Commiseration: Our most painful failures

Today commemorates my 4th attempt at getting a Classic Short Story only to get a Master Short Story. That’s eight months of Trade Secrets down the drain. Oh well, my fault I suppose. I could always just wait over two months to get more Trade Secrets to up my chances at getting what I want, but where would be the fun in that?

Just got a Boneless Consort (to improve my BDR), which… sent me directly to the Tomb-Colonies with Scandal at 10. Right when I need all the actions I can gather to improve my Notability (currently at 13). And my Time the Healer strikes in 3 days… <_<… Oh my…

I’ve dumped way too much money buying candles trying to do the Ambition: Light Fingers.

If you haven’t been kicked out of court yet, you can get candles for composing a hymn. Much better rate than buying them from the bazaar. There’s also the unfinished business in the Veilgarden (IIRC) that gives them too.

So far I’ve been unlucky when converting my Rooms at the Royal Bethlehem about 10 or so times now in a row. Needless to say, I want to spare the God-Eaters the trouble and murder these Fidgeting Writers myself.

Out of two bottle of tears of the bazaar I got 5 lacre out of it. For information the minimum is 4.

I misclicked on the “Rat Melancholy” card on my phone and inadvertenly spent 30 Fate. Now I have to do the “Seeking the Meaning of the Plaster Face” storyline all over again.

When I asked, I was told they don’t reset for misclicks which I can certainly understand. Not using a confirmation window/click does make the user experience less pleasant for those actually wanting to spend the Fate, no argument there either.

But I after having thought about the problem a little more I would suggest not putting the “redo” options on cards where it’s relatively easy to click them by mistake but to put them all one one storylet in your lodgings where they are a lot safer. You could also just put them on the Fate page instead of course.

The only downside I can see is that it would be quite a long list after a while.

After much painful days of grinding, I mistook First City Coins for Surface currency and accidentally sold them, thus blocking my Ambition: heart’s desire. I had to spend my sole point of connection to the Masters to get more coins ;_;

Ah, sorry to hear that. If this happens again, consider requesting a loan of 30 coins (i.e. someone sends them to you until you have sufficient stocks, at which time you send them back). I (and, I am sure, many other fellow Marvellers) would be happy to assist.

I really don’t think that a confirmation window would be that intrusive.

I’ve spent a week, and I think 50 fate or so refilling my opportunity deck, to get skin of the bazaar. only to discover that framing secret in gold, a story which I completely forgot sadly… is at 53, therefor i locked myself out. **** me.

If only I could spend fate to replay it I would, I just… have no idea what the story is about anymore.

7 times in a row myself, I was frustrated after the skin of the bazaar and decided to spend 10 fate to go through my stash myself. I don’t know if i want to play anymore :(

Just failed a 70% succesful skill check five times in a row.
RNG god, why do you hate me?

I recently lost quite a big set of Knife-and-Candle gear to an opponent I attacked.

Right in the beginning, one of my first actions: Wore a silly hat, all stats dropped to zero. What fun.
Recently I sold my Bat with an attitude, because 12 quid. The future will show how sustainable that was.

Hindsight, without you everything would be half as dumb.

Been there, done that. Twice. What, the first time it worked well, so why not hit them again…well…But then it IS the perfect time to hit them again, because what are they going to do? I am not so good with numbers, yet somehow I became noticably wealthy over time. Don’t read it out loud what the real costs are in the end, but yadayadayada: We’re besties again, Hell and I. Meant for each other. Devils are, like, so cool: The coolest. Or hottest. Whatever.

In prison? By accident?

The second was actually a perfectly reasonable action. some people hoard them, but they’re just vendor trash.

Now, mine isn’t really my failure, but this is very painful even if it’s not my fault- they made the urchins vs. docks conflict card give mere material rewards rather than the far superior Favors! What a waste!

And then there’s this. Don’t even go there. Just don’t…

Here’s mine now which made me laugh a bit: I was raising connection via the Public Lecture, but I was at 75% success rate which means that 1 in 4 times I would fail. Two failure would mean an event that may occur 1 in 16 times. Well, the point it is I failed 6 or 7 times in a row which got me to suspicion 6+. Let’s say I failed 6 times which means that RNG offered me a &quotchance&quot that may occur ONCE in 4096 times. :D
