Embarassing: finally figured out outfits

Finally made POSI, and exploring new challenges is fun. I had previously noticed the outfits dropdown (morning, evening, etc.) but never put together what it was for; how sad is that? Now I’m not manually switching equipment for particular challenges. Minor question - is it possible to rename the settings?

No. The intent, more or less, is to use Morning for Watchful items, Incognito for Shadowy, Hard-Wearing for Dangerous, and Evening for Persuasive. You can, of course, use them in whatever way suits you.

Ohhhh…I thought it was just for aesthetics. Handy tip.

I use them in the order the stats are on the left. Hard-wearing => shadowy!

Whaaat I thought Morning and Evening were switched purpose-wise!! Oh well. Who says one can’t be persuasive in the morning?

I do it the same way as Kan. It seems to me that Hard-Wearing clothes are the sturdy sort of wear that one needs for Dangerous Ventures, whereas Incognito clothes are surely for ventures during which one does not wish to be recognized. I reasoned that Evening Clothes are one’s most formal wear, whereas Morning is… associated with daylight, in places that actually have daylight, at least.

It’s also worth pointing out that the Morning Suit boosts Watchful the most, while almost all the Persuasive clothes are eveningwear.

I had no idea which quality (Persuasive or Watchful) went with which time of day, so I chose “evening” for my Watchful gear because Watchful’s icon is an owl.

Guess I got it butt-wrong. Ah well, I ain’t changing it :P

The time of day doesn’t actually matter - just thematic rather then mechanical.

I know it doesn’t actually matter. Just amused that I guessed wrong :P

Honestly, I wish there were an extra slot for maxed BDR clothing, which doesn’t always fit with a maxed basic stat.

D’accord. On the other hand, the more concerned you are with BDR, oftentimes, the less concerned you are with stat bonuses, so it does work out to some degree.

I agree with both: a dedicated BDR slot would be delicious and I currently use my Hard-Wearing for it, as I rarely have need of maximized Dangerousness (which one shouldn’t, if one is extremely Dreaded and Bizarre).

The idea behind Morning and Evening, I presume, is that morning-wear is what the well-to-do wear to work, where they’re busy all day using their brains and being productive, while evening-wear is what they wear to parties, where they drink too much and try to charm the pants off of each other.

Also, Watchful Chelatic mittens are perfect for opening tinned sardines for your breakfast. Much better than trying to fiddle around with that little key thing.

Yeah, a fifth slot (BDR) would be nice. Call it ‘unexplainable’ or ‘unfathomable’ or something!

Don’t feel bad, bralex–I didn’t get it until I read your post a little while ago, and I’ve been playing FL for…more years than I care to admit. One reason for my confusion is that I never waited long enough for the change in setting to take effect–or bothered to track what different settings did to my stats.
:)

Oh… thanks for the tip. WIthout the post I would have never realized - exactly because the change takes some time, as Catherine said.

Took me around six months, too.

Ideally, we’d be able to add four or five custom slots for whatever we choose. BDR is obviously the main reason people have to fiddle with inventory often, but there are other things too: for instance, Dreaded allows you to move past a specific card during Heists with up to 100% reliability.
