'CITY BESET BY DRACONIC DREAMS': A New Event!

‘This dream of London is aflame. The fire spreads like plague, like terror, a bright contagion that turns timbers into light and char. Burning, burning, burning, to a coal of mortal fear.’

The nightmares came all at once, to all of the Fifth City’s sleepers: a winged shadow above a veil of smoke. No-one will sleep soundly while your nights are thus plagued.

Help from London in the opportunity card ‘A Dream of Scales and Scorching’, or, if you have access to a Parabolan Base-Camp, take matters into your own hands in ‘Track the Animals of Parabola’. The event will run until the nightmares are repelled.

Facing it in Parabola just got me:
1 Antique Mystery
1 Storm-Threnody
1 Aeolian Scream
1 Apostate’s Psalm.
And a parabolan trophy.

Is the Dream card one time only for those who have a Parabolan Base-Camp? I’ve flipped quite a few cards and no appearance beyond the first, high-urgency draw.

Also, it seems that the Mind of London has finally caught up to the Firmanent dream/dreamer shenanigans. Not ominous at all! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
:high_voltage:  :high_voltage:

Dreams in Fallen London are usually named after allusions to poetry. Can anyone place this one? The archaic spelling of “Dreadfull” stood out to me, but that’s surprisingly hard to chase down.

‘This Dreadfull Beast’ seems to be right ouf of Spenser’s ‘The Faerie Queene’.

Vpon this dreadfull Beast with seuenfold head
He set the false Duessa, for more aw and dread.

I hope we can get a personal dragon transport or companion or something out of this. Also, taking dream hunting out of it, what are the London based options? I’ll probably stick to hunting since I have the bone harpoon and all, but I like to check everything.

Than you! That was one work that came up in my searches but not that specific line.

This is corroborated by the use (and particular spelling) of “Redcrosse.”

[edit] Ah, well, there you go.

No, I’ve had it a second time. It’s I believe abundant frequency, but we all know how the RNG laughs at expected “frequencies”.

Any vanity to be achieved by reaching a threshold of participation?

My alt’s advanced skills are too low, more actions required for success, higher menaces, not really worth dabbling too much.

I got the card immediately. If only the Lady in Lilac had popped out so eagerly during FotER.

I think the optimal approach to fight the Dragon in Parabola is actually to use the knight in shining armor from Mr Chimes Lost & Found.

That’s just… really funny, actually. This might even be the first time I’m using him. I’ve had him for years at this point and HIS DAY HAS FINALLY COME. Hope you’re ready to be a knight and go do some serious knight stuff buddy because it’s Go Time.

One of the options on the card produces a little haul of well-placed pawns.

Is it just me, or is engaging in the Dream from London rather more lucrative than the Parabolan hunt?

That said, it’s a nice and flavourful new activity, and a motivation to rack up my Parabolan trophy count a bit…

According to the wiki (which is currently running very slowly, you can guess why), the card is High Urgency, but playing it gives you Embroiled in Mass Nightmare, which keep you from getting it again.
It doesn’t list a way to lower Embroiled in Mass Nightmare.

Considering the action for hunting it down in Parabola says
The more that dreamers in London fight against the dream, the more effective your efforts here will be.
I would imagine that as the event goes on, hunting it down in Parabola either becomes easier, or more rewarding, or perhaps both.

…playing it gives you Embroiled in Mass Nightmare, which keep you from getting it again

I got it twice within 10 cards, so that can’t be right. (I don’t have the card in front of me, but I thought the quality cleared when you wake up.)

Parabolan hunt is only good if your stats and skills (Glasswork, MA) are high enough. Minimal Nightmares accumulated, minimal actions to finish the hunt.

Dream from London requires the card appear… which depends on the fickle RNG gods. It’s great for hoarding the low value useful items.

I still have the Embroiled quality after waking up, so it isn’t always cleared automatically after the dream. In fact, Embroiled is needed to unlock the Parabolan hunt.

Maybe it’s only cleared for those who don’t have access to Parabola yet, to allow them to continue to participate in the event from London?

Edit: I realized that there’s another possibility. Maybe there are two copies of the card: one with High Urgency unlocked when you don’t have Embroiled to start the event, and another with regular frequency unlocked with Embroiled for subsequent dreams.

So far, the text at the end of the hunt has changed a bit, but that’s it, it’s still the same otherwise.
