Christmas in Fallen London

Correct, ToL carries over. Pails will melt at the end of january.

Getting the noman and playing through the “regular” story is probably worth it. (To play that sequence, you’ll raise Noman’s friend by spending your quirks on his card, so if you want to keep all your quirks then skip this. Or if you don’t draw cards much and don’t expect to finish the story before he melts in a few weeks.).

You can also start collecting all the random lodgings if you’re a collect-one-of-everything kind of player.

In the Nadir on one of the cards you can get Tears of the Bazaar for 7 ToL. It’s a standard frequency card (a casket marked with a black ribbon) so you might go a few Nadir trips without seeing it.

FINALLY got the calendrical confusion card.

Seeing how scarce it has been, I checked the wiki to see what the options were, and found out that anyone who missed the home comfort wine from the announcement can still get it from this card.

Thanks for the help, amalgamate. Kind of annoying that i have 6 ToL so the Nadir option won’t work. I think I’ll do the melty noman with my alt.
Is there someway to get another pail? I keep seeing that urchins might sell it, but not in the Flit and not the one on my roof.

The Urchins sell pails from their Faction card. Statistically, they ought to be as common (or not) as the Calendrical Confusion card, but you can also force-draw them by using your free weekly Favourable Circumstances.

You can also lower ToL by one point in the Wicket by &quottaking the airs,&quot which will let you use your Monocle to raise it up further.
To corroborate, I spent 18 buckets on mine when I got the tattoo, which was excessive (it had 160 health left after 3 weekly hits of -61, -106, -97), but even were they all necessary and if I’d bought them all from Urchins that’s just 2700 echoes of fairly accessible items. Which is a fair amount for a vanity quality, of course, but an end-game player could get the Nightwhispers from Tigers and Storm-Threnodies from Underclay in 3 fairly relaxed weeks if they wanted to, quicker if they were especially dedicated!

Assuming, of course, the melt values don’t get worse again, but I can’t imagine them doing so; enough people have gotten tattoos that there isn’t much exclusivity to &quotprotect&quot, which I think was the original argument.
I got the tattoo the second year it was available (after Nightbrite had first, uh… &quotencouraged&quot the FL team to reveal or create the quality by keeping her Noman alive for like 4 months) so none of Elderfleur’s listed options were active and even then it was still no problem.

You kids get off of my lawn!

I keep postponing my gant tattoo acquisition since I always seem to get distracted with other stuff, liquidating my night-whispers and forgetting to play the urchin card for snow, but I’ve got 21 ToL now that I mean to carry over to next year plus I’ve already built up some stock in wild words plus bazaar tears in case of emergency, so I think next year is when I’ll finally do it.
I’ve drawn the Calendrical Card a third time and it’s worth noting that either the Revolutionary range is wider than previously recorded, or has regrettably (but justifiably) been lowered. I just got 15 Scraps of Gossip, which is still wild but at least brings the Society option into a competitive place.
I’ve done it around half a dozen times now and I still don’t think I’ve ever gotten any less than 20 out of it. I could just be lucky, but my overall RNG track record certainly doesn’t support it.

Edit: ah, the wiki lads have it all figured out. Depends on your base watchful, apparently.

There was a point of ambiguity where it could have been either &quotfloor of (Base Watchful / 11)&quot or &quot1 + (Base Watchful / 12)&quot, but the parallel of the Calendrical Council and a divisor of 12 was too beautiful to ignore, and thankfully it’s continued to work for every value so far.

Great find, great find!

And while we were happy enjoying our 20 Scraps of Endgame Gossips, Failbetter seems to have cut it down - my latest cards now just gave me 14 (maxed stats).
And while we were happy enjoying our 20 Scraps of Endgame Gossips, Failbetter seems to have cut it down - my latest cards now just gave me 14 (maxed stats).
Yep, at max stats the Wine and Revolutionary options now pay ~7 Echoes (the Wine is still quite variable: you might get 5 echoes, you might get 11!). So if you’ve got Glim and want Wine, it’s an even more exciting deal, and honestly the Revolutionary option is still very good.

Yeah, it was good while it lasted but I’m not too broken up about this, I’ve been expecting the nerf all along. Buffs to the other options are a welcome bonus.

I’d like to warn any Noman Procrastinators that the next 30 hours might be the last time this year that you can afford a Noman. The Taste of Lacre requirement has been rising at 0.8 per day and while it MIGHT stop before it rises beyond the reaches of Boars, it also might not! If you’ve planned ahead the Days of Sacksmas visitors can get you past Taste of Lacre 16, but if you haven’t planned ahead then 16’s all you can get until next year. So, wait any longer at your peril!
I’d like to warn any Noman Procrastinators that the next 30 hours might be the last time this year that you can afford a Noman. The Taste of Lacre requirement has been rising at 0.8 per day…
Was this the value since the Wicket opened?
Was this the value since the Wicket opened?
It’s so far been consistent! It’s slightly offset, but otherwise &quot0.8 × (the day of January) - 0.25&quot predicts today’s Lacre cost, which can also be phrased as &quotit increases for 4 days, stays the same for 1; repeat; repeat; repeat…&quot It might hit a ceiling at some point, or it might not; I know there are some users who expected it to stop at 15 like previous years who are unhappy that it’s now unboarably expensive. Otherwise, today was our &quotstay the same day&quot so the next five days should see it increase to 18, 19, 20, 21, then 21 again. Which is still achievable, but only with Days of Sacksmas shenanigans.

ISWYDT. Groan.

I think I figured out why people wait. My alt bought it on day one, and the melt rate is a concern. Might barely make it to Feb if I’m lucky, but the pails of &quotsnow&quot were not as helpful as I’d hoped.

It might be too late for you now, but Examining 2 Pails with a Monocle and then Helping the Noman with Taste of Lacre affords 18 Noman’s Friend, as opposed to only 10 if you just pour 2 Pails on directly. This does assume 10+ Scholar of the Correspondence (or some good luck), unfortunately.

But, I think even a doomed Noman is an interesting experience.

Thanks, but it’s not how I’m playing.

My main has the monocle and SotC, but no pails. (Bought an important lodging upgrade and a retreat, saving the rest for next year.)

My alt has the noman, but no monocle and SotC too low. Remaining ToL just might keep it until Feb, if the next melt isn’t too severe, but probably won’t. That so-called ubiquitous card isn’t.

A Noman may still be yours if you have enough pails, patience, and a Dreadful Surmise!

Just a heads up to everyone: Unusual Pails of Snow will start melting from the 29th as Time, the Healer arrives.

A bit late, but thanks Elderfleur for posting these updates. I must confess that I was quite sad and bitter after discovering that the ToL requirements for creating a Noman had risen beyond 1. the cap from previous years (15), 2. any means to be reached at the time (17+). I was trying to figure out the best way to get rid of my Pails when I read your message, and now I have a healthy Noman!

Have a good Feast of the Rose :)
