I highly reccomend that you start farming stuff to buy snow as soon as possible.
Speaking of farming to buy snow, what is a good way to gring up connected: urchins?
The only way without using cards or carnival/connection item that I know is to go to the "fun with the fisherking"
and do the easy persuasive challenge
other than that, carnival and the rookery password :P. edited by The Master on 12/15/2015
So I followed the guide… dipped a soul twice on the lacre. Did the Semiotic Monocle thingy, and then basically lost all my ToL. To make it worse, I tried getting some back with my Tears of the Bazaar but it only showed a phrase or two about the lacre.
Basically, I lost all ToL, and one of my prized vials, and I feel extremely miserable.
Thanks FL. =V
ToL is the phrases about lacre. It doesn’t visibly increase, and it increments in levels, not CP. the only way you’d know without the profile is to memorize which phrase corresponds to what, and that doesn’t work with levels above 15 (not that you should be getting levels above 15, but the point stands.)
I lost one of my vials of tears myself- though i knew that was the risk, and i got it back with ToL 7. still, i’m melancholy about it’s loss.

I’ve been doing their conflict card with the duchess, since i need to remove my duchess connections, and minimize ToL between nadir visits.
All three conflict cards, as well as fisherking fun, are good sources of urchin connections.
in the meanwhile, i’m trying to drive off my rubbery aquaintances, but it’s not going quickly. apparently, killing them doesn’t kill the connection, just cuts it by ~100 cp. it’ll be a while before they’re gone from the deck.
‘Pails of So-Called Snow’ are Items - they show up in your inventory, under “Curiosity”.
‘Putting the Pieces Together: The Taste of Lacre’ is a Quality. You can check out your value by going to the “Myself” tab, expand the “Story” category and search for “Lacre”.

Having just worked on that myself, cash Rubbery Men out via Call for Favours in the Forbidden Quarter. You’ll also want to trade away or use your warm Amber.

well, no, not really. someday i’ll want to cash it all in again. until then, i’ll use it to crush the connection faster, and get some more of it. it’s the conflict cards that are a real nuisance- no one likes the rubberies.
other than endlessly flipping cards, any suggestions on how to maximize the chance for an urchin card? i’ve saved up to buy snow from them, but i have yet to see the little buggers.
@KShep: when your TtH next comes, you will be “Snowbound” and have to have the walk in front of your lodgings shovelled. The Fate option will appear then, to have a Master shovel the “snow” for you. You will get the robe, but no lacre.
Go somewhere with no other cards. Cut any connections you don’t really need to less than 5. Rubbery men, in particular, is worth killing. Sell any pets that don’t offer useful cards, or sufficiently useful cards- such as sulky bats. Sell any items that offer cards- discard or upcraft to less than 100 proscribed material.
Yes, I’m normally camped out at the Forgotten Quarter since I want to draw the Urchins card and the Give a Gift! one too.
Thankfully, I started the grind once Hallowmas ended, and have a nice stack of Night Whispers and Storm Threnodies (plus a few Last Hope of the Fidgeting Writer waiting in the eaves). I’m also blessed to be a bit silly in ensuring that all my connections are 50 and above, so I think I still have a chance. Now it’s off to Court to grind SoTC.

Depending on your circumstances and level of obsessiveness, it might also be worth culling incendiary gossip (if you’re a member of a club), cash in and avoid acquiring favours: criminals (to get rid of the implausible penance card), and borrowing moon-pearls from the sardonic music-hall singer (zeroing your acquaintance with her, and replacing her 2 useful cards with 1 useless one. I actually did this by abandoning her in the Elder Continent, but that might be a bit excessive…)
Personally, I’m also tempted to use this as an opportunity to leave The Young Stags and, once the Sacksmas season is over, give The Parthenaeum a try. edited by uli on 12/16/2015
One thing I’m curious about is wether or not the Noman is worth getting (at the inital price) for the Elemental Secret alone. It would only take about 60 actions to get Noman Knows up to 15 and many could be paid for out of incidental quirk gain.
60 actions for Noman Knows
1 to buy
1 to bid farewell
≈ 80 for the Pail (with room for bad luck on the fidgeting writer)
It seems like a deal unless I’m missing something. The only thing that seems uncertain is getting the Noman’s Progress card frequently enough. It is 5x frequency though.
It might be worth it at the initial price, but with buckets costing 150 echoes of items to purchase I highly doubt it would be unusually profitable. Even if the EPA turns out to be notably high, you’d have to buy the Noman on the very first day and could probably only do the cycle once. edited by Optimatum on 12/17/2015
arrrrrg! clearly i had to much greyfields first sporing, because i stupidly tried to use the monocle when i was already at ToL 6… thus wasting my bucket. sigh. Anyone else out there have a head thumping moment yet this sackmas?
Bit random, but I’m buying more fate for Sackmas so kinda on-topic.
When I go to buy fate it says 66p per 4 fate, then suddenly it reloads and says 79p per 4 fate (with bulk discounts of course). Is this something to do with default payment method raising the original cost? Paypal fees maybe? As a UK buyer using GBP, are Super-rewards the better option?
