipping so many cards, my progress is now near 600. I’m a bit bummed because I thought I had high subtlety but turned out that I fed most of it to my Noman instead. I was so looking forward to this bit of the story!
Edit: I have both on hard now. Heart-Taker Dell requires subtle too. Maybe it should be renamed Heart-Breaker Dell. Both require Subtle 4.
Is this too much info to put on the forum? I’ve spoilered it, but please edit accordingly not allowed at all.
I know this isn’t quite as sad as the Noman losses but I still feel pretty gutted since I wasn’t intending on resetting the story for another go. I had been saving and saving this story for a lull period in the festivities and plain forgot that I hadn’t enough subtle. And this merely because my character is all about subtlety and shadows. Argh. Argh. Argh.

The amount of info is fine, no worries. But yeah, that’s definitely a shame. I’d dig up some echoes, but they’re all pretty disorganized…still, I’m pretty sure between my journal and Gloria’s journal I have all the echoes if you want to read the text.
Thank you, Sara. That’s very kind of you. I at least can read the echoes now :)

- Those were shards of something else more glassy, iirc.
- I don’t think Nomen would do well in the Elder Continent since it’s explicitly hot and tropical.
I’m not sure they could even survive the passage to Apis Meet: all that zalty air…
The Snow Child manages to survive zee-voyages! But then, it’s got some very mysterious blood in it.
My last Noman also made the trip to the Prison, and my current Noman is my bo’sun on Monster Hunts for Seals.

Flint can be very glassy, but either way, I want a shard.
It seemed to do okay when I took it there. Perhaps the nearness to the Mountain helped. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who took their Noman exploring this year. Now we just need Failbetter to write special content for the three people who did it. That seems like a good use of their time.

Does anyone know if accepting the Bishop’s offer with regard to one’s soul may cause difficulties when Seeking the Name returns?
If there was an official call on this, it’d be great, as the fear of it is stopping me making a decision.
