There’s an ending card in London now.
This was a really cool one, the earlier Living World Events were neat and sometimes had some really fun text (shoutout to singing to Terror Birds in the Crate Commotion), but felt pretty similar to each other, but they’ve been coming up with more and more inventive and atmospheric concepts that hit different emotional buttons and are varied enough in format and vibe that they feel like totally different things from each other altogether, and I thought this one was the most so yet (though the explosive ships with surprise twist is a close second).

I hope the next time this mini event is launched, there will be some progress indication bar… similar to Lifeberg hunting instances.

I was looking out for any reference to ‘black’ all through. The focus is on white and red, but we do see a few:
Perforated by wounds, the monster’s blood tinges the waters red-black.
The dragon screams like thunder. Black clouds roll in across the nest. It flies across the dreaming sky, a white scar trailing red ruin, and the nightmare falters, but does not break.
Even terror has a nest. Outside the walls of the burning City, that desperate dream of home, you find it, a blackened pit constructed from the ashen dreams of dead places.
In return, the dreaming city threw cannon and fire and boulder and black pitch in defiance of inevitable end.
The sky is black with smoke and orange with flame.
A black cloud behind your eyelids. Smoke – hot and acrid and furious.
Smoke, ash, pitch, blood. All things one would naturally expect to see in the circumstances, but given the entire conflict is symbolic… might we read it as the conflict of one authority against another creating some rejection of authority in those who suffer through it?

Unfortunately, I currently have zero time to play Fallen London. Any chance I’ll be able to read up on this event in-game later on, or will the wiki be my only option?
Also, do we know whether this was a one-timer or will it return like other events?

We don’t know for sure, but it feels similar to the other events in structure, so I’d guess it’s likely to be back at some point.

FBG hasn’t officially stated this event will recur, but it sure looks like a Living World Event.
What sort of reading-up did you have in mind? Truncated game text is on the wiki, and I’m sure some folks have more complete text journaled. I’ll probably also write up a small guide in the Living World Events page sometime in the next week. Were you thinking something more like the Estival retrospectives?
Lore discussion is still ongoing. London is hard-confirmed to play for Red at the chessboard. I’m trying to puzzle out if the legend of Saint George should also be viewed as referring to a historical, red-aligned figure. I’m sure God’s Editors are hard at work.

Well, this was both fun and illuminating!
A nice list of the references to Black, thank you for pointing that out - showcased like this, it certainly doesn’t look random.
The style and association of the Black traces very much make sense, particularly the blackened pit and the clouds, very much in line with the resentment and vengeance themes which are central to Black (counter)ideology.
And it also makes sense that there’s no unified Black front as opposed to the Red one, considering the fractious nature and the absence of a single major (active and recognized to a reasonable extent) Black-leaning figure to pledge allegiance to.
While both would certainly qualify, neither December nor the Black of Discordance fame are by definition existentially capable of directly interacting with the vast majority of people. I do hope, however, that at least some future Firmament content might feature yet more Liberation, Calendar and Discordance lore for the Black-aligned of us to enjoy! Or at least the significant absence thereof, as the case with Discordance and Castle Black may be.

The text ending the event strongly implied it would reoccur (it presented the dragon as one of the city’s reoccurring nightmares essentially) so hopefully you’ll get to experience it for yourself soon!
