I got rid of them as quickly as I could, of course. To, eh, avoid the sad memory. Yes, that’s it. :-)
Well… This is not a commiseration, rather… a celebration. But I thought I’d better give an update.
Check my mantelpiece.

Also, from the mail I received:
We’ve just launched a patch for A Name Signed with a Flourish, so that anyone who has written a short story and has one in their inventory will now advance to the next tier.
This may help more people than me! Throw your hats in the air!
My current most disappointing failure was when I failed ‘Examine it through your Semiotic Monocle’ on the Bucket of So-Called Snow at 70%. Three times. Now I have one last desperate grind for Storm-Threnodies to obtain another bucket of Snow, and then pray that I can succeed the check before I use the last Mr. Sacks card (if that will even still work) to get to the requisite ToL: 9. Otherwise this will not be a very merry Christmas for Arensen.
I would have to say failing the strike at the docks with pretty good odds again and again.
I went from low 6 to high 7 Scandal through my Lodging’s Menace reduction option. Then, I failed a Shadowy action… and got Scandal, sending me to the Tomb Colonies. Then, I failed the Society challenge that has "How can you fail?" odds.

I failed to get my vial of tears for my round in the nadir.
Personal failure- i erronously sold my dreadful surmise, and at the same time stockpiled multiple buckets of lacre, so now i have a dillema. Do i sell my buckets, and for what? Do i get a second lodging because i can, or do i get tangible goods, despite the fact that the payout is pathetic, or do i just turn them in to de gustibus, or do i hold onto them and watch them melt… i don’t know. Wish me luck!

you need to add a return space between your echo link and the bullet point separator (or remove it and any [ li] entirely in source mode) as it’s adding the "li" to the end of the url and not working:

I did not put it there. The forum did not play well with my post when I edited it…
In other news…
I failed 10 out of 14 checks with an 89% success rate… At this rate, I’ll never finish all the empress Court works, and get to move on to the Foreign Office.

My last Time the Melter of the month has arrived, I’ve formed my Noman, and I’ve begun the process of hurling buckets of Lacre on it in a desperate bid to keep it alive until the feast begins. To aid this process I had 2 Tears of the Bazaar. Unfortunately, both of them disappeared after a single huff. I should hopefully have enough pails to make it but that was a pretty disappointing start to the process.
On my way back from the Iron Republic, I mindlessly hailed another passing yacht.
“Austere has dropped to 11 - Ascetic!”
I just managed to lose 119 Noman’s friend on a single TTH, over a third of my total. Ugh.
Failing on the Luck challenge for the Magnificent Pleasure Yacht, seven times so far, and I still haven’t got it.
I finally hit Noman Knows 15 the other day, and decided to keep a Noman’s Progress card in my hand until TtH day just in case something unforeseen happened to extend my run. (I was down to 13 Noman’s Friend with no more buckets of snow and no more PtPT so I knew this was the end one way or the other).
So TtH day dawned today and I prepared to say goodbye to my Noman. And then I accidentally clicked on "Listen" instead. Noman Knows dropped back down to 14. I spent the rest of the day frantically drawing cards, but Noman’s Progress was nowhere to be found. My Noman melted away with Time the Healer’s visit, leaving me with one last bucket of so-called snow.
Hah, aren’t you a heartless bastard!
(a Noman on my alt hit lost 50 health twice in first two weeks, just when I was preparing to draw the last card at 15 Progress and get a secret. I was so angry I melted him to snow. so I feel for you too)
I just retired my mid-late-game zee-captain to an elegant townhouse - entirely through inattention and a misclick.
facepalm
Oh well, back to chasing Salt’s Song, albeit from a rather smaller ship…

I made 5 attempts at A Literary sort of Fist Fight this morning. It had a 86% success rate. I got 7, fail, 6, fail, fail…
Whoever decided to make a game of cat and mouse that was purely luck challenges can go jump down the well in Charley Square.
Are all of them like that? If so, the screaming map is going to be a pain…
All games of cat and mouse are luck challenges, unless you pay for the win (either in increasingly expensive materials, or fate).
I agree that they’re pretty obnoxious, but they’re relatively rare.

all of them are like that, but for most you can bribe your way through at a loss-or-almost-loss, or reduce it to one actual gamble for a tolerable-if-not-good profit.
For the screaming map, that might be quite irksome, though.
I learned a lesson about acting too hastily . . .
Got excited about the "Feast", sent a 40-fate gift to someone . . . forgot to check the name properly, so - long story short - seemed to have sent it to an account that’s been inactive for five years and also a player that’s so new they haven’t even left the prison >_<
I’ve learned a lesson about double-checking that the in-game name is the same as the in-forum name, along with triple-checking the name and whether it’s the right one . . .
Maybe I can role-play the loss of fate/money by saying that my character used an surface bank-account to arrange for their divorce XD They’re shady enough that it could work XD
curses being too overly excited and wasting money
I’d send in a bug report on that, were I you.
