Coming soon: a return to the Forgotten Quarter

By the goddess’s sumptuous balls; that’s a hell of a theory. Deviously plausible verging on plausibly devious!

Not yet. But you never know and unless I play them I will never find out.

But then I was stat capped so it isn’t too bad to regain that level. Maybe I should wait until I have four and play them all - that might trigger something.

I have been playing the cards, just enough to avoid having more than one at a time. And I’ve only had to play two so far to do that–one each for Shadowy and Watchful (I have a Dangerous card I’m waiting to play).

No, I just tried four at once, didn’t do anything special, just lost a point in everything[li]

EDIT: Unless it takes seven in a row, which I’m not willing to test. or Eight in a row.

Yet again, the FBG team proves that we are more than willing to plumb the depths of insanity. XD

Storynexus doesn’t really do invisible quality changes so its extremely unlikely that there’s any special result for doing any number of skull cards in a row
And all things considered, I really doubt the skull cards have any rare success at all; they seem like through-and-through menace cards, and hiding something vital or valuable on em seems oblique even for Alexis

This was my initial reaction, but I figured I’d try four just because I had never considered it.

Skull Sources:

 1. &quotA Shrine of the Deep Blue Heaven&quot (rare success reward upon completion)
Does anyone know if you can get more than one this way?
[li]
I’ve gotten two of my skulls that way (and one from Wander the Quarter). Does seem to be pretty rare, since I’ve just been doing Shrine of Deep Blue Heaven since my first Temple of Uttermost Wind run and not seen any since.

I’ve been sticking with Uttermost Wind runs, they’ve been interesting, at the very least. I like the improved reward chart.

We now know four of the five sources. I think the question to ask at this point is: which of them does Alexis regard as obscure? (Stalkers, self-aware reflections, and hunters of big game: please emerge from the mirrors and share your insights!)

We know we’ve found at least one of the obscure methods. I conjecture that Alexis did not include the two we already knew: the Unpredictable Treasure and the Shrine rare success. That leaves the two rare successes from Seeking Curios. Is there any reason to suppose one more obscure than the other? If not, I suggest the method which yet eludes us is a) according to Alexis’s mysterious precepts, not difficult to find and b) not available from Seeking Curios. This would seem to rule out very strange methods, such as the menace cards and Nephrite Lens.

(Sorrow) Spider sense is tingling. New content is on its way. I’m speculating that it’s Forgotten Quarter related, but I could be wrong. The db is reacting topologically very much like it did during the River-in-a-Box issuance.

Edit: To be fair, it could be maintenance on the storage system, and I’m excited for no reason. That would make me sad, though. (Not that newer/better storage isn’t something to be happy about, because it is.)

What a crazy random happenstance! I ordered one skull and they gave me two![li]

Woo! Just traded in my five skulls for a certain particular cinder. I can tell you, it feels good to have those out of my lodgings. I’m curious what part the Cinder will play, if any. I’d hope it unlocks some secret tidbit or option in Nadir.

Nice! I still need to get three more skulls before I can do that. Well, truthfully I only need two, but I’d like to have one on hand for when the Cave opens.

I’ve just played every skull card I’ve received to date. I started at stat capped 165. Across all my stats excluding watchful I’ve lost a total of 21 levels of stats. My watchful is still capped because of all the expeditions I go on raising the stat. Which is the opposite of what I wanted to happen. Sigh, there’s just no getting use out of theses skull menaces.

I’ve thought of selling mine, but I figure that if I do, I’ll have a long wait to get another. Sigh.

I’m just going to keep the next one I find; this way I get a brief interlude where I can draw cards freely.

[li]

I doubt the Cinder will have any unique effect in the Cave, since this it already appeared in an earlier fate-locked storylet (not sure if I can say which one?) as a supposed &quotLuminosity&quot reward from the Revolutionaries (even though it just falls under &quotGoods&quot).

My solution for clearing the skull cards has just been to head to Pickpocket’s Promenade for a bit, which flushes your hand out.

Further clues! Adrian von Mynsicht (German alchemist, who, according to my preliminary researches, also wrote under the name Heinrich Madathanus,) and “Winstanley” - possibly William Winstanley, but, considering the source, my money’s on proto-anarchist Gerrwrd Winstanley.

Well I now have “Route: the Cave of the Nadir 1”

But my Archaeologist is only a 3 and I don’t have an Eyeless Skull yet. But I haven’t been doing Expeditions as I had decided not to risk getting a Skull before The Cave of the Nadir became available.

Off to see what I can find in the Forgotten Quarter.
