Exactly… Oh, I really don’t want to start any conspiracy theories about it. Paul Arendt usually uses great care to create character portraits with distinct features, so their strong resemblance just wouldn’t leave me alone. I can’t tell if it’s a hint of some sort or if it’s completely unintentional!
Other than the fact that the Interpreter would be terribly amused by the current state of the Fourth City and February lurks down there for her anarchist agenda, what have they got in common?

And well you should! I call for more! Ivory Rat Sidelong Glances for all![/li][li]
[/li][li]EDIT: I caved in and spent the fate. I have no idea how long it would have taken to draw the firebrand’s card to take me from 9 to 10, but I know how long I waited.[/li][li] edited by Finvara on 7/12/2013
February might agree there is a resemblance, but of course you can’t necessarily trust her.
Might as well mention now that I also entertained thoughts of her being a shapeshifting fox woman, a beautiful trickster lady. There are many folktales of love centered around the kitsune with this being one of the most famous: Come and Sleep - Japanese foxtales That train of thought led me to think Mr Iron must be her natural animal predator (an eagle, wolf, coyote, bear…um, badger): http://www.thefoxwebsite.org/faq/foxecology.html Those were my original idle thoughts when I saw February’s icon and read some narrative tidbits about her. The Interpreter resemblance struck me far later.
As for sidelong glances, yeah, I just like drawing those.
And I like looking at them. (It would be awful if I didn’t…since half of the characters have side glances…) But the brows! The raised, intellectual brows of the Interpreter and February eat away at a tiny part of my mind. Not a bad thing, though, and you didn’t clear anything up. In fact, you only planted different conspiracy theory seeds in my head, but that’s pretty par for the course when I try to puzzle out Fallen London.
By the way, your Vake ambition? Loving it! I’m eagerly looking forward to more. It’s one of the topmost stories I adore.
I’m considering the 50 fate option. Please tell me if it’s worth it, those of you that have tried, or tell me what it might be via PM if you don’t want to be cryptic
Has anybody else been waiting a ridiculously long time for the missionary to reappear? I’m at level 10 and need a card to appear to get me to level 11 and hence to access the Cave of the Nadir storyline. It’s pretty frustrating when there’s nothing players can physically do to get to a heavily trailed storyline - could the card frequency be increased?
You can buy access to the next part with fate in the writting letters story in your lodgings, but you’ll have to fork out more fate if your firebrand level is not 11 I think.
Yeah, that waiting for cards thing took weeks for me.
So the Cave of the Nadir has been fascinating and Awesome, but I’ve recently come across something that provides dramatic tension. Does anyone know if there’s a use for it within the cave?[li]
EDIT: I find myself choosing options in the cave based simply on the fact that their results aren’t listed in the wiki. But I’m no good with formatting, so hopefully someone kind will come in after me and straighten them up. edited by Finvara on 7/14/2013

Has anyone seen a glove-related option in the cave? Only I notice that most cards have two options at least, when within, and I notice The Web only has one I’ve ever seen. The Parabola Linen suit wasn’t yet purchased when I first found the card that would upgrade it, and appeared to only have one option as a result. Perhaps there is a specific glove we need to carry with us?
I’ve just purchased a complete set of gloves. It’s been eight days since I entered the Cave, and I haven’t used the Irrigo-flushing link yet, so with luck I’ll be able to find out.
Does anyone know what to do when you’re over halfway to the cave (37 progress) and your Rival’s (February) Progress is at 9?! The ‘hinder your rival’ option isn’t there (it came up a few goes ago and I did it, but I haven’t seen it since) and I don’t want to take my next go in case Rival’s Progress goes to 10 and I have to give up the expedition :(
If it does go to 10 is there any way to recover?[li] edited by Elnara on 7/15/2013[/li][li] edited by Elnara on 7/15/2013
When it gets to 10 you’ll get a chance to confront her. You’ll need 10 supplies, but you don’t consume them. I’m not sure what happens when it reaches 10 without any named rivals, but I assume you’ll be able to stop the nameless ones too.
The worst is when you start a long expedition and get enough failed searching and lost supplies early on to where you know you don’t quite have enough supplies to finish the expedition, but you can’t exit out of it to get more supplies either. You need to progress all the way to near the end and use up a bunch of supplies and actions knowing all the while you aren’t going to make it to the treasure.
It did use up supplies? Huh, I guess they changed that. Not too surprised.
Oh yeah, that’s happened to me once. Thankfully it wasn’t a longer one, but it’s still really annoying. After that I stocked up on 100 and just kept myself maxed out on supplies so I wouldn’t run into that scenario again.
