From Birb Nest.

You can also get it by selling Jurassic thighbones to the "enthusiast of the ancient world" at the bone market, you need more than 3 respectable for him to show up in the cards there.
Jurassic thigh bones are obtained, as far as i know, via the laboratory experiment with the unidentified thigh bone which takes 25 laboratory research and succeeding a Monstrous anatomy test.
All this gets you 30 ingots, no idea how efficient it is but the option exists.
From Birb Nest.[/quote]Oh, there’s another option? Which bird exactly?

I too require this important birb information.
Storm-Bird in Parabola. It’s a rare success from raiding its Cloud instead of the Bird.

Could anyone compile a quicklist of Bone Market requirements and deals? At least the parts someone personally knows.
Is there some drastic difference in the rare/alternate success chance between the shifty student and meticulous student when it comes to shepherding them through research? I’m trying to be efficient and use the watchful option on the card while it’s available for the first two levels to raise student proficiency before using the training storylet that costs 25 research. For the shifty student it seems like I got it roughly 50% of the time. Now that I can finally get the meticulous student I’ve tried it like 10 times now and she just won’t LEARN! Is the RNG just screwing with me?
I wasn’t expecting the meticulous student to be such a downgrade. Yeah, she produces a miniscule amount more research on that option than the shifty student, but it’s still far less than what I could be producing with pretty much any other option.
I expanded my laboratory with Fate, to 4 places. Until now, I have the Spider scholar, the Numismatrix and Lettice. I do not want to get the Artist or the Urchin for the fourth position, but are there any other options available (for those of us with the Heart’s Desire ambition)? And what about the Parabolan lab - if you don’t have the Anchoress or the Rose Countess, who else can you get?
I actually got some Bessemer steel from the bone market. Sell a Femur of a Jurassic Beast to an Enthusiast of the Ancient World, draw with Respectable at least 3.
Bone acquired from passing the anatomy check when determining the true nature of the thigh bone.
In my experience the first two points are roughly equally fast between all the students. I think you’re just having bad luck, I’ve never failed that option more than three times in a row.
The main difference appears to be in the collaborate option for the last points of training. The gifted student (and presumably prodigious student) levels up to 5 consistently with only a few failures without spending any research. The meticulous and profound students are much slower to get those last few points. Spending some research to get to gifted student faster is worth it imo.
Is the meticulous student training option still taking 50 research while it’s labeled as requiring 25?
Edit: apparently yes. If you’re a correspondent you have an option on "direct your own research" that’s available only at 0 research which gives over 25, so you can do the training instantly which will take it back to 0. This way it’s only 2 actions per point. I used this to get to gifted students asap.

Finally got that second rare success with the meticulous student. Then proceeded to the training storylet that costs 25 research and 1 memory of distant shores, whereupon I encountered what I’m pretty sure is a bug that where she took a whole 50 research but still only went up 1 level.
I do not like this girl.
How do you use fate to expand? I only see the options to expand with resources and i would really rather just use fate.
I am not grinding for those materials right now, that kind of patience has left me.

They are referring to using Fate for the extra space so you can hire 4 assistants, not the equipment upgrades.
There is one lab equipment upgrade for Fate but it’s only available as the final upgrade. There is no way to skip the first 7 stages. This is endgame content that will take a while to get through unless you have been accumulating resources for years already.
10 Fate allowed me to have one extra slot for a researcher. It is located in the “Adjust the Staffing in your Lab”. I still had to expand the lab with normal resources.
Funnily, the slot sits empty as I am not offered any researcher options other than the Urchin and Artist.
That’s all the experts we have for now. You can fill the last slot with a student if you want, they’re good sources of regular research after you’ve trained them. As for ambition, both April from Bag a Legend and the Esurient Smith from Nemesis are only permanently* obtainable as assistant after finishing the respective ambitions, so I expect Light Fingers and Heart’s Desire will follow naturally once they reach their conclusion. Dr Vaughan looks like a good candidate for a lab assistant from Light Fingers.
*) Semi-permanently in case of April; it seems possible to lose her, but you can hire her once then never dismiss her ever.
I think what you see is all there is for your Base-Camp defenses, it hasn’t changed at all since its early implementation for Bag a Legend. If you don’t have either, you must pay the 11 Rookery Passwords or 11 Pulsating Amber cost.

You need Students. Do the project that’s a favor for the Dean, something about Paleontology.

Yeah i must have been confusing you with how i worded it then, i’m not looking to use fate for the lab upgrades i want to use fate to get the extra assistant slots they mentioned and i don’t see where that option is located. Because the only options i see right now to get those slots are with resources i don’t care to spend just to get these slots.
I think you have to spend regular resources to expand your lab to 3, and then there’s a Fate option to expand to 4. Fate doesn’t let you skip steps, it only unlocks an extra step afterwards.
Yes, exactly.

Right, explains that then.
