Agreed. I’m going to try and hit the Crystallisation or Space points tomorrow, but honestly I’m worried that by the time I wrap that up, the next thing will already be 70% done!
ETA: wait, it needs an Iron Republic pass. I don’t have one of those. So I guess I’ll focus on the others for now.
Oh cool, the weekly 10-free-action card has different text!
They’ve really put a lot of effort into making the change large-scale and impactful this year. Like the Marigold art. Really sells the idea that the whole Neath is bent.
It’s now possible to skip stages of clue gathering for Crystallisation of Space, enough people collected them. It looks like you can get what clues you want, or none, and just do the directions.
Hi, what would be a good way for a new player to grind Aeolian Screams, to progress through the Weather Plot? I found a bunch of ways on the wiki, but I don’t seem to have access to most storylets yet.
I just started playing two weeks ago, so I’m still figuring out a lot of stuff
What I like to call the ‘Impenetrable Gobbledegook’ aspect of Fallen London has been increasing slowly over time, and causing me to become less and less engaged with the game, to the point of ignoring huge chunks of it and rarely playing these days. This year’s Estival seems to be the epitome of this trend, and I am near the point of just giving up.
It’s just buckets of random nonsense over and over again, trying to sound sophisticated and clever, and for me failing utterly. Or maybe I’m just a big thicko and everything is flying over my head. I don’t know. Oh well.
Honestly if it were just directly grinding the event by hunting laws or repairing a moment, that’d be fine. But in this case it’s the almost mandatory really tedious carousels that you usually do once and never again that bring it down.
It’s not even fun, like if you had to get someplace to get a clue but then could just leave as is. You really have to go through the whole process.
Meanwhile everything else progresses while you’re stuck doing that.
I think it’s the first time I’ve drunk coffee through frustration rather than hype. And it’s not even an option when in the Republic or the Colonies so those feel even worse.
This years’ event definitely feels more rushed and stressful than Coilheart at least. Although I feel like there were moments in the Horticultural Show that pulled forward at this sort of breakneck speed even then it wasn’t the whole event whereas this is starting to feel as if I’m supposed to wait for a tiny number of people to complete a thing so that I can take the unlocked shortcut.
The menace gain on catching 20 laws was brutal (even with the difficulty reduced), the Iron Republic carousel’s always been on my “only visit if you absolutely have to” list, no shortcuts to/from the Tomb Colonies was mean, and New Newgate again mean I’ve barely even touched the Shredded Time thing. I’ve resorted to far more coffee than is probably healthy and I feel like there’s a lack of reassuring “you won’t miss things” / “grind this counter to 10-million” stages where you can take a break.
I think the event will actually move slower than it feels right now.
Some parts of Estival move at the speed of the so-called “Vanguard,” the first 100 players or so. And some parts move at the speed of the player base as a whole. Like when we’re filling a progress bar to 10 million at 3 points per click. Right now we have both of those going on, and that may be a novelty, it’s usually one or the other.
The next step in the event is gated on Time, which is a 1.5 million hp bar. That looks like a multi day push to me. Ontology may be the same.
Be that as it may, I’d still like a way to: a) deal with Menaces b) bypass the Republic carousel c) get in and/or get out of the Colonies faster. Yes, that may be greedy, but I am honestly really annoyed by the whole thing right now, and I like to think I’m usually quite patient with the game.
Did law hunting get adjusted again? It seems like it’s changing types every single time now, where before it’d stay a Beast or a Sigil or Idea for a few turns, so you didn’t have to change methods every time.
I’m torn about the shortcuts because at least it’s possible for me to catch up, but I don’t like missing out on the storylets.
Yeah, I feel the exact same way. Up until the “A Crystallisation of Space” storylet, I was doing everything the long way, even though I could have taken the shortcuts, since I didn’t want to miss out on any text or lore, not to mention the possibility of additional items later on for doing everything. Then I got to the aforementioned storylet, saw what it required, and very quickly noped out of doing the ridiculous amount of tedium that that step requires and took the easy way out. I still feel bad about doing that, though, which a game that is supposed to provide you with joy to play should not be doing.

Completely agree. This event has been more and more frustrating each new day. They should have provided more time gaps between sections of the event, because I’ve been dealing with FOMO the entire time I’ve been doing it. With everything moving so fast, I’m afraid of falling behind, so I’m not even taking the time to try to solve anything myself anymore and am largely looking at the wiki before I do anything to avoid screwing anything up. This is by far my least favorite event I’ve ever done in FL so far.
