Zero Summer Discussion Thread

I am not trying to invite destruction and misery onto myself (well, maybe a little) but my Mark of the Beast hasn’t done much yet. Is it supposed to do something other than make me look appropriately intimidating?

@Sarah: it’s supposed to be torturing you. Intermittently. Can you check to see whether your account is set to receive messages from SN worlds?

Ah, there was a bug. You lucked out: it ticks up your White Noise at intervals… or: everyone but yours. :)

Heh, thanks, I guess! I wanted to see what it said at least once before I ruined this poor guy’s life forever.

I can PM you the living story text, if you like. :)

Thanks for type/grammar hunting! I really appreciate it. Also, I’m really glad that you found it interesting. It was a blast to write, and keep an eye out for opportunities that the pelt of The Creature might open for you![/quote]

I will. I have 5 blasted Pelts of the Creature by now, and I’m hoping they will either be valuable or lead to an interesting Storylet line.

Sounds good, and I’ll tell you what I picked.

ETA: I’m not actually sure if it worked. I picked something, got a notice that “your soul bears the mark of the beast” and the Jackal Caller is still there with all the same options, including one I don’t think you should be able to do twice.

Good day again…
It seems I have ran into a bug again… Maybe this is mentioned already somewhere in this long-long thread, but… Anyway, the Petty Cash to Revolver Bullets option in Pony Express gives not 10 bullets but 10 dollars… Thought I clicked somewhere wrong the first time, so did it again… and to be sure, tried third time also. In all cases I received $10 instead of bullets…

(I’m not sure if it’s locked or not accessible yet.) I’ve collected my 3 time to move ons, but I can’t for the life of me find the Key to Dreams… Am I missing something? I’ve exhausted my qualities to the point where the regular opportunity cards are useless.

The Key of Dreams quality is a lock that cannot be unlocked by regular players. The requirement will be removed when the next part is ready to be played.

Okay, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

@Matticus: Sara Hysaro has it right on the nose. You haven’t missed anything. Although I strongly encourage you to play some Jobs and build up Reputation! And of course follow us on Facebook – it’s the best place to get up-to-date info on what’s going on with Zero Summer.

@Alar: just a little buglet. Will squash. Thanks!

@Sarah: I’ll PM you the text in a moment. That’s actually just your last bug carrying over. I’ll fix manually. Thanks!

We’re considering scaling down the impact of Menaces post-Day 1. Things we’re considering include:

  • Doubling the Menace reductions on all cards in all Menace states (effectively cutting their action costs and Style reductions in half);

  • Halving the cost of reduce-my-Menace items;

  • Making Antagonists easier to dodge.

Please let us know your thoughts. Thanks!

I haven’t had too much trouble with Menaces. I’ve only been in one Menace state (the Free Clinic) and am handling my Antagonists fairly well. Of course, my Doc hasn’t been rising as quickly as I might like it.

Ooh, I’d like more antagonist avoidance options- or at least have the antagonist cards less frenquently? It seems fair to me to gain menaces when failing a challenge, but I’m finding the antagonist cards more frustrating, even with the dog whistle. (Haven’t found a way to avoid t’other one.) Also -if you’re interested, I’d prefer that the whistle be a luck challenge, or have multiple uses before it runs out. Having to get a new whistle every time is annoying- I think because I have to use two cards and don’t even gain anything, just avoid loss. (Why does Brownson have all these crappy whistles, anyway, and couldn’t he just give me a bunch at once? :p )

I’m okay with the menaces at the moment- although I’ve only been Behind the Noise, so far.

Thanks for the input, folks. We’re still considering what to do. Making Antagonists more interesting is probably a part of it. :)

Just so everybody is aware: we’re doing a Mystery Giveaway on Facebook! If we get just 7 more Likes on our most recent status, everyone on our Facebook page will get an access code for something they’re sure to like.

Do stop in if you haven’t already!

Question: is the forum still the best place to report typos? Only as it’s the only discussion space so far I don’t want to spoil people.

Actually, what is the spoiler policy around here? Because I want to talk about things but I don’t want to spoil people, especially for the side quest they may not have taken.
