And I finally got that last Skull. I have traded them in for the Ray Drenched Cinder. Might be time to leave the Forgotten Quarter for a while.

Was that from the seeking curios storylet?
Yes all from the seeking curios storylet. I didn’t get any from the expeditions this time.
A week or so ago I finally found my fifth skull. I got one or two from expeditions and the rest from seeking curios.
For those who are curious, I echoed in my journal the Gallery of Serpents expedition (the resolution, at least).
In case you’re wondering, no special or unique objects are given with this storylet.
Thanks, that’s exactly what I was wondering ^^
I’m in the same boat - I had a fairly simple run through to the end, and got a nice reward, but apparently there’s the opportunity to meet an odd character along the way who’ll hinder your rival (or something?) in exchange for part of the reward.
apparently there’s the opportunity to meet an odd character along the way who’ll hinder your rival (or something?) in exchange for part of the reward.
There is indeed. From what I saw, you can only meet him when Airs are 96-100, which is perhaps not the best design decision – both because a player who always takes a buccaneering approach has around a 50% chance of missing him entirely, and because those Airs values also give access to A Sign, a very powerful option with no associated cost.
I was a bit disappointed at the content reward for the Gallery of Serpents compared with its cost. Although it didn’t require too much Fate, it was quite expensive in terms of supplies. It also teased greater answers, which apparently were revealed to my character off-screeen, but not to me, the player. [li]
I got a really nice reward, so I’m happy… certainly, it would have been nice for the wisdom of the oracles to be outlined more specifically, but the fact that they were there at all is something of a revelation… and, given our recent dreams of pricked fingers, something hopeful.
The unpredictable treasure - I got Araig and Linen, which are pleasant things to get, on the whole.
May I inquire about the identity of the “odd character”? Being it a Fate-locked occurrency it would probably be best to do it via PM ^^
I got 2 elemental secrets from 1 expedition and 2 skulls from another. Rather profitable

I did a run through the Cavern of Serpents yesterday, including an encounter with said character, and echoed it in my journal. As far as I could tell dealing with that character was the only way to reduce Rival’s Progress during this expedition. Even going Boldly through the whole way I still had to resort to him once.
My unpredictable treasure was two skulls, my fifth and sixth, so I’m all ready for the Cave of the Nadir now once I re-gather enough supplies.
Overall I think it was worthwhile just for the lore and text, but probably only "efficient" in terms of actions/rewards if you’re advanced enough to take at least a Bold approach the whole way through.

Oh my, thanks! Now that I read it, I’m under the impression of having already heard of him, somewhere.

There is actually a conventional Rival-slowing method too, but I only saw it once.
I got double skulls both times. Not bad, but I wish I’d gotten some more valuable ones; I’m a mere 600 echoes away from an Übergoat, so getting Elemental Secrets would have put me very close indeed.
Id go through the expedition again but then I’d be dead out of Nex, making me insufficiently Fated to initiate Goat Fusion
I did The Gallery of Serpents once and I did meet the gentleman but decided not to accept his help. I made it to the end with my rival’s progress at 9.
I wonder what will change if you do accept his help; will your set reward at the end just be lower or is there more to it? Does anyone know?
My random reward at the end was two skulls so now I’m considering grinding for another set of five…
For each act of assistance, you Receive one less Uncanny Incunabulum.
And there’s nothing else to it? I had hoped that helping him would at least have given you some morsel of new information or something like that.
I tried it once not accepting help, and once accepting help twice. Got double skulls the first time and Tears of the Bazaar (nice!) the second time. Has anyone accepted the gentleman’s help three times? Did anything interesting happen?[li]
Nothing particularly exciting happens, it’s roughly the same as giving him one or two questions.
